EP#155 Deer don't read the rulebook with Derek Malcore Sep 25, 2026
    Show notes

On todays episode I'm joined by Derek Malcore from the Okayest Hunter Podcast. We sit down for a wide ranging conversation about our approach to deer hunting has changed over the years. We talk about the hunting myths and “rules” we’ve had to unlearn, why mature bucks can’t always be hunted by following conventional wisdom, and how paying attention to fresh sign, habitat, access, and deer behavior can completely change the way you hunt.

We also get into hunting with and without trail cameras, finding unconventional access routes, adapting to public-land pressure, and why simplifying your gear and trusting your scouting can lead to better hunts. Along the way, we share plenty of personal stories, failures, lessons learned, and thoughts on balancing hunting with family and everyday life.

Ultimately, this episode is about evolving as a hunter, being willing to challenge what you think you know, and learning to enjoy the process rather than obsessing over the outcome.

EP#154 The Work Behind Big Bucks with Javin Mullet Aug 07, 2026
    Show notes

Javin Mullet kills big deer. Consistently.

But what interested me wasn't just the bucks he's killed it's everything he's doing when nobody is watching that puts him in position to kill them.

Javin hunts whitetails across the Midwest, films alongside Ben Rising, and somehow manages to balance all of it while being a dad of four. We sat down and talked about what he's doing RIGHT NOW with deer season just around the corner.

Scouting, cameras, access, pressure, finding mature bucks, preparing properties, hunting multiple states, and knowing when to leave a spot alone. We also get into the side of hunting that doesn't get talked about enough, the time away from home, balancing family and hunting, failures, confidence, obsession, and what it actually takes to consistently chase mature whitetails year after year.

No gimmicks. No magic October 31st tree stand. Just an honest conversation with a guy who's figured out how to put himself around big deer over and over again. If you're getting ready for whitetail season right now, you're going to want to hear this one.

EP#153 Authenticity over Algorithms with Jacob Lishen Jun 26, 2026
    Show notes

This week on the Run'n & Gun'n Podcast, I'm joined by my good friend Jacob Lishen for one of the most important conversations we've had.

We dive into the issues shaping the future of hunting, from accountability within our own community and the growing debate over trail camera regulations to the responsibility of representing hunting well on social media. We talk about the pressure content creators face, the misconception that comes with being an outdoor personality, and whether today's algorithms reward entertainment more than authenticity.

More importantly, we discuss what the hunting community needs more of, what concerns us about the direction hunting culture is headed, and why protecting the tradition we love starts with the choices we make every day.

This episode isn't about chasing the biggest buck. It's about chasing the kind of hunter and person we want to become. Whether you're a seasoned hunter, a content creator, or someone who simply cares about the future of our lifestyle, this conversation will challenge the way you think.

    EP#152 Born from Necessity Jun 12, 2026
    Show notes

On todays episode we're joined by Cole Montgomery. Cole is a passionate mobile hunter, entrepreneur, and all around outdoorsman who's turning an idea born in the woods into a growing business. Cole shares how he got started in mobile hunting, the challenges he faced along the way, and the story behind designing a unique tree stand carrying system that helps hunters move through the woods more efficiently. We dive into the process of taking an idea from a problem in the field to a product in hunters' hands, the risks of starting a business, and what keeps him motivated to keep pushing forward.

We also talk hunting strategy, lessons learned from years in the woods, and the small-world connection that brought Cole to the same hometown where I grew up.

Whether you're a mobile hunter, an aspiring entrepreneur, or someone chasing a dream of your own, there's a lot to take away from this conversation.

EP#151 What the woods reveal about a man with Bobby Edwards May 22, 2026
    Show notes

On todays episode, I sit down with my good buddy Bobby Edwards for one of the deepest and most honest conversations we’ve ever had. Yeah, we talk hunting, bow season, struggles, lessons from the woods, and the run and gun lifestyle but this episode turned into so much more than that.

We dive into brotherhood, faith, purpose, spiritual warfare, becoming stronger men, serving others, and the battles people fight that nobody else sees. We talk about the pressure men carry, the importance of community, and how the outdoors has a way of exposing who you really are. This one isn’t about chasing the biggest buck. It’s about growth, perspective, resilience, and learning how to stay grounded through the highs and lows of life.

If you’ve ever felt worn down, stuck, searching for purpose, or just needed a reminder that you’re not alone in the fight this conversation is for you. Sometimes the best things built in the woods have nothing to do with antlers.

EP#150 Wisdom from the hardwoods with Brian Thacker May 08, 2026
    Show notes

On today's episode I sit down with my good friend Brian Thacker of Virginia for one of the deeper conversations we’ve had. Brian is a guy I’ve got a ton of respect for, not just because of his success in the woods or the caliber of deer he’s killed, but because of the perspective, wisdom, and mindset he’s built over the years.

We dive into how hunting and life changes as you get older, what shifted his mindset from simply chasing big deer to truly appreciating the process. How he’s learned to find joy in the woods no matter the outcome. We also talk about handling failure, staying positive through tough seasons, and the life lessons hunting has taught him along the way. This episode goes far beyond antlers and harvest photos it’s about growth, perspective, and what really keeps us coming back to the woods year after year.

EP#149 Campfire session with Tim Smoke Apr 10, 2026
    Show notes

On this episode, I’m joined by my good buddy Tim Smoke for a laid-back BS session. We dive into how his season went this year. The highs, the lows, and a few moments that didn’t exactly go as planned. Along the way, we get into some stories, throw out a handful of random questions that spark some pretty entertaining conversations, and just let it roll.

But underneath all the laughs, there’s a real theme running through this one is growth. We talk about what these seasons teach us, not just as hunters, but as people. The struggles, the lessons, and the mindset it takes to keep showing up and getting better. It’s real, it’s unfiltered, and it’s exactly the kind of conversation you’d have sitting around a campfire with good company
