    ____________

CONQUER ADDICTION: The latest research-based information on addiction treatment with guest Joanna Conti

Scientist Joanna Conti was so frustrated by having to repeatedly choose rehabs for her alcoholic daughter without any reliable information about the effectiveness of their treatment that she’s spent the last 6 years creating both a research company and a nonprofit to provide independent success rate data to families. Joanna joins us to talk about the different types of addiction treatment and what families can do to increase the odds that the treatment their child or spouse attends will enable them to achieve long-term recovery.

THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED: Find new tools for personal growth Mar 14, 2022
    Show notes

    IN THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS:

    ____________

Balance Your Discipline- Find new tools for spiritual growth on a road less travelled.

How disciplined are you in your life? Do you find it easy to stay motivated, stay on track, and do what is right? Do you make sure you stay focused on your goals, remove temptations, recover from mistakes? Or, Are you willing to keep trying and tolerate the discomfort to grow and get better? Specific pathways in life are less travelled because they’re more challenging.

It’s not an easy path. But could this path to enlightenment be far more rewarding?

“Take the high road,” “The road to hell,” “Take the scenic route”: the list of sayings that use roads as metaphors for life are plentiful. But what about a road that could lead to spiritual growth and exploration, a road less travelled?

In the book, The Road Less Traveled (1978), Scott Peck teaches us how to live a more fulfilling life by practicing discipline and developing a better understanding of love, religion and grace.

Let us find out what steps we can take to grow and become more balanced. In this book summary, we’ll take a trip down this road and learn how a few concepts can lead us down the path of spiritual growth – we will discover:

    • An approach that will help us find out the power of delaying gratification,
    • How love is something more than a feeling; and
    • Why being lazy is a common human trait that prevents our growth.

DISSATISFACTION: Motivation For Change Mar 04, 2022

    IN THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS:

    _________________________________________

Notice dissatisfaction and let it motivate you. "One's best success comes after their greatest disappointments." - Henry Ward Beecher Remember The feeling of being stuck is painful, but this feeling of struggle can encourage positive change and growth. Things will change in your life in direct proportion to the disappointment you feel; embrace that feeling of discontent as motivation to make things happen. The only person you have to blame for feeling disappointed is you. Blame yourself for not fulfilling your dreams. Undertake new projects and remember your dreams. Honestly admit problems. Accept and face the things you need to conquer. When you find the courage to admit you may have a problem, you then have the power to get over it and grow. Sometimes we need to acknowledge our fears, addictions, or excuses so that we can face them straight on and get through them. Affirm I use negative feelings as motivation for change. I embrace the discontent in my life. I follow my truth and look for new experiences. Sending Hugs Andrea P.S Add your thoughts and ideas to the comments. THE SWEET SPOT: The Pleasures of Suffering and the Search for Meaning

It seems obvious that pleasure leads to happiness - and pain does the opposite. But is this true? Why are we irresistibly drawn to a host of experiences that truly hurt, from the exhilarating fear of horror movies or extreme sport to the wrenching sadness of a song or novel to the gruelling challenges of exercise, work, creativity and having a family?

We seek to have a good time, to enjoy ourselves, to be happy but could there be more that motivates us? Could suffering and pain play a role in our pleasure?

A good life involves more than just pleasure. Suffering is essential too. Could there be pleasures in suffering? Could the activities that provide the most satisfaction be the ones that involve the greatest sacrifice. Let's delve into the unexpected insight into the human condition.

In his book The Sweet Spot: The Pleasures of Suffering and the Search for Meaning, Paul Bloom makes a captivating case that pain and suffering are essential to happiness. suffering is an essential source of both pleasure and meaning in our lives.
