    Julien Baker is a Tennessee based singer/songwriter with a knack for finding the shaky ground between heart-wrenching and cathartic. Her solo debut album, Sprained Ankle, was one of the most widely acclaimed works of 2015. In this episode she talks about uncertainty, church hopping, anxiety, and identity.

    Kenji Kuramitsu Writes Prayers (Encore Episode) - Episode 46 Apr 24, 2018

    This is an encore of Episode 18 with Kenji Kuramitsu. Kenji is a writer and Master of Divinity student living in Chicago, IL. He is a queer fifth-generation Japanese American, and serves on the board of the Reformation Project and the Japanese American Citizens League.

    Kenji believes that our worship and our prayers and our way of living are all intimately intertwined: what we do in our prayer affects our beliefs, which in turn affects our very way of being in the world. Praying shapes believing shapes living as faithful Christians in a world torn apart by social ills.

    His new book, “A Booklet of Uncommon Prayer” explores this idea as a collection of collects for the Black Lives Matter movement and beyond. It is available from Evangelicals for Social Action: evangelicalsforsocialaction.org/booklet-uncommon-prayer/

    Jarell Wilson is a Methodist - Episode 45 Apr 17, 2018

    Austen Hartke Loves His Body - Episode 43 Apr 03, 2018

    Austen Hartke is the author of Transforming: The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians, and the creator of the YouTube series Transgender and Christian. Today, he sits down with Matthias to talk about his new book, bodies, yoga, and spiritual practices that help us get into our bodies.

    Austen is a graduate of Luther Seminary’s Master of Arts program in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible Studies, and is the winner of the 2014 John Milton Prize in Old Testament Writing from the same institution. As a transgender person of faith, Austen’s greatest passion is helping other trans, nonbinary, and gender-diverse people see themselves in scripture.
