Episode Synopsis:
Rebecca is trapped in a repetitious nightmare. Curiosity leads to her witnessing a miracle by a captivating foreigner, an experience that turns her life upside down.
This is a dramatization inspired by the biblical account in Luke 7:36-50.
The Luke 7 account of the sinful woman is seperate to the accounts in Matthew 26, Mark 14, and John 12. The sinful woman referenced in Luke 7 was not Mary.
The most compelling evidence for this is the fact that the Luke 7 account is the only one that identifies the host as a Pharisee named Simon. The other accounts document Jesus being in the house of Simon the leper.
These are two different people that coincidentally shared the same popular name at the time. This becomes the only possible conclusion given that a leper could never have been a Pharisee. Lepers were viewed as embodiments of sin (listen to episode 1 of Redeemed Podcast for more context).
Not only are these events completely separate, they represent different messages. The accounts in Matthew 26, Mark 14 and John 12 celebrate Mary’s correct understanding of the imminent death of Jesus, but the passage with the unknown woman in Luke 7 is a message of raw repentance.
We’ve given this unknown woman a name, Rebecca.
And her journey will stay with you forever.
