    Show notes

If you have a goal of making a BIG impact (and if you listen to this podcast I'm guessing you do) then you're not going to be able to do it alone. But how do you know when you're ready to outsource things or hire some help?

I am IN this exact season right now so today I'm breaking down a few of the ways I've changed my mindset around outsourcing and hiring, and how I knew I was ready for that next step in building a team.

In this episode we talk about:

    • The difference between outsourcing and hiring
    • How to calculate what tasks you could be outsourcing (and how much you should pay for them)
    • Why it's important to hire for where you're GOING, not where you are currently

You don't have to choose between making a living and making a difference, and my guest today is living proof.

Jess Ekstrom is the founder and CEO of Headbands of Hope, a company she started as a junior in college in 2012. For every headband sold, a headband is given to a child with cancer. Jess is also a professional speaker and the founder of Mic Drop Workshop, an online course with the mission of empowering more women to share their message as a speaker (which we talk more about)

This was SUCH a fun conversation all about the inevitable ups and downs of entrepreneurship, the power of optimism to make the world around you a better place, and her new book Chasing The Bright Side which is available NOW!

In this episode we talk about:

    • What inspired Jess to start her company Headbands of Hope while she was in college
    • A big hiccup she had in the early stages of her business and how she overcame it
    • Why maintaining a spirit of optimism is an asset in business (and in life)

058: Healing from traumatic brain injury and learning to ask for help with Dr. Mallory Fox Oct 31, 2019
    Show notes

Life as we know it can change in an instant - and that is exactly what our guest today experienced just over a year ago when a car accident changed the course of her career and life.

Dr Mallory Fox is the owner of Foxy FIT and co-owner of Baptiste Power Yoga Phoenix. She loves to serve her community through mindful movement and conscious connection. She is also a fellow Lululemon ambassador which is how we met, so it's no surprise that she lists her addictions as "Lululemon and coffee"

Our intention is that today's conversation offers hope to anyone else who may be healing from trauma, and that it would also serve as a reminder that, even if the attitude of "I'll do it myself" has worked for you in the past (because for a lot of us, it has)...you can do so much more if you allow others to contribute to you, and remember that you are NOT meant to do life (or business) alone.

In this episode we talk about:

    • Mallory's journey recovering from a traumatic brain injury
    • How the experience helped Mallory learn to ask for (and accept) help
    • How allowing others to contribute actually fosters deeper connection with people

057: Massive results require massive commitment Oct 29, 2019
    Show notes

I wish I could tell you that I've always been naturally willing to play BIG and risk failure, that I've coached myself through my own limiting beliefs without any outside help, and that I've always had the grit to keep going in pursuit of a goal when everything in me wants to quit. I haven't.

Maybe you're able to create success without having any outside support, but if I'm being totally transparent I've never made massive leaps without first creating MASSIVE accountability for myself. And today we are talking ALL about how you can do the same thing, and how to know if you're ready to make a bigger FINANCIAL investment in your next level of growth

In this episode you will learn:

    • Why creating the right kind of pressure can help push you beyond your current limits
    • How to know if you're ready to invest in yourself at a higher level
    • What to do in the meantime if you're not quite ready yet!

Do you ever feel stuck or totally uninspired when you go to create content? I feel you girl...I mean, I wrote a whole book and I swear I get the worst writer's block when it comes to writing an Instagram caption…

Well today we're talking about how you can create the HABIT of feeling more inspired, by starting a daily writing practice. This has seriously changed my LIFE over the past few months and it has led to not only the inspiration behind podcast episodes and social media posts, but even some new ideas for businesses or passion projects that I want to start.

If you've been feeling stuck, or like you need a jolt of fresh inspiration, this episode is for you!

In this episode you will learn:

    • How to create the HABIT of being inspired
    • Some guidelines for creating a daily writing practice
    • Some great writing prompts to get you started (listed below!)

    My favorite writing prompts:

    • What is the most interesting conversation you've had in the past week?
    • What question have you been asked multiple times in the past month, or what theme do you notice showing up with the people in your life?
    • What instagram post or story were you surprised that people seemed to really resonate with? What other details can you share on that topic?
    • What have you felt challenged by lately, that others may be able to relate to?
    • What is inspiring to you right now?
    • What is something you LOVE teaching others?
    • Think back to a great podcast episode you heard recently and summarize the top 2-3 things you took away from it, in your own words
    • When in doubt, do a Unicorn Brainstorming session!! Wouldn't it be cool IF...

054: The truth about "mom guilt" and how to overcome it Shira Nelson Oct 17, 2019
    Show notes

There are so many powerhouse MOMS in our community, and if there is one theme I've heard almost every single mom I know talk about struggling with, it's MOM GUILT.

Today we're tackling the topic of guilt and why (whether you are a mom or not) the expectations we put on ourselves can cripple our ability to make the impact we know we're meant to make.

My guest is Shira Nelson, the founder of MomBeyondBaby where she helps moms become their best and live a life of fulfillment. Shira has coached thousands of moms across the globe through fitness and business and nothing gets her more excited than mamas finding their true purpose after babies.

In this episode we talk about:

    • The different challenges that come with different stages of parenthood (and how they parallel the entrepreneurship journey!)
    • What "mom guilt" really stems from and whether or not it ever goes away
    • How investing time and care into yourself isn't just for you, it's for the little ones who are watching you

053: Someone's already doing what I want to do (and doing it better) Oct 15, 2019
    Show notes

One of the biggest roadblocks that I think keeps many of us from stepping into our purpose is the fear that someone else is already doing what we want to do, and they are doing it better than we could (or so we think).

I have definitely been stopped by that fear before--and if you have too, today I'm sharing what has helped me break free from this limiting belief, and finally start putting my ideas into action.

In this episode you will learn:

    • One of the biggest limiting beliefs or fears that stops people from pursuing their big ideas
    • How to stop comparing your purpose to what others are doing
    • The reason why we need all different voices and people sharing similar messages

052: Go from just making money to actually keeping it with Amber Dugger Oct 10, 2019
    Show notes

If you have ever thought to yourself "I know I'm making money...but where did it all GO??" - today's interview is for you. My guest is Amber Dugger, a cash flow expert for online entrepreneurs and the founder of Profit for Keeps, a system developed to help entrepreneurs end the stress and anxiety around numbers.

Her holistic system combines personal finance and business cash flow strategies using the philosophy from one of my favorite business books, Profit First. She has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs implement this system and has helped thousands more calculate revenue goals that actually make sense!

Her mission is to help you go from just making money – to actually keeping it...which I'm sure you are just as interested in as I am!

We originally recorded an extended version of the interview for our membership community which you will hear me talk about - that community is NOT currently for membership...it's being redesigned into something NEW that you'll be hearing more about in the coming months so stay tuned for that!!

In this episode you will learn:

    • How to use the philosophy of Profit First to create a system for your business cash flow
    • How to implement the Profit First philosophy for a startup or online entrepreneur
    • Why having a plan for your cash flow is important no matter what stage of business you're in (even if you haven't actually made money yet)
