Keeping Elon could cost Tesla millions, Rivian R2 and affordable Lucid arrive
Mar 13, 2026
On today's episode of Quick Charge, a new lawsuit alleges that Tesla was negligent in retaining Elon Musk as CEO, comparing him to a fast-talking salesman and questioning his input into engineering and safety decisions at the struggling EV brand.
Plus, we explore the executive exodus at Tesla that began in mid 2024, ask why Tesla cars equipped with FSD are driving people into lakes and through railroad crossings, then take a look at the Rivian R2 and upcoming, mid-sized Tesla Model Y "killers" from Lucid.
Are these the most credible threats to Tesla's Model Y dominance in America's EV market, yet, or will Tesla's "negligent" CEO come through on his AI-powered promises?

Can EVs help solve the affordability crisis? Dave Thomas from CDK talks it out
Mar 10, 2026
As the average transaction price of a new car creeps towards $55,000, a coming wave of low mile, off-lease EVs with massive depreciation could help car dealers solve the affordability crisis, combat sticker shock, and move more units. CDK's David Thomas talks us through it on today's surprisingly affordable episode of Quick Charge.
A tidal wave of EVs leased in the early-2020s is about to come back to dealers, with over 300,000 electric lease returns expected in 2026 alone, and many hundreds of thousands more every year thereafter just as used values fall and fuel prices climb. For dealers and buyers alike, that volatility could turn what looks like a resale disaster on paper into one of the biggest affordability opportunities the car market has seen in years.

Elon’s dirty deals, Tesla’s credit losses, and electric semi trucks save BIG money
Mar 04, 2026
On today's disturbingly dirty episode of Quick Charge, Elon Musk is undoing nearly two decades of decarbonization by pumping out massive amounts of pollution to keep his xAI and Grok slop-machines rolling – and hurting some of America's most vulnerable communities at the same time.
Tesla's troubles with pollution and carbon don't end there, either – two of company's biggest buyers of carbon credits are taking their business elsewhere, and the damage to Tesla's bottom line could be in the billions. Plus: it's a record month for Hyundai IONIQ 5 sales, electric semi trucks really do save fleets money, and some cool pictures of Volvo heavy equipment assets getting topped off at the Circle K!
And, before you ask: NO! The irony is not lost on me ... but I didn't waste any water making the image, I just copy/pasted it in (he said, defensively).

Tesla AI5 is late, Canada gets Chinese cars, and EV beats diesel in extreme cold
Jan 20, 2026
On today's bitterly cold episode of Quick Charge, Elon says the chip he said was ready six months ago isn't actually ready, Chinese carmakers make a deal with Canada, and a series of new, real-world studies prove that EVs will save your fleet money over diesel, even in the most extreme cold weather use cases.
We've also got another new entrant in the solid state battery race promising more than 600 miles per charge and an innovative new way to keep warm in the winter with a clever use of bricks and excess solar power.
New episodes of Quick Charge are (allegedly) recorded several times per week, most weeks. We'll be posting bonus audio content from time to time as well, so be sure to follow and subscribe so you don’t miss a minute of Electrek’s high-voltage podcast series.

We'll also taking a look at Hyundai's fifth consecutive record sales year with nearly 1 in every 3 new Hyundai's sold being electric and another third being hybrids, and explore some of the big promises being made by a two-wheeled startup that's making some heady solid-state battery claims that carry plenty, plenty of asterisks.

2026, and the road ahead for clean fleets with TRC’s Joe Annotti
Nov 25, 2025
We've also got a sneak peek at the agenda for the 2026 ACT Expo in Las Vegas, which is set to spotlight the full spectrum of technologies driving fleet advancement today, from digital and connected solutions to low-carbon and zero-emission vehicles. More than 12,000 attendees are expected from the fleet, shipping, OEM, utility, infrastructure, energy, and telematics sectors will be on hand, with a few dealers and policymakers to spice things up.
But, of course, the biggest buzzwords will be AI, autonomy, software-defined vehicles, and incentive-stacking – all of which might mean something else to a commercial fleet than it does to a soccer dad.
"The accelerated development and deployment of the range of digital solutions – on top of the increasingly wide array of powertrain technologies and fuel choices available to today’s commercial customers – is truly astounding," says Erik Neandross, President of the Clean Transportation Solutions group at TRC, producers of ACT Expo. "It is an incredibly exciting time in our industry, but one that we also know can be dizzying for fleets to keep up with it all."
come together for four days of peer-to-peer education, real-world case studies, and direct access to the people and solutions shaping the industry
I've included a few articles from last year's ACT Expo in the show notes, below, as well as some links that we reference in the interview. Enjoy!

Elon threatens to rage quit Tesla if he doesn’t get his $1 TRILLION payday
Oct 20, 2025
Elon Musk implies that he'll quit his part-time job as CEO of Tesla (TSLA) if he doesn't get his $1 trillion pay package. On today's episode of Quick Charge, I suggest GM's Mary Barra should replace him, and explore some of the compelling EV deals out there looking to take a bite out of Elon's market share.
In addition to my take on what the TSLA board should or shouldn't decide, we've got a pile of EV lease deals, some hot, upcoming new electric Jeep models, and a look at some of the ways the end of the Federal EV tax credit isn't the end at all.

Real-time EV charging prices at thousands of chargers, now on Chargeway Plus
Oct 17, 2025
A lot of EV charging apps can tell you where the plugs are, and Chargeway tells you that, too — along with everything else. From your EV's state of charge, to the best charging strategy to get you from point A to point B, to real-time charger availability, and more, it's simply the best tool I've found to help new EV drivers understand how an EV fits into their busy lives today. And as of today, in fact, Chargeway is adding another benefit to its platform: real-time kWh pricing.
Today's announcement ahead of Electrify Expo Industry Day in New York means that Chargeway Plus subscribers will have access to real-time pricing for more than half the public charging stations in North America, including daily price/kWh rates as well as variable kWh pricing for individual stations within the station details, empowering cost- and grid-conscious EV drivers with the information they need to make a fully informed charging choice.
That's not all. In addition to showing the price/kWh for power, Chargeway's unique, patented colors and numbers system makes it easy for drivers to make smart choices, saving themselves time, money, or both — that's something that's especially critical as new EV drivers learn to navigate not just the rapidly evolving EV charging infrastructure, but the widespread rollout of NACS/CCS adapters, as well.
"Our mission at Chargeway from day one has been to simplify 'electric fuel' for every driver to help accelerate EV adoption," said Matt Teske, Chargeway's Founder and CEO. "Now with one tap on the Chargeway station map drivers can easily see what we in the industry know the public must learn: Can I connect my car here? How long will charging take? How many chargers are available? How much will my charge session cost? With our latest update to Chargeway users can now see 'electric fuel pricing' for thousands of stations at a glance."
I had a chance to connect with Matt ahead of Electrify Industry Day to talk about Chargeway's latest feature, and how the transparency of at-a-glance pricing can help demystify public charging. You can watch that interview, above (disclaimer: Matt's been a dear friend of mine and the EV industry as-a-whole for years).

Dumb Tesla news: “affordable” new Model Y costs $2,000 more than before
Oct 08, 2025
On today's incredibly frustrating episode of Quick Charge, Tesla is making it easier than ever to make fun of them by rolling out a new, "affordable" Model Y that costs $2,000 more than the "expensive" one did last week, thanks to the cancellation of the $7,500 tax credit that Elon Musk (the guy who is so good at business that he's allegedly worth $1 trillion) spent $200 million campaigning for.
We've also got the new, single-motor Volvo EX30 at a price that undercuts the cheap Tesla, but includes a full length glass roof that isn't inexplicably covered in upholstery to punish poor people. All this and more – enjoy!

The cheapest Tesla ever is right around the corner – is it enough to hold back GM?
Oct 07, 2025
On today's budget-conscious episode of Quick Charge, we're building up to the reveal of a new, more affordable Tesla Model Y tomorrow that will almost definitely not be a cheap pile of misaligned plastic body parts with inconsistent panel gaps that's utterly incapable of turning the tide on Tesla's global decline.
Plus, we've got news that Tesla is in hot water with California over its alleged mishandling of its insurance business, revisit the lies told about Cybertrucks drag racing Teslas, and look at the incredible 110% increase in EV sales over at GM that's driving Cadillac's renaissance.

All this and more on today's stylin', profilin', limousine-riding, jet flying, kiss-stealing, wheelin' n' dealin' episode of Quick Charge!

Tesla market share drops, Mercedes, BMW, and VW drop all-new EVs
Sep 08, 2025
On today's episode of Quick Charge, the Germans are rolling out a raft of great-looking new EVs with great range, fast charging, and competitive price tags. Meanwhile, Tesla's US market share has sunk to near record lows. As punishment, Elon's getting a trillion-dollar raise.
Mercedes and BMW each have a fresh take on the electric crossover with more than 400 miles of range and VW has a new affordable EV on tap, too. Plus, I talk you through the ins and outs of some of my favorite toys: the 10x10 Siesta Dock XL from Retrospec and the all-electric, go-anywhere John Deere TE 4x2 Gator UTV.

That Silverado EV that went 1,059 miles? These guys predicted it!
Aug 14, 2025
Chevy set a new EV range record going nearly 1,060 miles on a single charge in an optimized, but unmodified Chevy Silverado EV Work Truck that no one saw coming. No one, that is, except Chargeway founder Matt Teske. His EV route-planning map predicted the Silverado's record-setting run with better than 99% accuracy – and he's here to talk about it on today's electric episode of Quick Charge!

Plenty of Tesla alternatives and a new Ford Pro team to help pay for them
May 28, 2025
For years, Tesla has been the go-to EV recommendation for “normals” looking for a painless, low-effort experience from their first electric cars, but Elon Musk's political antics are causing people to shop elsewhere. On today's episode of Quick Charge, we'll discuss some options ... and how you might be able to pay for them!
Speaking of Tesla alternatives, the Ford F-150 Lightning is the electric truck sales king once again, while the E-Transit van is now selling for the same (or less) than the gas version and Ford Pro launches a new incentive consulting service to help you pay for them.

State of the solar industry as GOP eliminates homeowner’s tax credits
May 19, 2025
On today's sunny side up episode of Quick Charge, we take a look at the latest from the world of solar power, and discuss Congressional Republicans' plans to limit your energy independence by eliminating a critical tax credit for homeowners nearly ten years early. (!)
We've also got a quick review of a massive solar farm powering 200,000 homes in Indiana and the biggest solar project East of the Mississippi – both part of a record 98% of all new power generation and grid capacity introduced in 2025 coming from wind and solar. Those are jobs, those are lower utility rates, those are energy independence ... so why are Congressional Republicans working to make that more expensive?

Commercial financing for EVs is way different than you think | Quick Charge
Apr 22, 2025
No matter how badly a fleet wants to electrify their operations and take advantage of reduced fuel costs and TCO, the fact remains that there are substantial up-front obstacles to commercial EV adoption ... or are there? We've got fleet financing expert Guy O'Brien here to help walk us through it on today's fiscally responsible episode of Quick Charge!
This conversation was motivated by the recent uncertainty surrounding EVs and EV infrastructure at the Federal level, and how that turmoil is leading some to believe they should wait to electrify. The truth? There's never been a better time to make the switch!

Groundbreaking heavy equipment EVs (ha!) steals the show at bauma
Apr 16, 2025
It only happens every three years, but it's spectacular! I'm speaking of course, about bauma – one of the largest trade shows of any kind where heavy equipment manufacturers serving construction, forestry, mining, and more bring out their latest and greatest new job site innovations, and we've got a whole bunch of them here, on this special bauma edition of Quick Charge!
With more than two million square feet indoors and twice that outdoors, bauma hosts more than 600,000 guests from 200 countries to see 3,600 exhibitors' hardware (and, increasingly, software). We're only going to cover a sliver, but it's a really cool sliver, you guys – enjoy!

Tesla (TSLA) is having a terrible month, and it’s only April 10th!
Apr 10, 2025
On today's troubling episode of Quick Charge, we explore all the troubles befalling Tesla (and TSLA stock) in the month April – with top executives fleeing the ship, demand plummeting, sales slipping, government incentives at home and abroad under threat, and a raft of receipts brought on by an OpenAI lawsuit hitting the brand, it's already a bad month for Elon ... and there's still 20 more days to go!
None of this even touches on the $43 million "backlogged" rebate scandal Tesla's facing in Canada that's being blamed for people's negative attitudes about the brand (ha!) or the fact that neither the long-promised Roadster 2.0 or the Tesla Semi will see production anytime this year, either.
The word you're looking for when you think of Tesla these days is, "cooked."

Quick Charge | hydrogen hype falls flat amid very public failures
Apr 03, 2025
On today's hyped up hydrogen episode of Quick Charge, we look at some of the fuel's recent failures and billion dollar bungles as the fuel cell crowd continues to lose the credibility race against a rapidly evolving battery electric market.
We're taking a look at some of the recent hydrogen failures of 2025 – including nine-figure product cancellations in the US and Korea, a series of simultaneous bus failures in Poland, and European executives, experts, and economists calling for EU governments to ditch hydrogen and focus on the deployment of a more widespread electric trucking infrastructure.

Quick Charge | the terrifying Trump tariffs are finally upon us!
Apr 02, 2025
On today's tariff-tastic episode of Quick Charge, we've got tariffs! Big ones, small ones, crazy ones, and fake ones – but whether or not you agree with the Trump tariffs coming into effect tomorrow, one thing is absolutely certain: they are going to change the price you pay for your next car ... and that price won't be going down!
Everyone's got questions about what these tariffs are going to mean for their next car buying experience, but this is a bigger question, since nearly every industry in the US uses cars and trucks to move their people and products – and when their costs go up, so do yours.

Elon’s missing billions, Tesla terrorism, bots rig surveys, and a Nissan battery deal
Mar 20, 2025
Is Elon Musk using the missing $1.4B to fund anti-Tesla protests as part of a massive false flag operation that will give him control of both the police and the courts? There's absolutely ZERO evidence to support that idea (plus: I just made it up), but it's 2025 and that means anything goes on today's bats**t episode of Quick Charge!
If there's one thing narcissists love it's playing victim, and the guy who asked everyone at Trump's inauguration if they's seen Kyle and spent the last decade stacking billions by failing to deliver on a mission to mars, an all-electric roadster, an underground super-speedway, and a self-driving car seems to think it's someone else's fault that people don't like him. We talk through the state of that debacle along with news from two credible car companies, and I predict Volvo will have the first mainstream L3 car in America – enjoy!

Cartoonish Tesla crashes, Toyota battery deals, and new Chinese hotness
Mar 18, 2025
ACME stock soars on today's cartoonishly silly episode of Quick Charge, we watch Tesla Autopilot crash into a wall with a painting on it, make the Elon stans look silly when they point out shady behavior from their fearless leader, and toss out the notion that some franchise dealers might help the troubled EV brand make more sales in red states.
We also cover Toyota as it moves to position itself for global battery dominance by suppling batteries to more than 400,000 electrified Honda vehicles per year, plus an upgraded Xpeng G6 electric SUV that makes everything on this side of the Pacific look positively plebeian. All this and more, enjoy!

Bloggers and journalists might be in trouble if they keep writing about Tesla's shortcomings – especially in China, where the company has allegedly been using its pull with the government to put pressure on journalists to keep their spin on the company positive.
