PublicSource is a local publication known for "progressive" content and allyship. Though they sport the "progressive" honorific, the publication has made many harmful missteps to the detriment of Black people and communities. That is to be expected, being an entirely white-lead system. The issue comes in when there is a lack of accountability when harm occurs.
On May 19, 2020, Rich Lord wrote an article in PublicSource rebranding the impact of gentrification in Pittsburgh as "Black Flight." The article erases the harmful impact displacement has had on Black people and presents the experience as a choice.
Narrative is our most valuable and powerful asset. In order to ensure that the voices of the people and their experiences are not being washed over by media, we decided to do a series on Gentrification. We kicked it off with a live panel discussion via zoom and Facebook.
Our first installment of this series features Jacquea Mae, local artivist (artist and activist) who shares her experience and perception of gentrification.

Sit tight, listen up, and be heard.
An unwarranted abduction of a bike marshal during a peaceful protest in Pittsburgh on August 15, 2020 sparked days of actions outside the home of Pittsburgh Mayor, Bill Peduto. This is because of Peduto's alarming response immediately following the abduction where he supports the incident and condemns the protestors - despite them having done nothing wrong. He immediately backpedals the next day, however, his statements become inconsistent and lacking any accountability. As protests continue, the police continue to escalate. Most recently, they set their sites on Lorenzo Rulli, well known activist and forced an arrest that was stated to be unwarranted by the DA. Don Carpenter covers this entire terrifying ordeal turn by turn on his social media linked below. Sit tight.

Dana Denson wanted to provide some clarity on a couple things mentioned in Nicky Jo's interview. Sit tight.
There has been a lot of confusion, theorizing, misinformation, and re-narration, when it comes to the Romir Talley case and subsequent protest that took place in front of the residence of Wilkinsburg, PA mayor, Marita Garrett. This series features individuals who were present on June 30th to speak on their account of events. We're kicking off with esteemed BlaQKtivist, Nicky Jo Dawson. Sit tight!
