#420 - Cheating, Lies & Corn Rakes - Earlville, Iowa Sep 02, 2023

Show notes

This week, in Earlville, Iowa, problems enter the marriage of a farm couple, leading to cheating, and many hurt feelings. Tensions simmer, under the surface, and this all ends with someone having a large corn rake stuck in their back, and the spouse claiming that it they must have suffered an awful accident. The problem is, the evidence says otherwise. Also, weird behavior, a crazy 911 call, and even crazier internet searches lead to a conviction... but will it stand??

Along the way, we find out that there isn't a lot of "rockin'" in this area, that no matter what your problems may be, the hogs still need to be fed, and that you can't accidentally fall on a corn rake, more than once!!

#419 - A Major Lack Of Aloha - Hilo, Hawaii Aug 31, 2023

This week, in Hilo, Hawaii, a young woman, who has dreamed of Hawaii her entire life, moves to the big island, with tragic results. A simple Christmas Eve bike ride, along a scenic ocean road, ends in finding one shoe, a twisted hunk of metal, and a a clump of blond hair. This all leads to a horrific discovery, followed by several years of police ineptitude. Finally, three people are convicted. But did they actually do it, or is there a monster, still wandering the streets?

Along the way, we find out that you can pull some aloha out of your pocket, that you never want to need an ambulance in Hawaii, and that three convictions don't actually mean that anyone is guilty!!

#418 - The Stranger & The Psychic - Scarborough, Maine Aug 26, 2023

This week, in Scarborough, Maine, a missing young woman sends the area into a panic, but things get even worse, when she's found. The investigation reveals some strange facts, but it comes down to being between three different suspects, her ex-boyfriend, a guy who is interested in her, and a man with gel in his hair, who she spoke with at a night club. In the end, a psychic ends up having all the answers to this mystery, while the murderer goes on the run!!

Along the way, we find out that some people can even complain about the ocean, that sometimes being very nervous can make you look like a liar, and that you apparently can't always count a psychic out!!

This week, in Hazelton, Idaho, after a marital break up everything seems fine, with both parties, moving on, an progressing in their lives. But one person is absolutely holding a grudge, and a small thing sets them off. Next thing you know, theres blood on the walls, and someone is missing. The investigation quickly uncovers an awful, dastardly plot that includes a very unlikely helper, and left someone without a head!!

Along the way, we find out that magic shows are always terrible, that you never know what horrible things someone is planning, and that where there's a will to remove a head, there's a way to remove a head!!

This week, in North Canton, Ohio, the paths of two very different people cross in a strange little trailer park. One of these people is an ex-Marine, turned hairdresser, with a long history of violence, and generally crazy behavior. The other is a self professed "Mama's Boy", who likes smoking, and paying for ladies. This all comes together, leaving someone headless, and with all their fingers cut off. The big surprise comes in finding out where the head went!

Along the way, we find out that they have Italian festivals in Ohio, that people can have diverse talents, and that covering a headless body in paint isn't exactly going to hide the crime!!

#412 - The Bloody Basement Breakfast Club - Bismarck, North Dakota Aug 05, 2023

This week, in Bismarck, North Dakota, one local basement is the all purpose hangout for a pair of teen sisters, their boyfriends, and several other local losers & runaways. They live there, drink, shoot meth, and plan crimes. After one particularly wild day of drug taking, one of the teenagers decided that he should kill his parents. No one thinks he's serious, until they the see blood soaked scene, and mutilated bodies. This leads to a hunt for the murderers, and some very long term promises from the girlfriends!!

Along the way, we find out that everybody loves macaroni & cheese, that meth is not very good for the development of the teenage mind, and that Jesus isn't going to get you out of prison!!

The brutality this all leads to can be seen coming, but it doesn't make it any less mind boggling. And the outcome may be the craziest thing of all!!

Along the way, we find out that James Hetfield probably avoids the locals, that someone's eyes shouldn't be the thing that has power over you, and that you shouldn't need 4 different murder weapons!!
