We gravely overestimate the effect of tiny, small changes in our lives and we give up way too easily because we aren’t seeing results fast enough. Believe it or not, you don’t have to take massive action to get massive results. In fact, you can treat your life like compound interest and stay laser-focused on an area of improvement, taking small actionable steps to create a ripple effect in your life. Becoming the best version of yourself requires you to continuously extract your old beliefs, and to download a new set of beliefs that match up with the reality you want to create.

To put it bluntly: if you don't have an internal belief system that supports your goals, you won’t be able to achieve those goals. Your beliefs are always driving what you can and cannot achieve in life.
Most humans have approximately 70,000 thoughts running through their minds on a daily basis. And from the research, we know that 5% of how you show up in life comes from your logical, thinking mind and 95% of how you show up in life comes from your subconscious mind. Your beliefs reside in your subconscious mind, but most of us aren’t even aware of those beliefs because they were formed before we were even six years old.
The good news is you can extract old, limiting beliefs and download a new set that will serve every part of your life going forward.

All of us want to be happy, even if we don’t want to admit it or we feel like it’s a frivolous thing to talk about. Some of us want professional success, to find the right partner, spiritual fulfillment, and others yearn for passion and purpose in their life. However, what holds true among almost everyone is that our culture looks at the happiness formula backward. We think, “If I get that job, then I’ll be happy,” or “When I get married, then I’ll be happy.” It’s a backward mindset.
See, when we take the time to recognize the opportunities, abundance, and blessings in our life, we begin to attract strong, better relationships. We begin to grow in our personal lives and our careers. It’s important that we let go of the unhealthy, deep-seated assumptions about what happiness looks like and start focusing more on what makes you happy in the here and now.

Many times we think we are overwhelmed… when in fact we are also underwhelmed. I believe burnout comes from both. When we feel underwhelmed, we feel lost from who we used to be, we no longer know what our hobbies are, or the dreams we want to pursue. Feeling underwhelmed keeps us tied to a job that sucks our soul or stuck in a relationship that continues to bleed us dry.
Which is why it’s time to step into the Arena of Bigness.
The Arena of Bigness is scary. It’s where you will fail. It’s full of uncertainty and risks. It’s where you fall face down in the dirt and wonder, “Will I ever get up again?” But, it’s also where you find your true gems, your true potential. It’s where you step out with courage and allow yourself to get uncomfortable because you know that’s what it takes to get where you need to go. On the other side of fear, vulnerability, risk, and uncertainty, lies greatness.

In this episode, Angela explains why it’s crucial for us as mothers to stop doing all the crap we hate and start doing the things that bring us joy. She discusses why we should create our definition of what we believe a good mom is, and not focus on the definition society has fed us. She asks the important question, “Do you want to be the mom who is modeling to her children what it looks like to enjoy being a mother? In 2018, she attended a much-anticipated famed writers’ retreat led by two powerhouse authors, Elizabeth Gilbert and Cheryl Strayed. To her dismay, she left the retreat feeling unseen and hurt by their dialogue. She was one of two black women at the retreat, making her feel alone—or like the only one in the room.
After the retreat was over, she felt inspired to write about her ‘only one’ experience in The Huffington Post. The article went viral and comments began flooding in from people from all races, ethnicities, creeds, and nationalities who had felt ‘othered’ in their lives.
This led her to go on a mission to educate others to change their perspectives on how we see, hear, and interact with one another and how to be conscientious of our differences. Laura hopes to make you think twice before judging the person standing next to you at a party, in the pick-up line at school, or in a crowded subway car.

Carol Dweck, synthesized in her remarkably insightful book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success — an inquiry into the power of our beliefs, both conscious and unconscious, and how changing even the simplest of them can have profound impact on nearly every aspect of our lives.
Dweck reveals in her research that the “fixed mindset” is the attitude or belief that we are born with a certain skill set, aptitude, intelligence, or talent and that we can’t really do much to change or cultivate it. This keeps us from realizing our true potential because we fear failure and truly don’t believe in ourselves. A growth mindset, on the other hand, believes that through effort, perseverance, grit, and determination one can cultivate and improve many of their skills, amplitudes, and intelligence.
Mindsets begin at a very young age and they develop certain beliefs about ourselves or create internalized stories that prevent us from being uncomfortable, being willing to stretch and grow ourselves so we can truly find the hidden gems inside of ourselves and step into our bigness.

The reason you can’t create behavior change or habit change in your life has nothing to do with you or your willpower. It has to do with your system. Having a goal isn’t enough to achieve the result. And the size of your goal doesn’t correlate with the size of your results.
Instead, put your energy into building a system to support your success in your habits. You might have a system for reading each night before you go to bed. A system for when, how long, and where you exercise. Creating systems is the foundation to you implementing new behaviors and habits in your life. This is where you need to spend your energy—in the system.

When it comes to change, you don’t need to take massive, gigantic action. You only need to implement tiny, 1% shifts in your life to grow yourself.
Tiny habits are the compound interest of the self-improvement world. Human beings struggle to develop and maintain habits. We do things like work out like crazy for a week or so, and then stop completely. We go on a super strict diet where we eat like rabbits only, to find ourselves engulfing a chocolate cake by the weekend. We get so overwhelmed and “go all in” that we don’t realize the power of consistency and 1% changes. If you consistently do something, even in small things, it acts as compounding interest in your life.

Sometimes saying yes to things we don’t want to do is about the kind of person that we are. We all want to be helpful and do the right thing. Doing the right thing also includes taking care of ourselves and making sure we don’t get depleted. That’s our responsibility too. You need to evaluate the cost of your “yes” and know when you say “yes” to something, you’re saying “no” to something or someone else (and often as moms that’s ourselves and our own happiness.) You need to move yourself up your own priority list and start seeing your own value. You’ll be glad you did!
