She Lives Freed with Brittany Dawn Nelson

Welcome to She Lives Freed! A space for the woman who’s done playing small and refuses to settle for surface-level faith. Hosted by Brittany Dawn Nelson, this podcast dives headfirst into the deep through testimonies that bring tears, conversations culture won’t touch, and encouragement for every season of your walk with Jesus.

Whether you’re navigating motherhood or marriage, identity or infertility, spiritual warfare or feel spiritually stagnant… you’ll find truth, laughter, and raw reminders that freedom is your portion. That you weren’t made to blend in: you were born to live freed with Jesus.

Here, we talk about what it looks like to pick up your cross and follow Jesus — the imperfect moments, honest struggles, and the beauty of being truly Spirit-led. This podcast is about learning how to walk with Jesus faithfully every day: even when it’s costly, slow, or unseen. You have a seat at our table.

    My Testimony Jul 18, 2023
    Show notes

I’m just a washed up fitness girl transformed by the grace of God. As we move into part four of this series, I'll be sharing my testimony for the very first time. I've briefly shared the cliffnotes version of my testimony at speaking events, but I've never shared it in full with my community on my social media platforms.

If you find anything in this episode that resonates with you and the things that you've faced, I pray that my story will lead you to Christ. He is the answer. He is the way, the truth, and the life. My husband Jordan is by my side for support today, and I’m so grateful for that as always.

Here are a few reasons to listen to the entire episode with my husband, Jordan:

    • How the enemy has been trying to take me out since childhood
    • Sexual sin, pornography, and the many strongholds in my life
    • The waves and seasons of depression
    • Reaching the end of myself
    • My radical encounter with Jesus

If you don't know how to walk this walk out, or if you want to know Jesus and don't know where to start, please message me over on the Chiseled and Called Podcast Instagram! I’d love to chat with you, encourage you, and be a sister in Christ to you.

Speaking Out: All The Times I've Been Canceled, Part 2 Jul 04, 2023
    Show notes

**Trigger Warning** We discuss the truth behind what happened with our dog, Brodie, in this episode… so you may get emotional if stories about animals dying are something you struggle with.

In the last episode, Speaking Out: All The Times I've Been Canceled, Part 1, we left off on a cliffhanger. If you haven't listened to that episode yet, I recommend you do so before tuning in to this episode as we pick up where we left off.

During episode 15, my favorite guest turned co-host, Jordan, and I discussed cancel culture, how hate seeped into my personal and professional life, and how death threats affected me. As usual, Jordan is back for part 2.

Here are a few reasons to listen to the entire episode with my husband, Jordan:

    • spiritual warfare with the series
    • what happened after our honeymoon
    • Jordan’s experience with cancel culture
    • the real story behind Brodie's death
    • the media and accusations of being a grifter and scammer

My rock, my husband, is back by my side as we dive into the second episode of this series. This is part 1 of a 2-part episode on Speaking Out: All the Times I’ve Been Canceled.

If you are someone that's experiencing cancel culture or trolls, know that you're not alone. Whether you have a large platform or not and are going through this, please feel free to reach out. We have to stick together. I believe that good is going to come from all of this.

Breaking My Silence: I Was Sued By The State of Texas Jun 13, 2023
    Show notes

If you're new to this podcast, or don’t know, I was sued by the state of Texas in 2019. This has been going on for four and a half years and this will be the first time I'm speaking out about it. I have made mistakes in my past that I have learned from, and I'm here to address those, take responsibility, and share how I'm moving on and forward.

Falling flat on our faces and messing up is part of being human, right? And I, for one, really messed up. There is a lot to unpack, so I've decided to make this a 5-part series, both here on the podcast and on my YouTube channel. Since this has been the most challenging time of my life, I'm blessed to have my amazing husband, Jordan, by my side in this episode for encouragement and moral support.

Here are a few reasons to listen to the entire episode with my husband, Jordan:

    • taking ownership of my mistakes
    • the darkest year of my life
    • being sued by the state of Texas
    • forgiveness and second chances
    • growing and learning from mistakes

Today's episode is going to be a little bit different from my usual episodes. I’ve been MIA from social media for the last few weeks. By the time this episode goes live, it will have been 25 days that I intentionally stepped away from social media.

In this episode, I’m going to share some things I learned on my social media break, explain why I decided to extend my fast, and announce what to expect on the podcast starting next week.

Here are a few reasons to listen to the entire episode:

    • how this fast has allowed me to be more present
    • living in the moment
    • growing closer to the Lord

Pornography, Lust, and Being Exposed at a Young Age May 23, 2023
    Show notes

Do you ever feel alone in your struggle with porn addiction? Are you wondering if there's any hope of breaking free from the stronghold that lust has over your life? If you’re wrestling with this secret sin behind closed doors, Sis, you’re not alone. Pornography and lust can be used by the devil to steal, kill, and destroy. As it says in Revelation 12:1-12, “They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”

And my special guest, Emily Robbie Smith, is here with her powerful testimony on a topic that many of you may have experienced in your own lives.

Emily Robbie Smith has been incredibly open about her testimony in this arena with her followers on Instagram and on TikTok. There's something to be said about the women of God who do not shy away from difficult conversations. Ready? Let’s dive in.

Here are a few reasons to listen to the entire episode with Emily Robbie Smith:

    • how porn is sexual immorality
    • fasting and breaking off strongholds
    • practical tips to guard your heart and eyes
    • advice for dealing with porn addiction

Christian Dating: Why Men are Afraid of Commitment with @realtrevalley May 16, 2023
    Show notes

Have you ever thought that you found “the one,” only to find out they were afraid of commitment? Or maybe he was an unbeliever and you thought that you could be the one to “fix him” and lead him to Christ. Perhaps you’ve met a man who checks all the boxes – he has a walk with the Lord, a career, is good-looking and shows interest in you – but he doesn’t pursue you.

Society has completely flipped the relationship between a man and a woman upside down. So in this episode we're talking all things dating, all things men, and why guys – even the men of God – are so afraid of commitment.

My special guest, Branson, is someone who has been a little brother to both myself and to Jordan for the last few years. When I say that he is wise beyond his years, y'all! When he speaks, he demands respect in the most Christ-like way. I'm sure a few of you have seen his videos go viral on TikTok and on Instagram, he just has so much to say and it's so good.

Here are a few reasons to listen to the entire episode with Branson aka Tre Valley:

    • why Godly men are so afraid of commitment
    • the fear of rejection
    • dating a non-believer
    • how men have become indistinguishable from God-like men

Riots, Looting, Death Threats, and the Gospel in Dark Places with Russell Johnson May 09, 2023
    Show notes

Do you find it hard to be courageous as a Christian in the times we're living in? More and more people are bowing to the opinions of others and to woke-culture instead of bowing to the cross. I get that standing up and using your voice makes you vulnerable to backlash, but guess what? Jesus Himself said, "If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you." With that topic in mind, I cannot think of a more perfect guest to have on for today's episode than Pastor Russell Johnson.

Pastor Russell Johnson was born and raised in Seattle and though he spent the first part of his adult-life working in politics, God had other plans. In the summer of 2014, Pastor Russell and his wife, Marija, stepped out in faith to start The Pursuit. Their church started in a barn with no indoor plumbing, no heat, and broken windows, but God was up to something.

In 2018, Pastor Russell and Marija purchased a former department store building and began a full-scale remodel, converting the space into a multi-use church, preschool/childcare facility, and outreach center. The Pursuit is a place where anyone can belong, everyone can contribute, and anything can happen.

In this episode, Pastor Russell Johnson and I talk about how the pandemic exposed backwards values, that cancel culture is only going to get worse, and how a little courage goes a long way.

Here are a few reasons to listen to the entire episode with Pastor Russell Johnson:

    • being courageous as a christian in today's culture
    • fighting back against cultural pressure
    • how God is working in churches around the world

The Reality of Foster Parenting: Peeking Behind the Curtain May 02, 2023
    Show notes

Have you ever thought about becoming a foster parent? Do you feel that you have a calling in life? Is it something the Lord stirred in your heart sporadically? My guest in this episode, Jamie C. Finn, has been a great sounding board for my husband and me in our season of foster parenting, and she shares the most incredible perspectives on the foster care system and foster parenting.

Jamie C. Finn is the founder and executive director of Foster the Family, the author of Foster the Family, and a highly sought-after speaker for retreats, conferences, and events for foster and adoptive parents. She is also the founder and owner of Goods and Better.

Jamie's social media platforms provide a glimpse into life as a foster parent, as well as inspiration and encouragement to thousands of foster parents. Jamie lives in New Jersey, with her husband, Alan. And at any given moment, is a mother to four to six children, including her two biological children and two children adopted through foster care.

In this episode, Jamie C. Finn and I talk about how she and her husband became foster parents to 30 children, how God has used the foster care process to teach them, and advice for those considering fostering children.

Here are a few reasons to listen to the entire episode with Jamie C. Finn:

    • the mission behind Foster the Family
    • foster care is bigger than taking care of a child
    • biggest misconceptions of foster care
    • why churches need to step up
