    Side Work Podcast

Veteran waitresses clap back in a new weekly comedy podcast where nothing’s off the table other than the 15 percent tip we just stuffed into our apron. Hosted by Brooke Van Poppelen & Andrea Wallace, the two use their combined 30 plus years of servitude, extensive careers in comedy (while waiting tables), and disdain for entitled Yelp culture to dish about the career that everyone should experience to be a decent human being. Side Work Podcast combines current events, trends in the service industry and food, with hilarious server submitted stories from around the world. Godspeed and Good Tips!

Ep. 63 "You Have To Crawl Before You Walk with Sunah Bilsted" Feb 28, 2020
    Show notes

Has a contagion caused a zombie apocalypse? Nope, it's just a charter bus dropping off forty drunk adult babies at your bar for stop twelve on their crawl. Hide the sharp things, lock the bathroom, serve some weak shots and get them OUT OF THERE. Yup. Today we talk about one of the hazards of our industry: Bar Crawls. Joining us for the misery is fellow funny lady and expert bartender, Sunah Bilsted who has SEEN some stuff during her time slingin drinks.

Ep. 61 "Acts of Aggression, Valentine's Gay, and MK Paulsen" Feb 14, 2020
    Show notes

THE APOCALYPSE IS UPON US. Okay, okay, okay it's just Valentine's Day 2020 and here we are still alive, maybe a bit more weary, maybe dreading working on this day/night of horror but Side Work is here FOR YOU. We of course want to pour some out for our server homies who have to go to war with a sea of amateur two tops tonight but then we explore all of the other disgusting ways this nefarious holiday has ruined other industries. Flowers and chocolate are evil. First time couples massage recipients don't tip. The list goes on and on. Thankfully with your Server Submitted Stories and hilarious guest co-host MK Paulsen - "a gay" - in his own words, we hope to inject some needed laughter into this notoriously terrible service day. God Speed and Good Tips! We LOVE you.

Rat chat! Paper eating! What f*ckin' cake?!?! It's a new episode of Side Work! Today we have comedian and writer Maggie Maye join us mainly to shut down our dreams of talking about "southern hospitality" when she immediately corrects us that Texas (where she's from) is not the South. We do our best to discuss food, vibes, and service industry skills anyhow and have a ton of fun. Your Server Submitted Stories are top shelf as always, so keep submitting!

To talk about this nuanced position is Qualin Harris, aka Confessions of a Server who joins us to riff about work hustle in Toledo, OH. As always the Server Submitted Stories are next level so keep 'em comin'!

Ep. 55 "Marrying Ketchup and Al Samuels" Jan 04, 2020
    Show notes

We decided it was time to finally discuss the topic that inspired the name of our podcast: SIDE WORK! Good friend and comic genius Al Samuels joins us to discuss the nuances of detail work that either soothes or enrages, depending on the type of server you are. Bottom line, every server and bartender's workload involves A LOT of polishing, slicing, soaking, digging, scraping, wiping, folding, carrying, stocking, and many additional mind-numbing activities to do the job correctly. And there's a special place in hell for the co-worker who doesn't do their side work.
