Rock Docs: A Podcast About Music Documentaries We're joined by Very Special Guest James Campion, author of Take a Sad Song: The Emotional Currency of "Hey Jude". We discuss his book about "Hey Jude" and the influence that the song had on the "Let It Be" sessions that led to Get Back. James shares his insights after talking to songwriters, musicologists, and even Michael Lindsay-Hogg himself about this era of the Beatles' career. Plus we talk about our mutual love of rock docs and James puts on the spot to reveal our favorite Beatles documentaries (other than Get Back, of course).

Rock Docs: A Podcast About Music Documentaries
We're joined by Very Special Guests Ondi and David Timoner, director and producing partner of DIG! (2004).
DIG! is one of the most acclaimed music documentaries of all time. It's a documentary about the 90s indie rock bands The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols. Drugs are consumed, fights are had, Harry Dean Stanton Shows up, there's a lot going on in this one.
We did a full review of DIG! way back in Episode 2 of Rock Docs & after about a year of stalking, we managed to get Ondi and David on to discuss how they came to create a movie about these two bands, share tons of hilarious and enlightening backstage stories, and reflect on the film almost 20 years later. Plus - will there be a Director's Cut? What's coming up for DIG!'s 20 year anniversary?
Thanks to Interloper Films for hosting this live event. This was recorded on May 4, 2022.

Season 2 Finale! Today's documentary is Festival Express, a 2003 film directed by rock doc lifer Bob Smeaton.
Festival Express is about a rock festival tour that took place in Canada in 1970. The musicians included The Grateful Dead, The Band, Janis Joplin, Buddy Guy, Delaney and Bonnie, Ian and Sylvia, local heroes Mashmakhan, and of course everyone's favorite, Sha Na Na. They all (well, mostly) piled on a train and the film includes lots of footage of the musicians jamming and drinking the train ride away, as well as performances from the festivals.
Thanks again to everyone who's followed along through Season 2. We'll have more Rock Docs episodes coming at you every Tuesday as we gear up for Season 3.
