MODESTEP Interview- signing to Disciple, originally 4 people Oct 06, 2019
    Show notes

London-based crossover electronic/dubstep act Modestep formed in 2010, features Josh Friend and Pat Lundy. Modestep debuted in February 2011 with "Feel Good," a bursting single that reached the Top Ten of the U.K. dance chart and crossed into the Top 40 of the main pop chart. August's "Sunlight," released on Polydor, was more aggressive -- to a piercing extent -- and fared even better; it peaked in the Top 20 of the pop chart as the group was plotting the release of its debut full-length. After some delays, that album, Evolution Theory, arrived in February 2013. Most recently they moved to LA and signed with Disciple.

PARTY FAVOR Interview- working with Dillon Francis, GTA Oct 05, 2019
    Show notes

Party Favor is the pseudonym of DJ and electronic producer Dylan Ragland. Growing up in Park City, Utah, Ragland spent his younger years listening to metal and working his way through film school in California. After graduating from Chapman University, Ragland and a friend started DJing in L.A.'s local clubs, playing a mix of electro and Dutch house which naturally progressed into production.

Ragland created his Party Favor alter ego in 2013, releasing his first EP, Parkin' Lot Pimpin', on Bomb Squad. Combining the elements of Euro-house and the Southern sound of trap, Ragland managed to perfectly combine the genres, quickly establishing himself as the rising star on the EDM scene. Remixes for the likes of Showtek and Bro Safari propelled his profile even further and saw him release a few more singles on Bomb Squad before signing to Mad Decent.

Party and Destroy EP In 2014, Ragland released the single "Bap U," and after amassing a huge number of plays online, the track appeared on a U.S. national TV advert as well as in the movies Vacation and How to Be Single. By 2016, he had played DJ sets across the world and at some of the biggest dance and rock festivals, including Coachella, Tomorrowland, and Ultra. More singles appeared that year, including "Wiggle Wop," "G-String," and "Bust 'Em," and at the end of 2016, his first EP for Mad Decent, Party & Destroy, was released. Featuring guest spots from the likes of Gucci Mane, Dillon Francis, and Sean Kingston, the EP quickly hit the top spots on streaming and download services.

In April 2019, Party Favor released his debut album, Layers, on his own Area 25 label. The LP included the single "Wait a Minute" (featuring A$AP Ferg and Juicy J), as well as collaborations with GTA, Graves, KingJet, Rich the Kid, Lil Baby, and many others.

HAYDEN JAMES- best friends with ODESZA, signing with Future Classic Oct 04, 2019
    Show notes

Hayden James has been producing immense summer house jams with soulful and evocative vocals ever since he burst onto the Australian music scene in 2013. He's since captured worldwide attention and critical success with multiple Platinum-certified hits and a music collection that's amassed 97 million streams just last year alone.

His debut EP out on tastemaker label Future Classic put his name on the map, but didn’t prepare the indie label for the success Hayden would have with hit single "Something About You", which now counts over 58 million streams and a Gold certification in Australia. He followed this success with sold out shows across Australia, Europe and the US while also finding the time to co-write and produce a number of tracks for international megastar Katy Perry.

His track “NUMB,” released in October 2017, scored a Platinum certification in Australia, a #32 position on Triple J’s Hottest 100 and spawned a huge headline tour of North America. 2018 was a breakout year with hits “Better Together” featuring Running Touch and “Just Friends” featuring singer Boy Matthews, which has gone double Platinum in Australia. This was also the first year Hayden had two singles in the coveted Triple J Top 100, with "Just Friends" reaching the highest position at #15 and "Better Together" at #75.

Hayden James just released his album 'Between Us'!

DEVAULT Interview- branding, remix for Rihanna Oct 03, 2019
    Show notes

What started as a creative hobby in the calm scenes of Orange County soon became a personal quest to form something bigger than a unique venture — a modern grunge-esque landscape that takes integral instrumentation with an out of the box like sound design and casts visuals that would be reminiscent of an earlier time where rawness and vulnerability was glorified. The desire to create music and becoming an electronic artist has always been a hidden pulse in his life, whether it stemmed from his early obsessions over Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan and A$AP Rocky, or analyzing the blend of fashion, film, and music altogether. It’s no longer a search for genre, but rather an evolving sound, appreciating the trials of young adulthood at age 21 and letting him and his audience grow into something beyond a young man and his music.

The journey of Devault is fairly new, but 2017 has sped up his emergence into the scene, already becoming the hottest ticket for official redos of songs as well as garnering well over 10 million total streams on Spotify. This year alone, Devault has been tapped for official remixes with Rihanna, AlunaGeorge, and Kehlani, amassing millions of plays on all platforms and being a crucial part for Rihanna’s “Sex With Me” #1 spot on the Billboard Dance charts.

“Everything is so accessible now that it has become quite unique to get my point across outside of just my music catalogue,” he notes. “I’m able to showcase various arts to my audience beyond sound that can convey my thoughts and past emotions. The world I’m creating is vast but specific. Dark emotion and vibrant energy in perfect sequence, and as time presses forward, it will only become more narrow and focused.”

With a large demand for new material and talks of a grand live presence, Devault is showing signs of the modern new wave splash on the industry that is taking hold. His current mid-tempo electronica flare has caught ears and leaves the next chapter as exciting as the first.

One of the leading independent artists in electronic music today, GRiZ is the Detroit-born, Denver-based multifaceted artist who's funkin' up dance floors worldwide with his self-described future funk sound, which mixes electronic music with his fiery live saxophone, energetic funk, and sweeping electro-soul.

Following a full year of self-reflection and creative development, GRiZ returns with 'Ride Waves,' his new self-released album due out April 5, 2019. As his most creatively ambitious and most personal project to date, the 14-track album features collaborations with major artists like Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, Matisyahu, DRAM, and Bootsy Collins and sees the producer taking his sound toward uncharted territories in hip-hop, pop, and dance music, all while keeping the funky GRiZ sound intact. The album follows his breakout album 'Good Will Prevail' (September 2016), which debuted at #1 on the iTunes Electronic chart and charted on the Billboard 200 chart.

GRiZ's live shows, which mix improvised saxophone, guitar, and vocals and include the 15-piece GRiZ Live Band, have become massive draws around the world. AARON CARPENTER Interview- on Netflix show, bff with Cameron Dallas Sep 29, 2019
    Show notes

Growing up in Louisiana, music was Aaron Carpenter’s entire world. Raised on everything from classic country to pop-punk to the Stevie Wonder records his grandmother often spun for him, Carpenter took up drumming at age 11, later teaching himself to play piano and guitar.

Showing off his effortless charm, Carpenter’s debut single “Attitude” is an instantly catchy soul-pop confection, all shiny hooks and slinky grooves. But while the track marks his first official release, Carpenter’s charisma will come as no surprise to his nearly 4 million followers on Instagram, where he began posting covers in 2015. A year later, Carpenter headed to L.A. and immersed himself in music, and soon landed in sessions with A-list songwriters. Spending nearly every day in the studio for an entire year, Carpenter scored a deal with Capitol Records in February 2018, then moved forward with the making of his upcoming debut project.

In each new song he creates, Carpenter finds himself rediscovering the strong emotional hold that music’s always had on him. “When I hear certain pop songs from the 2000s, it immediately puts me back in the skating rink on a Friday night in junior high—just this moment of total mindless fun,” he says. “I’d love to do that for other people with my music: to take them to a place where nothing else matters in the world, and they can just have a good time.”
