The Utah Jazz went up against the Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis looked like the MVP and helped the Bucks to an easy win.

One of the lone bright spots for the Jazz was the play of Donovan Mitchell who was hitting his mid range with relative ease. Mike Conley in his debut had an off shooting night as he and Bojan Bogdanovic went a combined 0-14. That won't happen every night so it's hard to take too much from this.

After one preseason game it is definitely time to overreact to the Jazz playing an NBL team. Besides being on track for the first undefeated NBA season, what else did we learn?

The Jazz played with more space than we’ve seen in years with legitimate shooters surrounding by strong center play. It was fun!

We also saw some surprising play from Jazz newcomers Bojan Bogdanovic and Ed Davis. We also saw an improved Royce O’neale and a surprising Miye Oni. How much more of this can we expect.

We then discuss the differences between this season’s team and last season. What have the Jazz improved on and what will they miss from last season. How much will they miss Derrick Favors and how will Ed Davis and Bojan Bogdanovic fill the void?

The Utah Jazz took care of business in their first NBA Pre Season Game. With most of the team resting including Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley it was Joe Ingles and Bojan Bogdanovic's chance to shine. And they did. But other players showed up as well including Miye Oni and Royce O'neale (who looks like he's about to get that bag)

Hard to take too much from the game but boy is it fun to have jazz basketball back!!!

The Utah Jazz season is here!

On this episode of the SLC Punks podcast we discuss Utah Jazz media day, as well as day one of training camp, and our favorite moments and quotes.

There is a lot of buzz around Ed Davis and his role on the team. Quin Snyder had nothing but praise for everything he brings. Rudy Gobert had only great things to say as well. It speaks a lot to how everyone on the Jazz seems to be happy with their projected position on the team. In years past, there were awkward fits and players trying to improve their game while also competing at a high level. This season it feels like everything is much more in order.

There’s a new nickname for Bojan Bogdanovic and Joe Ingles that was created by Mike Conley. The BoJoe Show is going to cause nightmares for opposing teams.

Multiple players mentioned championship aspirations. Will the Jazz be that good? Can they win the title? We’re about to find out!

HOOPS NERD - Donovan Mitchell and Team USA take care of Giannis and Greece Sep 07, 2019

Behind leading scorers Kemba Walker and Donovan Mitchell, team USA handled Greece with ease.

Giannis Antetokounmpo came out with a flurry of 7 points that included a pull-up three. He was matched by Donovan Mitchell who scored the first 5 points for Team USA. But Team USA was able to cool off Giannis who ended the game with only 15 points.

Whenever Antetokounmpo tried to get to the rim, team USA did a solid job of walling off the paint to keep Giannis away. Giannis would then pass off to shooters but Greece shot a dreadful 26% as a team from three and it was one of the major reasons Team USA was able to get the 16-point, 69-53 win.

It’s finally September and it feels like the offseason has lasted for months. Luckily for NBA fans they’ve been blessed with Team USA Basketball. The surprise leader of the team? Donovan Mitchell.

How long ago was it that people were wondering whether Mitchell would make the team? Now it feels like if the United States want gold it will be because Donovan Mitchell led them there.

On this episode of the SLC Punks Podcast we discuss Donovan Mitchell’s rise and his vital role for Team USA.

We discuss some of the strange takes from various media about Mitchell and the weird dismissal of what he’s doing. I guess all it took for him to change minds was for them to actually watch him. Who knew?

Then we look at some of the bad summer takes surfacing on the twittersphere and the importance of context and film when discussing numbers. We also touch on some of our biggest pet peeves about how the Jazz, and basketball in general, get covered.

Finally we talk about Rudy Gobert and his performance with France and also touch on FIBA and their suprise visit to perform drug tests. We also discuss Joe Ingles, his performance in the World Cup and what to expect from him this season for the Utah Jazz.
