Scott Sigler’s Galactic Football League (GFL) Series

The GFL is a “Space Opera” series of books described as STAR WARS meets THE BLINDSIDE meets THE GODFATHER.

Set in a lethal pro football league 700 years in the future, THE ROOKIE is a story that combines the intense gridiron action of “Any Given Sunday” with the space opera style of “Star Wars” and the criminal underworld of “The Godfather.” Aliens and humans alike play positions based on physiology, creating receivers that jump 25 feet into the air, linemen that bench-press 1,200 pounds, and linebackers that literally want to eat you. Organized crime runs every franchise, games are fixed, and rival players are assassinated.

This multi-part scifi/crime/sports mashup follows a professional American football team across a far-future galaxy. Travel to new worlds, meet new races, and put their quarterback into the dirt.

Each novel and novella in the series is or will have its own season, so be sure to start from the beginning.

Season 1: THE ROOKIE (GFL Book I) | 27 episodes

Follow the story of Quentin Barnes, a 19-year-old quarterback prodigy who has been raised all his life to hate and kill those aliens. Quentin must deal with his racism and learn to lead, or he’ll wind up just another stat in the column marked “killed on the field.”

Season 2: TITLE FIGHT (GFL Novella I) | 10 episodes

Season 3: THE STARTER (GFL Book II) | 36 episodes

Season 4: THE ALL-PRO (GFL Book III) | 36 episodes

Season 5: THE RIDER (GFL Novella II) | 16 episodes

Season 6: THE DETECTIVE (GFL Novella III) | 10 episodes

Season 7: THE REPORTER (GFL Novella IV) | 12 episodes

Season 8: THE MVP (GFL Book IV) | 38 episodes

Season 9: THE REEF (GFL Novella V) | 13 episodes

Season 10: THE CHAMPION (GFL Book V) | 39 episodes

Season 11: THE STONE WOLVES (GFL Novella VI) | 33 episodes

Next Season: THE GANGSTER (GFL Book VI)

We pick up the story right from there.

THE REPORTER (GFL Novella IV) | Ep. 11 Dec 19, 2024

Show notes

Yolanda’s search for the killer of Grace McDermot finally comes to fruition. She’s found a store near the building where McDermot was killed, a store that has security cameras monitoring the exit of that building. If those records are intact, Yolanda will have incontrovertible evidence of who left the building right after McDermot died — and that will give her the killer.

Yolanda, Whykor, and Miriam narrowly escaped the Black Hole stadium, thanks to an assist from Tarat the Smasher. But that help doesn’t put them in the clear. Madderch’s deadliest cop — Parmot the Insane — was following Yolanda. Is Parmot behind the killing of Grace McDermot, for which Krakens running back Ju Tweedy is blamed? And if so, what is Parmot willing to do to keep Yolanda from getting proof?

THE REPORTER (GFL Novella IV) | Ep. 7 Dec 09, 2024

Show notes

After interviewing Ma Tweedy — mother of Ju Tweedy, the man accused of the murder of Grace McDermot — Yolanda increasingly questions the official story of the Madderch police. Yolanda also thinks her friend Miriam — McDermot’s bodyguard when McDermot was murdered — is holding back information. Yolanda and Whykor have arranged to meet Miriam at the game between the OS1 Orbiting Death and the To Pirates, played on the home field of the Death, that facility famously known as “The Black Hole.” On the field, it’s Condor Adrian vs. Frank Zimmer, and off the field, it’s Yolanda Davenport vs. this damn story.

THE REPORTER (GFL Novella IV) | Ep. 6 Dec 08, 2024

Show notes

Yolanda and Whykor’s near-death experience had a somewhat happy ending. Thanks to Doc Izzy's efforts, they both survived the wounds they suffered in their crawler encounter. But that does mean Yolanda owes Tarat the Smasher yet another favor, for it was Tarat who sent her to Doc Izzy. After recovering, yolanda was surprised to learn that Ju Tweedy’s mother — the delightful, tiny Human known to many as “Ma Tweedy” — was still on Madderch. Yolanda and Whykor the Aware are on their way to interview her. And now, Episode number six of … the reporter.
