Remakers Mark 58 Part 2 {Do the Right Thing}: The Blood Is Too Bad Sep 29, 2020

Show notes

How have things changed since 1989? Some would say not at all, and if you listen to our conclusion of the discussion on Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing, you may be inclined to agree.

Remakers Mark 58 Part 1 {Do the Right Thing}: Extra Cheese and Racial Justice Sep 14, 2020

Show notes

Travel with us, back to the hottest day of the summer in the late 80s in Bedford-Stuyvesant, to a time when race relations were tense, to put it mildly. What’s that you say? This sounds like the present day? MAYBE THAT’S THE WHOLE POINT. Take a listen.

Remakers Mark What’s Up Docs 2: Hot Coffee Aug 31, 2020

Show notes

In our second installment of What’s Up Docs?, we talk about the 2011 film Hot Coffee, which on the surface is about…hot coffee, but underneath is about so much more. We never knew tort reform could be so interesting, and so infuriating. What you think you know about the titular coffee incident is likely A) wrong or B) 1% of what actually happened. Unless you are an attorney who specializes in tort reform law, in which case you probably know a lot about this movie and have very strong opinions. We’d love to hear them.

Remakers Mark 57 Part 2 {Tombstone}: Wyatt’s Final Form Aug 17, 2020

Show notes

When one person overacts, does everyone then as a reaction start to overact, too?

We conclude our discussion of Tombstone by revealing the most beautiful cast ever, and Adam Driver. Don’t shame us, though, for even you, our dear listeners, went full gorgeous on your picks. Ya’ll are just as vapid as we are. We talk about the historically-adjacent accuracy of this movie, how the writers realized they needed a new villain with 40 minutes left of the movie, how Andy will die on the hill of This Is Val Kilmer’s Best Performance, and why the Earp Vendetta Ride is Kyle’s third favorite attraction at Disneyland.

Remakers Mark What’s Up Docs 1: Jodorowsky’s Dune Jul 16, 2020

Show notes

This is the first episode in our new series, ‘What’s Up, Docs?’, where we each choose a documentary that we would like our fellow co-hosts to watch and discuss. Up first is Kyle’s choice of ‘Jodorowsky’s Dune‘, the story of a (possibly) madman making a (possibly) brilliant take on Frank Herbert’s (largely agreed upon) masterpiece, Dune.

Remakers Mark 56 Part 2 {All of Me}: The Most Bitter Guru Jun 08, 2020

Show notes

It was like Steve Martin doing Lily Tomlin doing Steve Martin doing an Elvis impression.
– Kyle

Whose body would you like to share? How did Steve Martin make his body do that? Why was Praka Lasa so dippy? Would a shirtless Clark Gable help or hinder? We take on these tough questions and more in the conclusion of our discussion of All of Me.

Remakers Mark 56 Part 1 {All of Me}: Bendyman May 25, 2020

Show notes

I was wondering that, too! What *is* the opposite of a straight-man?
– Jer

Welcome to our first discussion of All of Me, only one of the many comedies in which Steve Martin is wholly or partially possessed. Together with director Carl Reiner, he created an entire sub-genre the world didn’t know it needed. Probably still doesn’t know. Listen along as we see what shakes through our collective brain colanders to land in the casserole of our remake.

Remakers Mark 55 Part 2 {Watchmen}: He’s A Montager! May 11, 2020

Show notes

Like Zack Snyder or not, he Snydered all over this movie. (Gesundheit)
– Jer

Welcome to the conclusion of our discussion of Watchmen! We take turns ripping it apart and then praising it and coining the term “Snydering all over the movie.” We apologize for that. This film is full of flawed characters and anti-heroes. Is it just a mirror on society? A B-squad superhero collection? Who listens to the people talking about the Watchmen? We hope you do.

Remakers Mark 55 Part 1 {Watchmen}: J.V. Batman Apr 27, 2020

Show notes

Who watches the Watchmen? We do, daggummit! Here we tackle how to recast the six major vigilantes from the 2009 Zack Snyder film, and somehow manage to not drop any squids on anyone. That we’re aware of, at least.
