The Evolving Conversation, John Vervaeke & Peter Limberg Aug 27, 2020
    Show notes

How do we have conversations that can go into new territory? John Vervaeke and Peter Limberg are enmarked on a project to revive the ancient practice of 'dialogos', a form of dialogue that created the first wave of Greek philosophy. Peter Limberg will be leading a session for the Rebel Wisdom Community this Thursday, on the topic of Memetic Mediation, more details below, to take part, become a Rebel Wisdom Member. John Vervaeke has become known to many through his series 'Awakening From the Meaning Crisis'. Since the release of this grand history of thought, he has turned his attention to the process of how we come to generate new ideas; dialogue and dialectic. Peter Limberg runs The Stoa, and is the Rebel Wisdom Toronto Correspondent: https://www.thestoa.ca/ In this wide-ranging and fascinating discussion, they talk about where the cutting edge of the evolving conversation is at, and the necessity to cultivate new skills to move forward. Multiple worldviews of how the world "is" and "ought" to be are co-existing, and this co-existence is not a peaceful one. The build-up towards the 2020 election in American is seeing to an intensification of our culture war, and because of this we are seeing memetic violence turn kinetic. How can we wise rebels address this? Memetic mediation, the ability to mediate amongst radically different worldviews by taking on a multitude of perspectives, might hold the key. Before mediating between "memetic tribes" however, one will have to address their own internal conflict. The psychodynamic is political. If one cannot get into the right relationship with themselves, and the various subpersonalities they consist of, they won't be able to help others get into the right relationship with each other. In this interactive session, Peter Limberg will introduce the concept of memetic mediation, followed by various practices that will help us sniff out our "philosophical allergies", in service to learning how to be responsive rather than reactive in the culture war. 90 mins.

Indigenous Thinking for Troubled Times, Tyson Yunkaporta Aug 24, 2020
    Show notes

Can indigenous thinking save the world? Tyson Yunkaporta's new book 'Sand Talk' explores this question and is making a big impact. A senior lecturer in Indigenous Knowledges at Deakin University in Melbourne, Tyson is a member of the Apalech Clan in far north Queensland. In conversation with Rebel Wisdom's Alexander Beiner, he explains how looking back on Western civilisation from an indigenous perspective opens up a new way to look at everything from the economy and government to complexity theory and the culture wars. With a unique blend of humour, theory and indigenous knowledge, he provides an important new perspective on some of the biggest issues we've covered on the channel. Identity & Empathy, Ayishat Akanbi Aug 14, 2020
    Show notes

Ayishat Akanbi is a stylist and cultural commentator, her monologue 'The Problem with Wokeness' went viral a couple of years ago. She argues that modern social justice movements, or 'wokeness', often creates division, and harms those it is intended to help. In this conversation with Rebel Wisdom's David Fuller, she talks about how she used to be an activist, but her perspective comes from a deep spiritual transformation she went through. She also talks about the paradox of wanting to get beyond the politics of identity, while knowing that her identity characteristics mean that her words are taken more seriously. Spirituality & Conspiracy. What's Going On? Aug 11, 2020
    Show notes

Since the start of the pandemic there has been an exponential growth in all-encompassing conspiracy narratives, with the viral success of the 'Plandemic' documentary trailer being the most popular example. In particular we have seen traditional right wing conspiracy narratives combine with traditional left wing alternative, spiritual communities. What is this new phenomenon, and what is causing it? In this film in Rebel Wisdom's Sensemaking series we try to understand the nexus between spirituality and conspiracy thinking. Now What the F**k is Going On? Sensemaking Series Jul 27, 2020
    Show notes

Rebel Wisdom's Sensemaking Series is looking at the problem of truth in the digital age. If we can't agree on what is true, how can we even begin to solve any of the other problems we are facing.

In the first film in the series 'What the F*ck is Going On', a month ago, we looked at the growing crisis in journalism. The crisis has continued to accelerate in the last few weeks.

In this edition, Rebel Wisdom founder, journalist David Fuller speaks to Jesse Singal from the Blocked and Reported podcast, and also brings in new material with Bret Weinstein, and frameworks to understand what's happening from Jordan Hall.

Can Truth Survive Big Tech? Tristan Harris Jul 22, 2020
    Show notes

How is social media and big tech pushing us towards conflict and polarisation? Tristan Harris has been called the "conscience of silicon valley". He worked for Google as a Design Ethicist until 2016, when he became so concerned about the direction tech was taking us that he quit, to set up the Centre for Humane Technology. In this conversation with Rebel Wisdom's David Fuller, they discuss how the incentive structure of the "attention economy" is turning us into different kinds of beings, and that if we can't recover some human values, then the future for humanity looks bleak. What Happened to the Intellectual Dark Web? Bret Weinstein Jul 22, 2020

What does he make of the trajectory of the Intellectual Dark Web project over the last two years? This interview was conducted in late February 2020. Music and Transformation, Tim Booth & James Jul 21, 2020
    Show notes

The music of James contains one of the most complete records of the process of spiritual transformation in music. But until now, the author of these lyrics has not shared where his inspiration came from. While most of the band's contemporaries in late 80s Manchester such as the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays were fuelled by hedonism and ecstasy, singer Tim Booth was deep in hardcore spiritual practice. In this full and frank conversation with Rebel Wisdom's David Fuller, Tim explains the full backstory for the first time. There is a Medium article alongside this film with links to many of the band's songs referenced in the film: https://medium.com/rebel-wisdom/music... Over two years ago the New York Times reported on "a group of heretics, making an end run around the national conversation", the Intellectual Dark Web. Since then the concept has been celebrated and criticised in equal measure. Rebel Wisdom talks to the man who came up with the name, mathematician Eric Weinstein, about the web and its critics. What has been learned since 2018? This interview was conducted in April 2020.
