Vikings Wanderlust with Chris Tomasson Jul 26, 2016

Show notes

I got Chris Tomasson (@ChrisTomasson) of the Pioneer Press to sit still for a conversation about his extensive world travels and the upcoming season of Minnesota Fightin' Viking football. We chatted about his memories of the late-Denny Green (Chris was a student at Northwestern when Denny became their head coach), what Phil Loadholt's retirement means for the embattled Vikings offensive line, how he met Adrian's dad, why he thinks Mortiz Boehringer has a legit shot of making the 53-man roster, the favorite story he's ever written, and "How's Teddy look?" All that and other "You actually crossed into North Korea?" chatter on this edition of the Purple FTW! Podcast! Remembering Denny Green Jul 22, 2016

Show notes

Former Vikings head coach Denny Green passed away this week at the young age of 67. Denny coached the Vikes from 1992 to 2001, was the 2nd winningest coach in franchise history (behind only Bud Grant), and was a pioneer in the African-American head coaching world. Both in the NFL and in college football. We take time to look back and remember the life of Coach Green and the legacy he leaves behind. Also in lieu of flowers, Denny's family requests donations to the Boys and Girls Club of San Diego. Scenes From A Mike Zimmer Fan HQ #MoreThanWords Autograph Signing Jul 22, 2016

Show notes

Head coach Mike Zimmer met with a herd of Vikings fans Thursday night at the Fan HQ Eden Prairie. Coach signed autographs and took photos as part of the #MoreThanWords campaign benefiting the Mike Zimmer Foundation. Happy to say that this event helped smash MTW's original $10,000 fundraising goal and we're currently over $12k. Still plenty of time to donate before the August 9th deadline. Let's run up the score on this mother! In the podcast I recap the event and playback the chats I had with Coach Zimmer, his daughter and MZ Foundation Director Corri Zimmer, Fan HQ's Shaun Hagglund, and a few Purple People Fans that made the trek -- including Vikings luminary 100% Cheese Free (sans outfit). Photos and video below. All that and other "It's Herbie Hancock" chatter on this edition of the Purple FTW! Podcast! Redoing the Vikings 2011 Draft (Rebroadcast) Jul 05, 2016

Show notes

[Editor's Note: Taking the week off to head down to Podcast Movement! But I wanted to leave you guys with some content to get you through this desert of football news with one of our most downloaded episodes ever. Please enjoy and I'll catch you next week. -Andy] Hindsight is 20/20. That's why we jumped in our DeLorean and went back to save the Vikings from themselves in 2011. There was a run on quarterbacks early in the first round and de facto GM Rick Spielman panicked and overdrafted Christian Ponder at #12. He did hit on Kyle Rudolph in the 2nd and Brandon Fusco in the 6th, but I think we can do a touch better with hindsight and our time machine. Come along with Purple FTW! as we redo the Vikings 2011 Draft! Other 1.21 Gigawatts Talking Points Include: • The Rules of Time Travel • Remembering the 2010 Vikings (For some reason) • 2011 Refresher: Frazier, Musgrave, Pagac... LET'S GO! • The Original 2011 Draft Picks 1 (12) – Christian Ponder – QB – Florida State 2 (43) – Kyle Rudolph – TE – Notre Dame 3rd Round Pick went to New England in the Moss Trade (They Took Mallett) #74 4 (106) – Christian Ballard – DE/DT - Iowa 5 (139) – Brandon Burton – CB - Utah 6 (168) – DeMarcus Love – OT – Arkansas 6 (170) – Mistral Raymond – S – USF 6 (172) – Brandon Fusco – C – Slippery Rock 6 (200) – Ross Homan – LB – Ohio State 7 (215) – D'Aundre Reed – DE – Arizona 7 (236) – Stephen Burton – WR – West Texas A&M • Who I picked instead (Spicy one inthe 5th round) • The real-vs-Andy 2011 Vikings Depth Chart • The Andy 2015 Vikings Depth Chart (The Secondary is STACKED) All that and other "Joe Webb signs a big time free agent deal so we can still draft Teddy!" chatter on this edition of the Purple FTW!
