Being offended is inevitable. Living offended is a choice.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. 17Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:14-18 NIV

A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense. Proverbs 19:11 NIV

MISSING PEACE—1IS PEACE EVEN POSSIBLE IN 2020?
In that day, everyone in the land of Judah will sing this song: Our city is strong! We are surrounded by the walls of God’s salvation. 2Open the gates to all who are righteous; allow the faithful to enter. 3You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! 4Trust in the LORD always, for the LORD GOD is the eternal Rock. Isaiah 26:1-4 NLT
    • shalom—wholeness, completeness, fullness of peace.• Peace isn’t found in the absence of problems. True peace is found in the presence of God.• The battle for peace always begins in our minds.
You will keep in perfect peace ... all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Isaiah 26:3 NLT
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast ...
    Isaiah 26:3 NIV
    • samak—to lean on completely, to fully rest oneself.
    • What’s your mind fixed on?
... Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9... Then the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9 NLT
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27 NIV
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
    TALK IT OVER
Peace isn’t found in the absence of problems; it’s found in the presence of God. Does that change your perception of what peace is and why it’s important? If so, how?

    CALLED—2 RECLAIM YOUR CALLING
Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Ephesians 4:1 NLT
    • God calls you to salvation.• God calls you to sanctification.
    • God calls you to service.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17 NIV
Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 1 Corinthians 1:26 NIV
    • God doesn’t call the prepared. God prepares the called.
    TWO QUALITIES OF CALLING
    1) Calling costs.
But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. 16I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.” Acts 9:15-16 NIV
    • God often uses our deepest pain to launch our greatest calling. 2) Calling sustains.
    • Paul didn’t finish because he was competent. Paul finished because he was called.
... Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14 NIV
For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn. Romans 11:29 NLT
... we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. 12We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you ... 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 NIV
    TALK IT OVER
What are some ways your calling has cost you? How have you seen your calling sustain you?

What do you want to do with your life? It’s a question that we are asked from the time we are kids. It might be easy to think of this in terms of a job, or a family. But what about living a life with meaning? Many people would say they want to live a life of significance, but we’re not sure how to do that. How do you know what God is calling you to do with your life? Where do you start? How do you stay on track? And if you lose your way, how can you find it again?

IN GOD WE TRUST—4WHEN CHRISTIANS GET IT WRONG
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. ... 14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1-5, 14 NIV
HOW DO WE FAITHFULLY REPRESENT JESUS IN A POST-CHRISTIAN CULTURE?
    • We are called to live and love with grace and truth.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 NIV
    • pleres—filled to the brim, abounding in, thoroughly full.
    Grace Saves
    Truth Frees
    • Problem #1: Truth without grace leads to rebellion.
    • Problem #2: Grace without truth leads to relativism.
    • charis—the undeserved kindness, favor, and goodwill of God.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—9not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Romans 6:1-2 NIV
    TALK IT OVER
Do you tend to extend more grace or more truth to others? How about to yourself?
Who are some of the people you’d like to get better at extending grace to? How could that play out?
Reach out with grace to one person in your life who may feel judged, excluded, or hurt by your belief. Ask them how you can get better at
    showing them love.

    IN GOD WE TRUST—1
    CAN YOU TRUST GOD?
TWO PRAYERS TO BUILD YOUR TRUST
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” 5Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything ...” Luke 5:4-5 NIV
    1. Lord, help me to obey You even when I don’t understand.

    • You don’t have to understand completely to obey immediately.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV84
    batakh—cling to
When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. Luke 5:6-7 NIV
    2. Lord, help me surrender what I cannot control.
... Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” 11So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. Luke 5:10-11 NIV
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. Psalm 20:7 NIV
    TALK IT OVER
Have you ever obeyed God even though you didn’t understand what He was doing? What was that like? What did you learn from that experience?
God is in total control, and He will one day right every wrong and restore the whole earth. How might your life be different if you lived with that truth in mind?

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
2So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. 3Let the oceans roar and foam.
