Cannabis Law Series - Kate Cholewa Perspectives on Montana's Evolving Marijuana Law and Market Jul 31, 2025
    Show notes

We are back at it, Villagers, bringing you the tea on cannabis law! This episodes features Kate Cholewa, a cannabis lobbyist for decades in the state of Montana. The Montana history differs quite a bit from the Illinois history and is truncated into this one episode. You may have listened and learned much from Eric Berlin's episodes but you will find new perspectives in this episode from Kate. She is the person who provided me my first lessons on the medicinal values of cannabis and that is not a big surprise as (spoiler alert!) she is my sister!

So buckle up for the evolving marijuana law and markets in Montana!

Cannabis Law Series, Episode 4 Eric Berlin discussing Federal and Interstate Aspects of Cannabis Jun 09, 2025
    Show notes

We are still in the weeds here at Spilling the Village Tea as we welcome you back to episode 4 of the Illinois cannabis law series and pouring yet another cup with Eric Berlin of Denton’s where he is the leader on the US and Global Cannabis team. Eric is gonna start crossing some state lines a bit as we expand into discussions on interstate commerce, the Cole Memo, drug rescheduling, emerging cannabis markets beyond medical marijuana and differences of sales between medical and adult use, and even reparative justice and social equity licensing. Strap yourself in because we are picking up just where we left off discussing the changing cap on dispensaries as part of that emerging cannabis market I referred to…..

Sorry no local music for you this time around! We will get back to that soon!

Cannabis Law Series, Episode 3 Eric Berlin discussing State Mandates and Banking Challenges, Special appearance with Mayor Bob Barnett May 23, 2025
    Show notes

We are continuing the deep dive into Illinois Cannabis Lawwith Eric Berlin, US and Global Team leader on Cannabis for the world’s largest law firm, Dentons. I am still slicing up this giant tray of brownies into easily consumable portions, or at least doing my best to try to do so. Eric has taken us through his personal and professional journey on the path to legalizing medical cannabis in episode 1 and episode 2 describes the hurdles businesses face in the marijuana industry with details on the links in this supply chain including details on products for better understanding. So if youhaven’t listened to those episodes, you really should! It will enhance what you hear in episode 3. But if you don’t have that kind of time, no worries. Still a ton of content but weare going deeper into the…..weeds. Get it? Eric Berlin gets into the particulars communities face with state laws and then how those communities choose to manage within the state mandates.

To truly grasp this, Mayor Bob Barnett of Downers Grove Illinois, hometown of this podcast, joined me for about 25 minutes to discuss how this village assessed and determined path forward with the stages of legalized marijuana in this community and we spliced that in here for you.

Then we return to Eric going deep into the challenges of the banking industry when doing business with the cannabis industry!
