I’m your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the weird, wonderful, unexplained, eerie, scary and down-right unbelievable. And on today’s Dark enigma we’re going to be diving into a legend that is one I grew up with and this was a very special listener request. We’re going to be investigating the legend of La Llorona. And, as always, we will be playing our drinking game but again, the drinking game is only for those of you that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. So you can go the easy route, since this is a decidedly Hispanic and southwest themed story you can drop some Tequila shots and I’ve found one drink named for our main character that you can find here. Ahh, now onto the game part… every time I say legend is a single shot and every time I say weeping, that’s a double shot. Alright that takes care of our business end and we can jump headfirst into today’s dark enigma… La Llorona, or the weeping woman of the southwest.
The legend of La Llorona , Spanish for the Weeping Woman, has been a part of Hispanic culture in the Southwest since the days of the conquistadores. The tall, thin spirit is said to be blessed with natural beauty and long flowing black hair. Wearing a white gown, she roams the rivers and creeks, wailing into the night and searching for children to drag, screaming to a watery grave.
No one really knows when the legend of La Llorona began or, from where it originated. Though the tales vary from source to source, the one common thread is that she is the spirit is of a doomed mother who drowned her children and now spends eternity searching for them in rivers and lakes.

Authorities say Eric Holder, the prime suspect in Nipsey Hussle's shooting death, has been captured.
"Eric Holder, the suspected killer of Nipsey Hussle, has been arrested and is in police custody," the Los Angeles Police Department tweeted Tuesday afternoon.
Los Angeles sheriff's spokeswoman Nicole Nishida told the Associated Press a man matching the description of Holder was detained Tuesday afternoon in Bellflower, a city about 20 miles southeast of where Hussle was slain Sunday.
Police are also looking for the woman who drove Holder from the scene.
Earlier Tuesday, Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore provided more details on Holder and said police believe he and Hussle were "known to each other." He also addressed the violence that broke out Monday night during a vigil outside the South Central Los Angeles boutique where Hussle, 33, was killed.
Nipsey Hussle’s memorial had the flowers, messages of love and the votive candles lined in tribute. Emotional mourners came out by the hundreds, some in tears.
Los Angeles officials recently touted the city’s declining annual homicide rate, which, last year, fell below 260 for the first time since 2014. But the shooting death of the beloved rapper on Sunday outside the clothing store he owned in South Los Angeles was an undeniable reminder that violent crime is still a scourge. And this community had been here before.
In the hours after the shooting, in which two others were injured, Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said that in the preceding week, there had been 26 other shooting victims and 10 killings in what he called a “troubling surge” of violence.

Who is Brenton Tarrant and why did he shoot up mosques? Brenton is the 28-year-old Australian-born
man, who unleashed terror at two Christchurch mosques that killed 50 and injured 50 Muslims during
Friday Prayer on March 15, 2019. But why? The simple explanation is that he felt New Zealand
authorities weren’t doing enough to control the invasion of immigrants, who he had seen destroy
Europe, what he considers the home of his ancestry. So, feeling fear and rage, he took matters into
his own hands. But, to simply call it Islamophobia doesn’t begin to explain this deeply troubled man
As is the pattern with terrorists, there were already signs of psychiatric problems in his childhood that
made him vulnerable to becoming a violent extremist later on. In this episode, you will hear about his
complex relationship with his divorced parents, especially his father who was an obsessed triathlon
competitor while Brenton was being bullied as the 'fat kid' in school. Brenton was so addicted to
video games that, according to his grandmother he “wet himself” to avoid interrupting his game.

dead after committing suicide, which sent Brenton on a trip around the world to find himself. Instead,
he found people and experiences that turned him into a terrorist “to take revenge on the invaders
