Dead Loved Ones in the Cosmere May 22, 2020

Show notes

This episode we're talking about characters and tropes. Let's talk about the dead spouses (mostly wives) and dead parents in the cosmere. Well, dead fathers in non-cosmere works, but hey. We talk about the Lost Lenore trope as well as fridging, and a good bit of poking fun about all the dead wives in Brandon's works. We have Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), Grace (thegatorgirl), Shannon (Grey), and Matt (Comatose). In two weeks we will not have our usual episode. Instead, on Saturday, June 6th, we are going to be celebrating 17th Shard's ten year anniversary. We opened our site on June 4th, 2010! Wow. So to celebrate we are going to do a live Shardcast episode on our Twitch channel ( https://www.twitch.tv/17th_shard ) at 11am Pacific. It will be an extra long time with tons of different cast members. And, if you're a Patreon supporter, you'll be able to submit questions ahead of time for the stream. Don't worry, we'll post the VODs on YouTube and we'll answer questions from chat, too, and do some fun stuff! Making Fun of Our Old Cosmere Theories May 08, 2020

Show notes

You know how we say on Shardcast that we don't need rails? Well turns out we rarely had rails to begin with. Today we are taking a look at our old cosmere theories. And when I say old I mean real old, like from 2008, pre-Hero of Ages. We'll talk about some fandom history on the forums, tell you how we got into the fandom, and mock old our old theories all around. Then at the end we'll give you some advice on how you can theorycraft better. Hopefully you'll enjoy this retrospective, and I imagine eventually we'll do another one of these! If you want a Google doc with our posts so you can read the theories in full, check out here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/10gjOYZtQG8OActlRHaaTstOy0eiS5lLZLBQ5f7ri8d0/edit?usp=sharing And if you want an etiquette guide on how to talk in debates or contentious discussion, check this out, written by Matt: https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/89580-best-practices-for-posting-in-debates-or-contentious-conversations/ This episode we have Eric (Chaos), Matt (Comatose), Evgeni (Argent), and David (Windrunner), all fandom old timers! Ship it or Rip it 2 Apr 10, 2020

Show notes

Well, we are all in quarantine, so we wanted to do some fun nonsense to take our mind off things. So it's time for some more Ship it or Rip it! We ask the real questions here, like "what is kingdom," will Shannon continue her commanding lead from last time, and will Eric be just as terrible at this game as before? Our cast today is Eric (Chaos), Shannon (Grey), Matt (Comatose), Ben (Overlord Jebus) and Grace (thegatorgirl).
