    Show notes

    Happy Monday, besties!

Today, we’re heading back to the 90s. When David Beckham met Victoria Adams, he was so besotted he could barely speak. Little did the footballer know that together, they’d become one of the most powerful, famous, and yes, scandalous couples of the nineties and noughties.

BOOK CLUB: You and Me on Vacation Sep 24, 2021

    Why hello there, book clubbers!

This month, we read ‘You and Me on Vacation’ by Emily Henry, and boy oh boy did it deliver on its promise to be a sugary, frothy read. Protagonists Alex and Poppy have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car-share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they go on holiday together. It’s a story of girl meets boy, girl befriends boy, girl falls in love with boy, girl loses boy, and then, finally, girl gets boy back.

Today on the show, Mich, Zara, and Annabelle discuss the book’s structure, believability, ending, and eeeverything in between.

Got some thoughts on our October pick, ‘The Henna Artist’ by Alka Joshi? We’re allllll ears (also, eyes, heads, bodies, etc etc) - join in the convo over on our Insta, @theshamelessbookclub. Or, if you’re after some variety, here’s a link to record a voice message via our website, too.

The politics of being an 'It Girl' Sep 01, 2021
    Show notes

    Happy Thursday, lovely people!

On today’s show: Scott Disick proves why you should never, ever, take digs at your very famous ex in someone else’s Instagram DMs. The Dolce and Gabbana fashion show was paid a visit by mother nature, what to make of the semi-terrible movie that’s number one on the Netflix charts right now, and then - finally - the politics of being an “it girl”; the UK’s biggest influencer just made the biggest move of her career so far, but lots of people have been left feeling pretty ick about it.

This week, Mich recommended watching Ms Represented with Annabel Crabb on ABC iView. Zara recommended Nine Perfect Strangers on Amazon Prime and Fox and the Big Lie on ABC.

Today, we’re heading back to 2009. For seven years, Khloe Kardashian’s marriage to Lamar Odom made for perfect tabloid fodder: a rapid-fire wedding, strip clubs, drug abuse, and infidelity. But have we ever had enough empathy for the woman at the centre of it all?
