Session Description: Episode 2 – in which ace detective (novel reader) Tomar Stormcrow takes on a case of murder. Originally recorded 28 October 2021.

System Matters:
Interested in what’s happening with the system you’re listening to? (If not, stop reading now).
This is a Pathfinder Adventure Path, run with 3.5 rules (because those are the rulebooks we have, primarily, as opposed to anything being particularly wrong with Pathfinder). For little homebrew changes, we’re using:
– Relationship Points – borrowed and adapted from the Jade Regent adventure path. Tomar gains special abilities based on the relationships with his fellow PCs for every 10 points of relationship he gets. Relationship points are gained at 1 per level, by Diplomacy checks against the PCs, and by fulfilling special conditions in each adventure that the PCs want.
– Hero Points – We prefer death to be harder to come by in a DnD game, and particularly a solo game. Hero Points can be used for re-rolls and automatically dropping to Dying instead of Dead when reduced to negative HP. Specifically, we use Harrow (fantasy Tarot) cards as the points, with extra bonuses if Tomar draws the card most suited to him (The Beating), cards of the Strength suit, or cards relevant to the situation he is facing (like The Sickness when making a save vs disease).
– House Rules – there’s a wide variety of different little house rules, additional feats, and other changes added in here.
– Extraordinary Heroes – Tomar and his PC buddies (because of their low party numbers) are considered to be Extraordinary Heroes. They receive an additional 1 HP and 1 skill point every level, helping making them a bit more generally competent. Tomar himself is a high (32) point buy character.

Session Description: Trunau sits in the Holds of Belkzen, surrounded by tribes of hostile orcs. It’s bad enough that the townsfolk keep a vow to keep their hopeknives close, to finish themselves off before the orcs can do worse to them. But now come evils worse than before, for trouble follows Trunau like crows. A simple so-called suicide is just the first step to uncovering a conspiracy of orcs, dragons, giants, and more. Trunau’s defenders will journey across the Mindspin Mountains, passing through fire and death ‘til the lightning falls…

Episode 1 – In which the audience meets the fortified town of Trunau and Tomar Stormcrow, Dwarven Sorcerer. It’s all fun and games before a terrible death. Originally recorded 26 October 2021.

– Jared as Tomar Stormcrow, Dwarven Sorcerer
– Helen as the GM / Kurst Grath (Human Rogue/Ranger) / Pella Wolfrider (gnome Druid/Barbarian) / Sigrun Rockcrusher (Dwarven Paladin of Iomedae)

Special Notes: This is a duet game – one GM, one player. To help our lead character Tomar out, he gets a rotating cast of four main (DM)PCs as his party. To save us a lot of headaches and paperwork, only one of them goes adventuring with him at a time, run by the GM. Tomar selects a party member, and they travel with him and give him access to their abilities (making it effectively a 2 member party). Because of the lack of players, a wide variety of encounters in Giantslayer have been altered or removed to make their CRs and challenge levels different.

What ensues is tough combat where the party is forced to make some hard tactical decisions.

The party continues punting through the swamps. They meet a group of Vistani, who in a fit of Romani stereotyping, invite the party to stay and read their fortunes. Chat pays for a random encounter and the party is set upon by something massively dangerous but ultimately lucrative. After collecting a strange follower they make their way to Marais d’Tarascon.

NOTE: From this point forward I will endeavor to do better than this old adventure did in ensuring that the Vistani are not just blatant stereotypes.

What terrors will they find there? What will they be forced to do to survive?

The investigators begin by questioning Larkin about his involvement in the murder of Trinidad Rizzo and the assault on Doctor Sanchez at the museum. He appears confused and weak and points to an escalation in anger from de Mendoza who the party accuses of being part of the murders. The party agrees to accompany Larkin to Puno and on to the pyramid and even manage to acquire a medical doctor with a little cash splashed around. In Puno, stories abound of vampires and other legends as the party become fully immersed in the lore of the area and plan to head out to the pyramid.
