We have two fantastic authors on this episode of the #ReadingWithYourKids #Podcast. Sara Chinakwe is on to celebrate her debut #PictureBook You Come From Greatness. In this book a young boy learns that he is walking in the footsteps of greatness through a vibrant, lyrical retelling of Black history—both a love letter to Black children and an anthem empowering them to know their God-given worth. Throughout the story, the boy discovers the rich heritage of those that have gone before him and learns how he embodies that same greatness. He, too, has the power to change the world by embracing exactly who God made him to be. Liliana Tommasini joins us to celebrate Octavia Can Do It! Liliana tells us that Octavia is a spunky little girl who loves to bake cookies with her Mama. Mixing flour, butter and eggs is one of her favorite things to do. Today, Octavia wants to do things differently. When Mama steps out of the kitchen, Octavia takes over with an "I can do it" attitude. But as flour and cocoa cover the walls, cabinets, and countertops, she starts to question herself. Will her cookies turn out as good as Mama's cookies? Octavia Can Do It! is the humorous story of a young girl as she discovers that even the most independent people need a little help sometimes.

We are taking a look back at three of our favorite moments on the #ReadingWithYourKids #Podcast from 2022. Jason Broughton, director of the National Library Service, tells us about the important mission of the library to serve folks who are blind or print disabled. This is a great resource for families with kids who are blind or who struggle with learning challenges like dyslexia. We also look back at our time with Ben Feller, former chief White House correspondent . He talks to us about helping our kids become more medis literate and how cool it is to fly on Airforce One. To close out the episode, and the year, we listen back to our chat with Hollywood superstar Jazmyn Simon who reminds us that we are all perfectly created and loved.

Feeling All My Feelings Dec 27, 2022
    Show notes

Kim T S is on the #ReadingWithYourKids #Podcast to celebrate her #ChildrensBook Feeling All My Feelings. Kim tells us that in addition to writing children's books and running a business, most of her energy goes towards raising a sweet, silly, and strong-willed little boy named Kyle. Kim says Kyle helps her write all of her books. When her dad passed away in late 2019, it put a lot of things into perspective for her. She left her corporate job to focus on Kyle, who was struggling a lot with big feelings (especially anger). She also found the courage to seize the day and write her first book. She wanted Kyle to understand that, while all feelings are okay, we can't let them take over us. "Feeling All My Feelings Book" helps Kyle calm down when he's upset, and has led them to discuss difficult feelings together. Kim and Kyle hope their books can help you, too.
