    Episode 106: Tricky – Actual Murder Feb 19, 2020
    Show notes

One of the most original artists of our time, Tricky is a pioneer of the Trip Hop movement, helping to shape modern music into the sounds we know today. A shy and genuine guy who was more interested in experimenting on new tracks than he was on being famous, Tricky has lived a very interesting life. From his childhood growing up in the council estates of Bristol, to seeing the beginnings of success with massive Attack, to moving around the world in search of new adventures. Everything has a story, even how he developed his signature sound (and you probably wont be able to guess it). Luck may play a huge part in Tricky's story, but so does creativity and ingenuity.

Episode 105: Death – Rock Fire Funk Express Feb 12, 2020
    Show notes

Before there was punk, there was a band called Death. If we were to tell you that three African American boys from Detroit, Michigan were playing punk in their bedroom years before bands like The Ramones or The Sex Pistols had gotten together, you'd call us crazy. But this is a true story- meet the Hackney brothers, who, with the encouragement of their friends and family, learned how to play instruments and make music together after being inspired by legendary rock acts. But, they never seemed to get recognized for their revolutionary sound until over 3 decades later. We tell you their story and where they are now after gaining the success they went after in their youths. Death is a truly epic proto-punk band, so this is an episode not to be missed!

Episode 103: The Darkness – Jingle Biz Jan 29, 2020
    Show notes

This week we're lightening up the mood here with the delightfully talented and eccentric UK rock band, The Darkness. Over here in the states we know them as a one hit wonder, but across the pond they are a big time rock band. You may think they are a total joke band, but nothing could be farther from the truth. They spent their lives cultivating their craft so they can bring good times back to rock n' roll. However, their story doesn't come without their fair share of hardships and breakups. The road for this rock band hasn't been easy, and their fast rise to stardom took a big toll that many didn't think they'd come back from. But, somehow, they managed to bring it all back together, and better than ever. Even if most of the rest of the world doesn't realize it.

These guys take the best of hip hop and bluegrass and turn them into something man didn't think was possible. You may know a little of their genre blending style with the theme song to Justified, but they are so much more than that. These talented guys give us a little background on their origin story and let us tell you, it may be the only place you hear discussions of Bigfoot, board games, and cats. Check out more of their goods at Gangstagrass.com.

    Episode 101: Nirvana Part 2 – Subway and Heroin Jan 15, 2020
    Show notes

We've reached the bridge of our Nirvana series, and here is where the tides change twice: once with the addition of their new drummer Dave Grohl, and again with the addition of the infamous Courtney Love into Kurt's love life. How did Kurt get addicted to heroin? How bad were the names of Dave's first few bands? How happy was Krist to be there? We try to answer some questions that make sense of the road Nirvana walked down and how they handled the unexpected fame that was thrust upon them. These boys didn't expect to be the answer to a generation of misery, but they answered the call anyway, much to the chagrin of their personal lives.
