#279 Toby Deals Harshly With a Heckler from Stage May 16, 2017

Show notes

While Matt and Toby are on the road to perform new music from the upcoming Matt and Toby album, they have been rethinking what qualifies as appropriate interaction with females. Reva, an employee and friend of BadChristian, shares the tour bus with six other guys and it's surfaced a lot of interesting thoughts and reflection. For example, can it be disrespectful to make such an effort to be respectful of "THE GIRL that's present?" At one of the shows, Toby goes on a verbal tirade towards a young lady that heckles him during the Matt and Toby set. Lastly, Matt doesn't take showers and Joey ends this podcast with the saddest bomb of a low note one could ever imagine.

#276 Mega Churches: Is Their Expiration Date Approaching Soon? May 05, 2017

Show notes

Steven Furtick and Elevation Church is at it again, raising some eye brows with something fishy. Maybe it's nothing but just in general, why are celebrities and politicians fair game for scrutiny amongst Christians but Pastors are off limits? Lastly, is the BadChristian Podcast and similar forms of media/entertainment becoming more legitimized as sources of information in the church? Because a Christian journalism outfit took information from Matt's podcast (Break it Down) and didn't even name him as a source! Maybe he deserves this though, considering on this episode he teaches us all how to steal from airlines during check-in.

#274 Mike Herrera of MxPx and MxPx Beer Apr 27, 2017

Show notes

Mike Herrera of MxPx joins Matt and Toby in studio while Toby is in Seattle for a Matt & Toby show. They talk about sound guys, tour managers, and getting kicked off shows for smoking. Did you know MxPx used to get frustrated on the road with Christian ska band, O.C. Supertones, for preaching so much on stage, MxPx has their own beer, and Mike wasn't confident enough in Pokinatcha (MxPx's first album) to share news of its release with his high school peers? How did that MxPx punk mascot come about and is it true that a Satanist helped with Life in General's album artwork?

#273 Getting Jesus Wrong and is "the left" the New Legalism? (w/ Matt Johnson) Apr 24, 2017

Show notes

Our friend Matt Johnson helped write Joey's book, was a part of the Tooth and Nail early days, and was an integral part of Mars Hill in Seattle. He just wrote a book, "Getting Jesus Wrong," that reflects on how far off track the church has gotten from Jesus' teachings. Matt, Toby and Matt Johnson discuss the real power that Facebook gives to chumps, how the left is similar to fundamentalism and Toby actually longs for the apocalypse. And while Joey's away, the three spend some time "Joey bashing."

#272 Come&Live! (w/ Chad Johnson) vs. BadChristian Apr 17, 2017

Show notes

Iron sharpens iron? You'll have to be the judge. Chad Johnson, an old time friend of Matt and Toby's and founder of ComeandLive.com and TakeHold Records, joins us with David Pierce, Ben Pierce (Steiger.org), all three bringing a different angle of what it means to be a Christian. Should Toby and Matt be more evangelical at Emery shows? Why did Aaron Gillespie, due to using some choice words, get the boot from speaking at a Steiger event? How vital to the gospel is the message of sanctification? Do we pick and choose what qualifies as sanctification and overlook possibly more important examples? Lastly, Joey admits to a stark example of him being a sexist in the workplace.
