Although we fight, gender equality is a distant dream. Our sons have more power in this messed up world than our daughters because the patriarchy is REAL. We must all acknowledge that fact.
The ways in which we talk about masculinity are constantly changing. Masculinity itself is changing too--slowly, and for the better. But are you still prepetuating sexist values in your household? Are you holding your boys accountable? Are you unhealthy suppressing their emotions because of how you were raised? How are you teaching your daughters to navigate this world of toxic masculinity?
Join host, Noleca, her husband, Homero, and their old friends--Joaquin Morante and Alfredo Jones as they discuss joys and challenges raising daughters.

Competition isn’t always a good thing. How much is “winning”wrapped up in white supremacy? Are you too harsh on your child when they lose or fail? Is your competitive nature clouding your judgement as a parent? How can we practice more patience, love & understanding when raising our children so that they grow to be self-confident, good global citizens?
We all think our children are special. And they are...but they aren’t more special than anyone else’s children. Or any other human for that matter--win or lose. It is imperative that as parents raising free children in this new world, that we instill this humility and perspective in them.
Join our host, Noleca, her husband, Homero, and the black parents of a 15-year-old competitive gymnast, Toni and Tori Kelly and they discuss the complexities of sport.

When you think of a safe neighborhood in your mind’s eye are you envisioning a white neighborhood? Why is that? Are you low-key promoting white supremacy in the quest for freedom?
Whiteness, and proximity to it, is both safe and harmful. How do we talk to our children about that harm within the safety? What do we do when those “safe” white spaces backfire? What happens when other parents at school assume you are the help? Join our host, Noleca, and our special guest Anastacia-Renee for part 2 of this Raising Rebels special!

So many parenting anxieties are based in the need for safety.
Parents want to keep their children safe. And safety is on the path the freedom. But what cultural sacrifices are we willing to make in the name of “safety?” And are they really worth it in the end?
Join our host, Noleca, and multi-genre writer, performance artist, educator and mother of 2, Anastacia-Renee, as they discuss the very rational anxieties that come along with parenting free black children and how internalized oppression makes us a key boundary to their freedom.
