Show notes

Star Wars: The High Republic is here! Mike Celestino (Laughing Place / Who's The Bossk Podcast) and Drew Kaplan (Star Wars Maven) join Sarah and Richard on a spoiler-free discussion of the first three High Republic novels. They also share highs, lows and personal highlights of 2020. GOODBYE 2020 and welcome 2021! Keep reading below to learn more about The High Republic.

Star Wars: The High Republic

The High Republic is a collection of interconnected stories for adults, teens and kids from a variety of publishers including Disney/Lucasfilm Press, Del Rey, IDW Publishing, and Marvel. The initial books and comics come from fan-favorite authors such as Claudia Gray, Justina Ireland, Daniel José Older, Cavan Scott, and Charles Soul.

These stories are set 200 years before the Skywalker Saga, when the Jedi Order and Galactic Republic are at their peak. Think of the line Ben Kenobi tells Luke in Star Wars, "For over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights have been the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy…" THIS time period is what Ben was referring to as told to us by Michael Siglain, Director of Creative Franchise at Disney–Lucasfilm Press. The High Republic is established in the Core worlds, but places like the Outer Rim are considered the frontier.

3: Mickey's Nutcracker Dec 23, 2020

Show notes

Do you remember Mickey's Nutcracker? This was a live stage show that played during the Christmas season at the Fantasyland theater stage between 1991 and 1992, and also aired on the Disney Channel at the same time. In this retelling of the "Nutcracker" Minnie throws a Christmas party in which she receives a magical nutcracker that resembles Mickey Mouse. When the clock strikes midnight on Christmas Eve the Nutcracker comes alive and takes Minnie on a journey to Candyland. This colorful show includes live performers as well as other lovable Disney characters; such as Goofy, Roger Rabbit, Tigger, Chip & Dale, and Pluto. Sisters Courtney and Kelly get the inside scoop on Mickey's Nutcracker, and being a performer at Disneyland, from their good friend Drew Hayashida. He was a performer in the show and was worked very closely with one of the characters.

But before we get to that interview, the sisters take you to the Hollywood Studios Backlot for their review of Disney Channel's new Original Movie: Upside Down Magic which is out now on Disney Channel and on DVD. To celebrate the release of Upside Down Magic on DVD they are doing their first giveaway on Instagram…….. Will you be the lucky winner???

Classic Marvel STAR WARS Comics #27: "Return of the Hunter!" Dec 10, 2020

Show notes

Classic Marvel Star Wars Comics #27 "Return of the Hunter!" is perhaps the BEST issue so far in this comic series!! Bounty hunter Valance appears, bringing with him all the melodramatic feels of his half human, half cyborg self. We were blown away by the resonating themes and action as Valance confronts Luke, goding him on with insulting name in the galaxy, "droid lover!" Luke and Threepio have some great buddy moments together too, and the three characters are pitted against each other in a final confrontation with a surprising end. Richard and Sarah discuss the comic and find FTOOM! Fast Facts (classic comic things that appear now in Star Wars books, comics and films) - including Valance appearing in a NEW and currently ongoing Marvel comics series Star Wars Bounty Hunters.

Synopsis: This time Luke is hunted by the bounty hunter, Valance (That we originally met in issue 16). Forced to live as a cyborg due to injuries sustained from an aerial torpedo, Valance's mission is to find Luke Skywalker. Not only is Luke a droid-owner, but he also apparently treats them as equals, which Valance finds repulsive.

Meanwhile, Luke has taken C-3PO with him and is mapping out the perimeter of the Galactic Empire's most recent blockade. He deftly maneuvers his ship out of the way of an oncoming Imperial cruiser and hides out on the planet of Junction and also looks for a trading post so that he can find parts needed to make repairs to R2-D2.

Luke and C-3PO arrive at a salvage yard where they are confronted by Valance and a battle is underway! Will this confrontation end in an emotional struggle? Stay tuned and find out!
