287: Seahawks needs versus wants ahead of free agency Mar 12, 2020
    Show notes

For the two months since the conclusion of the Seahawks season, every position group has now been dissected to the point that a person could be convinced that every area of the team has room to find improvement. Ahead of free agency next week, Adam and Brandan direct the focus toward what the Seahawks really need to find in free agency and away from the positions that could be considered as luxury moves. But if Seattle is going to have a championship offseason, their financial focus truly needs to be on positions of need.

Teams can begin negotiating directly with players early next week, but is it possible that a contract for Clowney could come at the end of this week ahead of free agency? If he does decide to head out we talk about why Yannick Ngakoue isn't the answer and how there are several names in the free agent market who could be signed to help build a solid rotations of veterans along with the young players along the Seahawks line.

Compensatory picks have been announced and we talk about which picks the Seahawks have now. Russell Wilson also has a new quarterback coach who we can only expect will become the NFL's next Mike Holmgren. We close out the show by talking about the restrictions impacting Seattle sporting events, an article about the Rams that asks a question that has already been answered and a look at the NFL's latest draft model to incorrectly predict future Seahawks. Better at life honors go to leadership in XFL officiating and former Seahawks defensive back Nesby Glasgow.

286: Ngakoue trade rumor clouds situation with Clowney, post-combine talk with Rob Staton Mar 06, 2020
    Show notes

This week the rumor is that the Seattle Seahawks may be looking to trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars for their top defensive end Yannick Ngakoue. This could signal a few different things with regard to Jadeveon Clowney. Perhaps they've decided to move on from Clowney (a bit too early to seem likely), or it could be that they are trying to gauge the market before making their best offer to Clowney. It may be they want him in addition to keeping Clowney or they are simply doing their due diligence in case a deal falls through before free agency opens.

Rob Staton of Seahawks Draft Blog joins the show to talk about an unlikely scenario, but one that could be worth considering with the talent that Clemson's Isaiah Simmons could bring to the NFL. Offensive line could be a prime target, but will any of the guys the Seahawks like be left by the end of the first round? Even with the deep receiver draft, Rob considers the idea that the Seahawks could fill their need for a possession receiver by taking a tight end.

284: Free agent news - Greg Olsen to the Seahawks, Jadeveon Clowney wants a market-setting contract Feb 20, 2020
    Show notes

The first big news of the offseason hit on Tuesday this week as the Seahawks announced that they had agreed to terms with former Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen. While Seattle was in the market for a tight end this offseason considering the problems they had with depth at the position, is paying a 35-year-old the best approach. Brandan and Adam discuss the pros and cons of the situation and why the team could have felt that this was the best move to make.

In the division, we saw what average tackles are going to start making as D.J. Humphries was re-signed by the Arizona Cardinals. That means that Germaine Ifedi is likely to move on. Could George Fant take Ifedi's spot or is Fant set on heading out of town so he can play at the left tackle spot?

Reports of Jadeveon Clowney ran rampant this past week, but as we point out on the show this week, that when you visit the source material behind the story, the thing that sparked the issue is relatively benign. Of course Clowney wants the best deal possible. That's what every player wants in the offseason!

We close out the show this week by talking about the Seattle Dragons and their first win at home. CenturyLink Field has decided they don't want to take cash at the stadium anymore, which earns the Seahawks home field a "do better" call out. Better at life honors go to a Super Bowl champion helping to better the lives of some furry friends and to Adam's daughter for asking something a teenager generally wouldn't ask a parent.

    283: Catfish the 49ers! Feb 06, 2020
    Show notes

We start off the show by celebrating the Chiefs win over of NFC West rival and a fourth quarter collapse that allowed 21 fourth quarter points by Kansas City. As much heat as Kyle Shanahan is getting, very little criticism seems to be going toward the San Francisco defense for being anti-clutch in the final moments. We discuss the joy many Seahawks fans are experiencing with Richard Sherman unable to add a second title with his new team.

Now that the 2019 season is officially behind us, what needs to change for the Seahawks in 2020. Does Pete Carroll's philosophy need to evolve, could Russell Wilson talk him into allowing the team to run a more up-tempo offense? Adam discusses how the Seahawks can increase their tempo without changing the mindset of being physical in the run game.

The discussion leads toward free agency and which players the Seahawks may choose not to re-sign and also players they may cut to add some additional cap space. The biggest key to the offseason should be improving the pass rush and focusing on ways to improve the team's ability to stay healthy throughout the season.

Pick'em league winners are announced and the full results are posted. Congratulations go out to those who finished in the top 10 spots. Do better goes to the wind and people who don't return their carts in the parking lot as well as a discussion surrounding the geography of the Super Bowl winner. Better at life honors go to Brandan's daughters effort in the school spelling bee and to Andy Reid for earning his first Super Bowl title as a head coach.

282: Closing out the Seahawks 2019 season Jan 17, 2020
    Show notes

In what is becoming an overused narrative, the Seahawks did not try and force the run in the divisional round loss to the Green Bay Packers. As frustrating as it was to see once again the Seahawks trying to overcome a big first half deficit, the defenses inability to quickly adjust to the Packers plan to carve the defense with throws to Davante Adams. Even when Flowers tried to stay over the top of Adams in the second half, the receiver made the defense look foolish.

Seattle was able to mount a comeback in the second half, but Russell Wilson was under duress for a majority of the game. Adam explains why we saw Pete Carroll and the Seahawks reluctant to "let Russ cook," because he could not survive an entire season taking the kind of hits that he did against the Packers defense. Fortunately, fans were treated to one big moment as Shaquem Griffin logged his first sack in what could have been a huge turning point in the game.

The guys talk about the frustrations that fans have with Pete Carroll, what's next for the Seahawks in the offseason and if this group of players lived up to preseason expectations for what they could achieve.

Closing out the show, Adam calls out his friend Gerrad for his move to jinx the Seahawks late in the game, and to the 49ers quarterback who had no sense for history at the end of the regular season game against Seattle. Better at life honors go to a comedian raising funds for the wildfire relief efforts in Australia and the Seahawks twins for coming together and giving us a memorable post season moment.

281: Russell Wilson leads the Seahawks through Wild Card weekend Jan 07, 2020
    Show notes

The Seahawks advance into the Divisional Round of the NFC playoffs after their 17-9 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Instead of boosting their takeaway numbers, this time around they boost their sack numbers. While the numbers may say that Russell Wilson stayed clean in the pocket, it felt a lot different while watching the game. Ultimately, it was Russell Wilson leading the way for the Seahawks, both on the ground and through the air, and his biggest target downfield was rookie wide receiver DK Metcalf.

While the overall numbers weren't impressive on the ground, Marshawn Lynch had three moments that stood out. Two of those moments involved Lynch driving defensive backs to the ground after catching a pass, and the other was a vintage Beast Mode run to get into the end zone. Adam and Brandan also discuss the Jadeveon Clowney hit on Carson Wentz and Doug Pederson's fourth quarter choices to go for touchdowns rather than field goals late in the game.

280: A game of inches - the Seahawks game that embodied the cliche Jan 04, 2020
    Show notes

The regular season is over, and playoff football starts this weekend. Though a different outcome of the 26-21 loss to the 49ers wouldn't have changed the fact that the Seahawks would be playing on the first weekend, it does change the venue. About one inch could have made a huge difference. Not just for the Seahawks, but for the entire NFC playoff picture.

A overdue episode this week as Brandan is traveling and Adam had a Jeep to fix that left him stranded out of recording range. The guys get into the biggest moments from the Week 17 game against the 49ers and look ahead to the matchup with the Eagles on Sunday.

279: The Beast is Alive and Well Dec 26, 2019
    Show notes

For the 12 hours following the loss to the Arizona Cardinals, the emotions of Seahawks fans may have sunk to a season low. After the loss of Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise to injury in the matter of a few plays, Seattle fans were collectively asking the question if Marshawn Lynch was well enough to suit back up one more time in the blue and green. As things turned out, a return had already been in the works prior to Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Will the emotion of the move be enough to help motivate the Seahawks toward victory on Sunday? There is a lot for the Seahawks to overcome as Duane Brown is likely don't for the season and both Mike Iupati and Joey Hunt are hurt. Can an offensive line that allowed a huge day for Chandler Jones rebound against Nick Bosa and the other four first round picks on the stacked 49ers defensive line?

On the other side of the ball, can Jadeveon Clowney return and have a similar performance to his game against the 49ers in Week 10? If Seattle is going to get to the quarterback, they're going to have to do so with their front four, because now George Kittle is back and is having a monster season. We take a look at both playoff scenarios with a win or loss in Week 17.

278: Seahawks versus the Arizona David Larry Johnson Fitzgeralds Dec 21, 2019
    Show notes

With midweek news of the Josh Gordon and Al Woods suspensions, it takes us away from just how great this week started out following Sunday's game with the Carolina Panthers. The Seahawks moved to 7-1 on the road, Pete Carroll won his 100th regular season game, Seattle took the top spot in the NFC away from the 49ers. Plus, they were able to get the win with having so many key injuries on defense.

The Gordon suspended indefinitely and Woods out for four games, Brandan and Adam talk about which one will impact the team more moving forward. Seattle has a chance to finish the season at home now against the Cardinals at 49ers. Arizona has been a team with a history of winning late in the season at CenturyLink and Kyler Murray has improved as a passer since earlier this season.

However, this game is relatively inconsequential in terms of winning the NFC West, so Seattle can afford to rest some key players in advance of the Week 17 game against the San Francisco 49ers. In other news, the Cardinals do have one of the NFL's top 100 players as Larry Fitzgerald was named one of the few active players to the list. The Seahawks now have two members of the top 100 as Steve Largent made the list along with Walter Jones.

In the picks, congrats to BowDown2Young ! (not sure if the name was changed after the perfect week)

Here is the full list of the Week 15 results
