Rick Stroud breaks down Day 5 of Bucs Training Camp as the defense continues to shine and outperform the offense including a pick-six by rookie safety Mike Edwards which was followed by a choreographed celebration of riding a roller coaster. Edwards has been the best player on the defensive unit thus far and he looks like a great pick in the 3rd round for the Buccaneers. Also the Lightning sign Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy to an 8-year $76 million dollar deal making him the 3rd highest paid goalie in the NHL but Brayden Point still hasn't been signed, and should the Rays go all in this year at the trade deadline or will they be relatively quiet as they start a big series in Boston vs. the Red Sox. Bucs Beat Writer Rick Stroud gives his thoughts on the first 3 days of Bucs Training Camp including how the defense has dominated the offense so far, Ronald Jones still needs to step up among the running backs, and the kicking competition between Cairo Santos and Matt Gay has been impressive. The Rays took 2 of 3 in Toronto but lost Saturday after leading by 7 runs and then won on Sunday after trailing by 7 runs to cap off a crazy weekend. Plus the Rays made 3 small trades on Sunday getting infielder Eric Sogard from the Blue Jays, a prospect from the Indians and a player to be named later.
