Welcome to Shameless Leadership! This show is for women, transgender people, non-binary folks, and allies who are committed to advancing their leadership and the leadership of those around them. In this space, we believe everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, valued, and supported. Our mission is to help you foster these feelings within your own circles of influence to build trust, psychological safety, and a culture of belonging.
In each episode, we dive into essential topics impacting women in leadership – everything from shutting down your inner critic and imposter syndrome to overcoming perfectionism to using your voice in new ways to advocate for yourself, your ideas, and other folks carrying marginalized identities. You’ll hear practical tips, effective strategies, and inspiring stories that will not only enhance your leadership skills but also broaden your perspective to become a more confident, thoughtful, and empathetic leader.
Our stories come from people carrying identities who are often underrepresented, underestimated, and excluded. By sharing their experiences, we aim to provide you with invaluable lessons that will transform your leadership journey. We are thrilled to have you join this community of Shameless Leaders who are actively creating a world where everyone, regardless of gender, can intentionally lead through a more curious, compassionate, and inclusive lens.

461: When Glennon Came To Visit Jul 27, 2020
    Show notes

Two weeks ago, Glennon Doyle Zoom bombed a Momentum Mamas meeting while we were talking about her book, Untamed.

To say we were surprised and delighted would be a huge understatement. I was almost speechless. And sweating profusely.

She was everything I hoped she would be: funny, humble, raw, brutally honest, and wise as hell.

She spoke about why the pain must come before the rising and how revelations make necessary space for revolutions.

While I have never shared our membership conversations on the show before, I decided to share this conversation because I know we all need a little more Glennon in our lives right now.

Listen to this conversation. Get Untamed. BE THE CHEETAH.

459: 5 Ways To Dream Big When Everything Is Unpredictable Jul 20, 2020
    Show notes

Have you lost your mojo? The world is so uncertain right now and there is no end in sight. Around us we see people losing steam and losing hope. People are sitting down.

I want to lovingly challenge you to STAY STANDING. Keep moving forward. Even if your steps are barely measurable. Any step forward is a step forward, no matter the size. And a step forward keeps you in momentum, which is key when things are hard.

The world can't afford for you to sit down. We can't afford for you to quit dreaming. We need you to keep going. Our country needs you to keep going. Your community needs you to keep going. Your family needs you to keep going.

Keep dreaming even if the dream has shifted.

Keep dreaming even if the timeline toward your dreams is totally unknown.

Keep dreaming even if your dreams feel a little silly or trivial or insignificant.

It is our dreaming that keeps our spirits up, our heads and hearts engaged, and our souls on fire.

You need your dreams now more than ever before.

If you're struggling right now, here are a few steps you can take to keep showing up for your dreams:

    1. Own what is working and what you do have control over
    2. Set some dreamy 3 year goals
    3. Make space to be quiet and creative #everydamnday
    4. Connect with other women who are still standing and in staying in momentum

I’m not going to watch you let your dreams die. STAND UP. If you need someone to hold your hand, I got you.

457: There Is No Going Back To Normal. Thankfully. Jul 13, 2020
    Show notes

What if the beauty of a revolution is that you don’t get to “go back to normal” afterward?

Living through a pandemic and a cultural revolution in the same few month period has caused a massive shift. A much needed shift, in so many ways. A shift that is providing hope - if we commit to doing better moving forward.

This is not to say there have not been losses and traumas to grieve during this time. The losses have been profound. But, there has also been new levels of awareness and conscientiousness. There has been large scale growth in knowledge and perspective. Many have tremendously expanded their capacity for compassion and empathy, as well as their commitment to being change makers.

Glennon Doyle talks about “the Knowing” in her new book, Untamed. Our Knowing is this deep sense inside ourselves that we must learn to listen to if we want to live in alignment with our core values, if we want to do better. We are in a time when we are expanding our Knowing in deep and powerful ways. And this Knowing is leading us to more doing and better doing.

Glennon is known for her saying, “First the pain, then the rising.”

I want to add to that - first the Knowing, then the doing.

As we know more and Know more deeply, we can take action. We have more power. Our voices become louder. We move through the phases of Knowing > Growing > Doing.

So, we don’t get to go back. Thankfully. We get to Know, Grow, and Do so much better as we move forward.

Listen in to learn 4 essential questions you can ask yourself as you commit to doing better moving forward.

455: 3 Steps To Create Core Values You Can Confidently Commit To Jul 06, 2020
    Show notes

A few years ago I was at a workshop for business owners and we had to create a list of our core values. We were given a list of 40 or so values to choose from and had to narrow it down to our top 5.

    I couldn’t do it.

    I cried.

It took me longer than anyone else in the room to narrow my list down to just a few core values I wanted to commit to.

The process of discernment around this brought up a lot of emotion around why certain things are important to me. It forced me to look at myself, who I am, how I show up, and how I want to impact the world.

While this was hard, it was ultimately so freeing. When I (finally) completed the exercise, I had so much clarity around what was most important to me and why each value was important. These core values have become guiding lights for me as I’ve developed as a woman, a mom, and a CEO.

Listen in to hear why committing to a short list of core values is important - even crucial. Learn exactly how to choose a few select core values that will become beacons in times of uncertainty. Get excited about determining what’s most important to you and how to live more clearly, deeply, and loudly in your values that matter the most.
