Toilet Radio 566 – Gothic Metal Jun 25, 2025

Show notes

This week on Toilet Radio: We’re grippin' and sippin' at tear-stained chalices in our finest corsets as we discuss GOTHIC METAL. What in the world is gothic metal? What makes it different from goth rock and just how many sub-sub genres of it are there? We talk about some stand-out gothic metal acts like Type O Negative, Paradise Lost, Katatonia, and Moonspell while discussing some lesser-known bands you oughta know about. Brace yourself for sad bois and goils, frilly shirts, and plenty of tinkly keyboards as we get goth as all get out. Folks, it’s a good one. Toilet Radio 565 – Doom Metal Jun 18, 2025

Show notes

This week on Toilet Radio: We're taking our sweet ass time to discuss one of the slower elements in the heavy metal periodic table. This week is all about DOOM METAL. What is Doom? When did it differentiate itself from the first wave of heavy metal? What makes it a distinct entity from the many subgenres that emerged concurrently? Who are the power players throughout the decades? We're talking about an obscure NWOBHM band that unintentionally helped create the genre, Candlemass picking up the baton and making their stamp on the genre, and a variety of killer bands that have refined and reinvigorated the genre since. Folks, it's a good one. Just a heads up: we cannot play full tracks on your regular feed so if you wanna hear the UNCENSORED version of this episode, pop over to the TovH Patreon to get the episode in full UNCUT glory. Toilet Radio 564 – Hardcore Jun 11, 2025

Show notes

This week on Toilet Radio: We're continuing our Genre series in which we spend an hour discussing one subgenre that makes up the kaleidoscope we know as heavy metal. This week it's all about HARDCORE. What is hardcore? How did this genre full of suburban knuckleheads bloom from the comparatively cosmopolitan world of 70s punk rock? How in the world did this small teenage scene go from 80s squalor to following Krishna in the 90s, get hip hop focused in the 2000s, and become mostly metal all along the way? We pick out a handful of songs that we think best illustrate the dimensions of hardcore and discuss what these bands all did to inspire a legion of other bands and sub-sub genres in their wake. Folks, it's a good one. Just a heads up, this episode is TOO HOT for standard platforms. You can listen to a stripped-down version here or on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts BUT if you want to listen to the full, uncut version you'll need to check out the Toilet ov Hell Patreon page. Toilet Radio 563 – Death Metal Jun 04, 2025

Show notes

This week on Toilet Radio: We're launching a new series in which we discuss one subgenre in heavy metal at a time. This series is about taking a single genre and discussing all the things we like about it. It's a wildly different approach for us. We're talking about the history and highlights of DEATH METAL in this very first edition. Where did it come from? Where did it go? Where did it come from, Death Metal, Joe? We're talking about thrash origins to a Floridian bloom, UK proliferation, and Swedish perfection in this compact lil primer on the genre you all know and love. We pick out a handful of songs that we think best illustrate the dimensions of death metal and discuss what these bands all did to inspire a legion of other bands and sub-sub genres in their wake. Folks, it's a good one. Just a heads up, this episode is TOO HOT for standard platforms. Join us as we get way deep into the weeds of Taco Bell's "Feed the Beat" marketing campaign.
