Speaking on Business: School of Rock Salt Lake City Jul 10, 2025
    Show notes

This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. With over 350 schools and 62,000 students worldwide, School of Rock shapes the next generation of incredible musicians. Through personalized lessons, group rehearsals, and live performances, they nurture talent and build confident, skilled artists. Co-Owner, Denise Hintzke, joins us with more. Denise Hintzke: Everybody loves music, and School of Rock Salt Lake City is more than a music school – it’s a vibrant community where musicians, young and old, can discover their passion, build confidence, and find their voice. We don’t teach music to put on shows, we put on shows to teach music. This approach not only develops musical talent but also fosters teamwork, discipline and self-expression. For many students, School of Rock becomes a second home; a place to feel accepted, supported and inspired. Just like everybody loves music, everyone benefits from the creative energy that radiates from student performances, which also often support local events and causes. By nurturing the next generation of musicians and leaders, School of Rock Salt Lake City hopes to enrich the cultural and social fabric of its Trolley Square community, proudly proving what we all know: that music changes lives and brings people together. Derek Miller: School of Rock has built a strong reputation for turning passion into skill through hands-on learning and live shows. Their supportive environment helps students grow and continue developing their talent. Learn more at SchoolofRock.com. I'm Derek Miller, with the Salt Lake Chamber, Speaking on Business. Speaking on Business: Salt Lake City International Airport Jul 07, 2025
    Show notes

This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Salt Lake City International Airport is the 23rd busiest airport in the United States and 86th busiest in the world. With over 330 daily flights to 100 nonstop destinations, it continues to grow rapidly. Executive Director, Bill Wyatt, joins us with more. Bill Wyatt: Almost five years ago, Salt Lake City unveiled the first phase of The New SLC Airport and each fall has opened more gates, shops and restaurants, including the central tunnel connecting A and B concourses. Since opening, The New SLC has been recognized nationally with numerous awards and accolades, including 2nd place by USA Today readers for Best Airport Dining. More gates mean we can attract new airlines and offer more flights to more destinations — domestically and internationally. This June, Delta began nonstop service to Seoul, South Korea, opening access to Asia. With only two years of construction left, we are on our Final Approach and this October will unveil 10 more gates and 6 new concessions — featuring local favorites like Aubergine Kitchen, Monarca and a Utah National Parks store — along with a second sensory room. We look forward to welcoming you to SLC this summer and invite you to learn more at SLCAirport.com. Derek Miller: Salt Lake City International Airport continues to offer smooth operations, strong connections and modern facilities. Serving millions annually, it makes travel easy and keeps growing to provide more destinations and better experiences for passengers. Speaking on Business: TreeUtah Jun 30, 2025
    Show notes

This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. TreeUtah is dedicated to improving quality of life in Utah, now and for future generations, through tree planting, care, and education. By working with communities, they support biodiversity, promote clean air, and advance sustainable forestry. Executive Director, Amy May, joins us with more. Amy May: At TreeUtah, we believe that planting trees is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to create a healthier, more beautiful Utah. Since 1989, we've planted over 400,000 trees with the help of more than 185,000 volunteers across the state. We collaborate with schools, businesses, and community groups to plant trees in public spaces, including city parks, school playgrounds, and restoration sites. Our ecological restoration efforts focus on planting native trees along the Jordan River Corridor and in the Wasatch Mountain Canyons to support local ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and climate resilience. Through educational programs, we engage students from kindergarten to college, providing hands-on learning experiences about the importance of trees, conservation, and environmental stewardship. Whether you’re planting your first tree or your hundredth, join us in making Utah a greener, healthier place to live, work, and play. Learn more about corporate partnerships and volunteer opportunities at TreeUtah.org. Derek Miller: TreeUtah’s impact reaches far beyond planting trees — their work is a vital reminder that thoughtful action today can shape a more sustainable and beautiful Utah for generations to come. Speaking on Business: The Exoro Group Jun 27, 2025
    Show notes

This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Public policy discussions are happening all around us, and they aren’t just reserved for our elected officials. So, what does it take for important community conversations to make a difference in the lives of everyday Utahns? The Exoro Group President and founder Maura Carabello joins us with more. Maura Carabello: For over twenty years, The Exoro Group has helped Utah’s businesses, government, and advocacy leaders shape Utah’s future through essential public dialogue. Our civic life, including the laws our elected officials pass, how our tax dollars are being spent, identifying community priorities – and critically how we can disagree with civility – is a key part of our quality of life. These conversations are what The Exoro Group focuses on – whether it’s through an infrastructure project, a policy debate, or organizational training – our team gravitates to the hard work of change. We blend public policy knowledge, and communications to cut through the noise – often serving as translators between the public and private sector. Exoro means to “prevail through persuasion” in Latin – and that means being comfortable with having uncomfortable conversations. The success of our communities rely on engaged citizens who participate and we all are responsible to do just that. Derek Miller: The Exoro Group is one of many women-owned businesses helping make Utah better, supporting hundreds of campaigns and guiding clients through complex policy issues and funding efforts.
