    SnarkMonkey

Long-time broadcaster, sometime writer, wannabe director, occasional actor, more-than-occasional voice actor, part-time banjo tuner and former tuna canner Larry Morgan has managed to spend his entire career in radio and other media somehow not pissing people off. So after years of being told to “not talk so much” and “keep it short” he decide to Talk More and Go Longer with some of those people. Having a natural curiosity for others who are creative and how they got to where they are (obviously fueled by professional jealousy) and honing in on the events, people, films, TV shows and books that drove them to create – presented in a snarky, monkey-like way – is what this podcast is all about. Live – laugh – learn – throw a little feces with us and be an honorary Monkey as we bring the snark and go on this historic, ground-breaking audio journey. (Really, it’s not that big a deal, but it should be fun.) -Larry Morgan

Creating comedy is not all fun and games - though it is sometimes. Emmy-winner Jim Wise has been a steadily working comedy writer, performer, voice actor and even a musician on some high-profile shows like MADtv, Even Stevens, The Tonight Show, The Arsenio Hall show and many others. This is Jim's story which takes him from early days as a class cut-up through two different colleges and time at LA's famous troupe The Groundlings (where he taught a young up-and-comer named Jimmy Fallon). Learn how to be funny in sometimes unfunny surroundings and how to appreciate the subtleties of a finely crafted dick joke.

When Goonies Attack Nov 15, 2014
    Show notes

It's an all-boy MonkeyFest this week, as the guys cover new movies - both Dumb and high-brow - we get into a debate over the cinematic merits of 80s movies and even bid a don't-let-the-door-hit-you-in-your-ginormous-ass-on-the-way-out to that oily internet lady in this wide-ranging edition of the podcast.

In the cage this week; Matt Johnson, Jason E. Kelly, Chris McGahan, Mike Ambers & Monkey-In-Chief Larry Morgan

    #8 - Seth M. Sherwood Nov 12, 2014
    Show notes

You don't have to be an aficionado of the horror film genre to appreciate the tale of Seth M. Sherwood. Seth seemingly came out of nowhere to be tapped as the writer for the forthcoming prequel to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise entitled "Leatherface." Listen to how an early love for sci-fi and comics led to him pursuing a life in the visual and graphic arts, until the yearning to be a true storyteller became too great to ignore. To become a writer took years of toil, focus, and sacrifice, but all that effort seems to be paying off. Learn how a passion for Blade Runner, an appreciation for Devo and the repurposing of childhood Dungeons & Dragon skills (listen up, nerds!) have landed Seth on Hollywood's Blood List, on the radar of some high-profile filmmakers, as well as under the microscope of the genre's very vocal fandom - for better or worse. This is a chilling tale through the harrowing shadows of Tinseltown (it's not that scary, but it sounds good) with a few good splatters of snark but a little short on monkeys.

    #7 - Shira Lazar Nov 04, 2014
    Show notes

Shira Lazar has been called a Social Media Guru, an Online Queen of Media - she was once even named a Sexiest Geek by Wired magazine (which, for some, might be considered an oxymoron, but...). She is also a Canadian who invaded Hollywood by way of Boston, took a left turn at the Ellen show, a big right turn (far right) at Fox News, jumped over the bear trap of icky, gossipy entertainment reporting and found a way to use her passion, her unique set of skills, and her ability to recognize "what's the new thing" to build an online empire.

Here's another interesting, inspiring story about how to make your own way in the world by recognizing who you are, knowing your strengths, doing what you love to be fulfilled and, ultimately, not end up a "washed-up hag." (Her words...not mine. Just listen.) -LM

Shira can be seen doing her thing at whatstrending.com and you can follow her on Twitter @shiralzar & @WhatsTrending

Join host Larry Morgan and the rest of the Monkeys for some thrills and chills on this rollicking roller coaster through current pop culture.

    #6 - Gary Kroeger Oct 28, 2014
    Show notes

So you're plucked out of obscurity while doing sketch comedy in Chicago with friends like Brad Hall and Julia Louis-Dreyfus to be on Saturday Night Live as the fresh new comedy voices and save the franchise - only to then be in the shadow of strong personalities like Eddie Murphy, Martin Short and Billy Crystal - then you try to find your way through show business with that pedigree as your ticket - then you run a restaurant - then drop out and go back to the Midwest to try and lead a normal life - where you get divorced and get political...and...and...

That, and so much more, is the strange, fabulous journey of one Gary Kroeger. His story, tinged with no bitterness or negativity, is fascinating, funny and ultimately inspiring. Prescience, sword-fighting and even George Hamilton are included in this highly snarky episode - but, alas, no monkeys. -LM

    #5 - John McCook Oct 23, 2014
    Show notes

John McCook has played the patriarchal figure in the fictional Forrester family on the daytime drama "The Bold & The Beautiful" since 1987. Inspired by Peter Pan and Mary Martin, he went on to spend years doing musical theatre, some flashy shows in Las Vegas and, in the process, worked with and met some interesting names (Elvis Presley, anyone?) John knew from an early age that show business was his life, but could never have predicted the path his career would take. Hear about how talent, luck, happy accidents and a strong work ethic has resulted in a life of consistent employment. Very funny - and very candid - John McCook tells it like it is with a high snark quotient but also with an obvious affection for this business we call show. (No monkeys.) -LM

"The Bold & The Beautiful" can be seen daily on CBS-TV - get more info and watch full episodes here.

    #4 - Frank Ferrante Oct 23, 2014
    Show notes

Frank Ferrante is an accomplished stage actor and director, but through a remarkable twist of fate - based on a childhood passion - has made a career out of performing as the one-and-only Groucho Marx. What started as an attempt in college to "put on a show!" simply to get a decent grade and a degree became something much more, including getting to know and receive the blessing from the Marx family. Listen as Frank immerses himself in, then attempts to break away from, then again embraces the persona of the great Groucho, which led to Frank becoming a true throwback performer doing drama, comedy and song on stages all over the country and around the world. Plus he's a kind, gentle, warm, caring soul who deserves your attention. So...bring it, monkeys! This one's only about a 5 on the SnarkMeter, but definitely plenty of Monkey Business. (seewhatIdidthere?)

Frank continues to perform as Groucho to this day - see his touring schedule here for An Evening With Groucho - as well as his performances as the great lover Caesar in the remarkable show Teatro Zinzanni.

    #3 - Kerri Kasem Oct 21, 2014
    Show notes

Kerri Kasem has been a working media professional - in radio and television - for years, but it was the saga during her father's last few months that thrust her into a new spotlight...and also gave her a new purpose and career. Kerri talks about life growing up the daughter of one of the most famous names in entertainment - Casey Kasem - and reveals how her dad instilled in her a strong work ethic, but also kindness and the need to stand for something. Kerri is still passionate (and understandably angry) about the treatment of Casey toward the end of his life, which has inspired her to seek legislation to protect the visitation rights of adult children.

Learn more about her cause at www.kasemcaresfoundation.org - follow Kerri on Twitter @KerriKasem. (And if you'd like to relive some of the great, classic Casey AT40 countdowns, listen to them here on iHeartRadio.)
