This week we discuss: The Herding Breed

We simply love Border Collies and so we are dedicating an entire podcast to them and herding breeds generally! We totted it up and we came to the realisation that we have over 37 years combined experience of owning and working with Border Collies.

Understanding your Border Collie (or herding breed) can sometimes be a perplexing and often frustrating situation. In this episode we look at what makes Border Collies and other herding breeds great.
We also look at common struggles and ways that you can unlock the potential of your herding breed.

This week we discuss: The Bucket

This week’s topic is arguably the most important thing to understand about your dog.

Understanding your dog’s bucket is crucial to being able to turn your dog training struggles into strengths.

Exciting and scary things pay into the bucket on a daily basis. There’s only so much room and of course at some point, that bucket is likely going fill up and over flow, resulting in your dog displaying behaviours such as barking, lunging, biting, chasing..…to name a few.

What can you do to work with your dog’s bucket rather than against it?

In a world full of distractions. There is one big question on every dog owners, lips. How do I become more than just the person holding the other end of the leash? We all get dogs with a dream in mind, a vision of the future, and if right now your everyday reality isn't quite that picture you had in mind, you are in the right place, it really doesn't have to be this way. You absolutely can and will be more to your dog and then just the person who gets in between them and the world. The key is you need to be more sexy, more sexy than the neighbourhood cat. More sexy, more sexy than that half eaten hamburger they just found on the floor. And yes. Even more sexy than the dog across the road. I'm Tom, I'm Lauren and together we are absolute dogs and you're listening to the sexier than a squirrel podcast.

Socialisation Mar 25, 2020

In this week’s podcast we discuss the ‘S’ word! It’s such a hot topic isn’t it! For us socialisation is all about building positive, calm associations in the face of distractions like other dogs that are oh so exciting, and to help with this, the number one concept that we tackle from day one is disengagement.

Ensuring your puppy is having lots of good experiences is down to you by setting them up for success (training for the situation, not in the situation) controlling the controllable and knowing when and being OK with saying no as you know your puppy better than anyone else. Take a listen to the podcast for more on this!
