Episode 248: Profundity Yours - Part 1 Jul 26, 2023

A group of newcomers descended on a tiny east Texas town with their strange beliefs as their leader posted increasingly odd videos online claiming to be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ and also an extraterrestrial star commander of a galactic spaceship. They caught the eye of a journalist on TikTok reporting on cults, but once the group went viral, unsavory details about its leaders' past emerged. The group tried hiding its online activity, but some residents say the so-called doomsday cult has not stopped its pursuit of the small town. This week's episode is Profundity Yours - Part 1.

Show notes

Our guest today is Professor Greg Jackson, best known as the creator, host, and head writer of the US history podcast, History That Doesn't Suck. Each episode, the professor brings you the basics of what an American should, but possibly doesn't, know (or has forgotten) about history.
Full disclosure, he told us we could call him Greg, but we kept calling him Professor. There's also nothing more embarrassing than making a gaffe in front of a legit academic, so please listen as I try to lean into my mistake...

Episode 246: The Ariel School UFO Incident - Part 1 Jul 12, 2023

Dozens of school children were at play, enjoying the sunshine one September day in 1994. They saw a silver craft and were met by strange looking men who sent messages in their head. When the children told their teachers and adults what happened, they were met with both skepticism and genuine belief. Once a major news organization, an expert in UFOlogy, and an Ivy League researcher got involved, the story expanded well past the school yard.
