In this episode, we recap some of our favorite moments from 2023 on Real Life Real Crime Daily. We discuss a variety of topics, including a story about a citizen vigilante called Taco Vigilante, who is now facing calls for his arrest after fighting back against a robber in a taco joint. We also talk about our game segments on the show, including a Jeopardy game with a true crime twist. We mention the success of the game and how listeners have been participating and enjoying it. Overall, it has been a year filled with interesting crime stories and engaging discussions.
Next, we dive into a trivia game where we have two categories to guess from. The first category revolves around TV series private eyes, and we have to identify the actors who played those roles. The second category focuses on alphabet agencies in the US government. With a buzzer problem, both of us can answer the questions, but the first one to yell "boom" gets the chance. We share some lighthearted banter and the ups and downs of the game, with Jim having a two-point advantage initially but Woody making a comeback. We highlight the friendly competition and lively interaction during the game.
Moving on, we recount a moment in the podcast where Jim struggled to remember the name of the actor from the show Law and Order, eventually recalling it as Dennis Franz from NYPD Blue. We continue playing the game, with Woody and Jim both ending up with negative points. We share a humorous incident when Jim couldn't answer a question about Kristen Bell and decided to Google her later. Woody emerges as the winner of the game, and we discuss the results and congratulate him on his victory.
After the game, we briefly touch on the popularity of TikTok and how it has gained traction, even among those who aren't typically into internet trends. We mention a TikToker named Taylor Frankie Paul, who was recently arrested for alleged domestic violence in Utah. We provide some details about the arrest and the charges she is facing, including assault, criminal mischief, and committing domestic violence in the presence of a child. We mention her social media influencer status and the impact it may or may not have on the ongoing investigation. We highlight her plea of not guilty during her court appearance and the restrictions put in place regarding alcohol consumption and contact with certain individuals.
Next, we discuss a national story about a man named Nathan Millard who went missing in Baton Rouge. We provide a timeline of events and his last confirmed sightings at a basketball game and various locations around the city. We mention the discovery of his wallet and phone, as well as the search efforts and ongoing investigation. We emphasize the importance of surveillance footage and the possible involvement of multiple individuals due to the finding of a large piece of carpet. We highlight the local police department's handling of the case and the request from the family for the involvement of the Louisiana State Police. We shed light on the challenges faced by the local police in seeking outside assistance and maintaining public confidence.
Moving on, we share details about an ongoing investigation involving a body found wrapped in plastic and carpet in a dangerous neighborhood. We discuss the concerns raised regarding the handling of potential evidence and the speculation surrounding the cause of death. We mention the possibility of the body being a result of an overdose and the selling of drugs leading to a murder charge in Louisiana. We share insights from a detective involved in the case and their decision not to take the entire rug from the crime scene. We highlight the uncertainty surrounding the situation and the need for further investigation.
In the next segment, we express concern for a family involved in a particular case and the possibility of foul play. We delve into the discussion of fentanyl-related deaths and the dangers associated with drug use. We mention the victim potentially taking drugs while on a trip and the challenges faced by the family in getting answers from the local police department. We discuss the request for the state police to take over the case and the difficulties involved in such a request. We highlight the discovery of a body wrapped in plastic and carpet, indicating the involvement of multiple individuals. We conclude by offering condolences to the victim's children and promising to provide updates on the case.
Switching gears, we share a lighter story from Wichita Falls, Texas, involving the arrest of a woman for allegedly hitting her daughter with a box of vanilla wafers. We provide details about the incident, including the self-defense claim made by the mother and the impact on the daughter. We discuss the age of the daughter as a minor and the setting of a bond for the mother. We express disbelief at the situation and the importance of not wasting vanilla wafers.
Lastly, we delve into a conversation about the decision to arrest individuals and the removal of potential threats from dangerous situations. We discuss the significance of signs of aggression and the potential escalation of such incidents. We humorously debate the use of cookies and cookie packaging as weapons, highlighting the absurdity of the situation.
