Show notes

It might be February but we are still feeling the glow of the Space Cowboys New Year Day party and reliving the amazing music. This time, it's our veteran Cowboy, Brad Robinson with a funky, upbeat, disco-y house mix to get your weekend started! "So much energy went into pulling off BOC-IAND 2022 this year and it is hard to believe that it happened with the state of the pandemic in our area. I am so grateful for everyone that contributed to the event and showed up to dance with us in the sunshine. This set was a blast for me to play with so much good energy coming back to me from the crowd. Enjoy!" Deckard at IAND+BoC 2022 RIPEcast Feb 03, 2022

Show notes

Live from the Hoedown stage at It's a New Day + Breakfast of Champions, it's our very own @deckard-dj with a versatile booty-shaking, multi-genre, we-need-more-hyphens mix! Check it out! Here's what Deckard had to say about the mix! "Breakfast of Champions 2022 came in like a burst of light sending 2021 to the shadows. The energy and vibe everyone brought combined with all the hard work makes for a special once a year event that can't be topped in my book. Thank you to all the friends and fans who have supported our local scene, Space Cowboys and my DJ sets and mixes. You helped make this BoC my best yet. " About DJ Deckard: Born and bred in Washington, Keith Harris (a.k.a. Deckard) starting DJ-ing in 2000, at venues and clubs in Seattle and Canada. He moved to San Francisco in 2005 where his skills and talent evolved and became even more prolific, garnering interest and accolade and earning him a spot in the underground music scene. Deckard made his big splash as a member of Coda in 2006 at Burning Man. Soon after he joined forces with the Space Cowboys whose parties are legendary in San Francisco and Burning Man and whose Ripecast podcast was nominated for Best Podcast of the Year by Breakspoll for 2013. Mixing together a blend of music selection including, but certainly not limited to breakbeat, nu funk, and house, Deckard keeps crowds on their feet and moving backed by his unique sound and ability to mix genres whether it be playing a sunrise set at Breakfast of Champions or closing down the main room in front of a packed warehouse. Deckard has performed in a variety of venues on the west coast and Canada with DJs such as Jondi & Spesh, Uberzone, Lee Coombs, Plump DJs, Dylan Rhymes, Meat Katie, Elite Force/Simon Shackleton, Worthy and more. kev/null vs davesimon at IAND + BoC 2022 RIPEcast Jan 19, 2022

Show notes

This week, we have another tag team from It's a New Day + Breakfast of Champions. Our very own kev/null (@kevnull) with special guest davesimon (@djdavesimon)! Here's what they had to say about the set: Kevin: What an epic event. Dave and I started DJing coincidentally the same year and for the past decade have played at many of the same events, supported each other, and shared opportunities. To have our first tag team be at this special event, especially after such a long hiatus, was truly a peak experience. Dave: Meeting up to prepare and practice was hampered by all the things - 210 miles between us (Oakland/Reno), the holidays, an oddly limited number of flight options, and an insane blizzard that shut down the interstates. Thankfully two years of streaming experience inspired us to practice through a combination of high fidelity Zoom and Facetime calls, Dropbox and Soundcloud. Our mixers interfaced to Zoom, with bidirectional audio mixer monitoring + screen sharing made it possible to preview mixes, talk through sequences, flows, and visualize hot-cues. Using a common method for marking up tracks, we were able to make it happen remotely. Our first in-person practice session was the night before BOC, on New Years Eve, with a thrown-together DJ setup on a friends' kitchen table.
