Show notes

On this exclusive episode of Have a Seat, Chris Hansen is joined by Diana, the American Airlines passenger that exposed Wheel of Fortune announcer Jim Thornton for engaging in a chatroom intended for discussions surrounding crimes against children and CSAM (child sexually abusive material) while on his laptop aboard a cross-country flight. Diana, who has never come forward publicly until now, takes Hansen through her “undercover” operation at 35,000 feet, the photos and videos she covertly obtained and what they said and showed, and how her instincts should be a message to all that ‘if you see something, say something’!

“I’m a teacher, not a predator!" Oct 12, 2026

Show notes

Second-grade teacher. Children's book author. A polished bio built on a climb out of poverty in Jamaica. And on June 2, 2026, Ashay Shakes was on a hookup app, telling a "15-year-old boy" he was 29 and asking him to get in an Uber. In this episode of Predators I've Caught, Chris Hansen returns to a six-day sting in Marion County, Florida, where 58 men surfaced. Shakes was told the boy's age twice. He sent a picture of himself in his underwear, gave his address, and pressed the "boy" to come right away. When he walked outside to meet the Uber, detectives were waiting. In the interrogation room, Shakes says it was a setup and insists, "I'm not a predator." Chris answers with the chat logs. Shakes pleaded guilty and got four years in the Florida prison system.

Bad Grandpa: Caught with Beer, a Condom, and a Pill Oct 05, 2026

Show notes

He's 72, with a bad heart, a wife of 30 years, and a granddaughter older than the girl he's driving to meet. Charles "Bad Grandpa Chuck" Schmidt even did the math himself, telling the "14-year-old" in the chat he was 58 years older. Then he kept typing. In this episode of Predators I've Caught, Chris revisits one of his first stings with the Harford County Sheriff's Office in Maryland. Chuck stopped for beer, took a pill on the way, and brought condoms. When he walked through the door, he went straight in for the kiss. Then Chris walked in. Chuck claims he "wasn't going to," but his own words say otherwise. When the arrest aired, his wife called it a setup and threatened to sue. Chris has a response, plus Chuck's sentence and what it means for a 73-year-old registered sex offender.

"Just a Mason": The Hunter Easterling Sting Sep 28, 2026

Show notes

He could have been anyone in a Walmart aisle. A 27-year-old Louisiana mason who laid brick floors for a living. But in September 2025, Hunter Easterling drove ten minutes to a house where he believed a 15-year-old girl was home alone. He knew her age. He knew the risks. He knew the registry was waiting. He came anyway, and he took his shoes off at the door. Then Chris told him to have a seat. What follows is a familiar routine of fading memory, shifting ages, and blame aimed at a child who never existed. Asked what should happen to a man who does what he came to do, Easterling, father of a seven-year-old, says he'd shoot him. He has since pleaded guilty and will serve two years in Louisiana state prison, followed by the registry he feared. Also this week: a listener question about Kik and Omegle, and news of his Simon & Schuster thriller deal.
