Lesson 48, or Podcast 48 is absolutely full of quirky (for english speakers) expressions. Our characters are at the beach discussing how easy it is to get hornswoggled by an unknown auto-mechanic. I guess we were in the mood for podcasting as it is a little longer than usual.
M - Então Patrícia, afinal de contas aquilo do carro ainda não está resolvido.
P - Oh pá!! Arranjámos ali um 31! Já lá vão 3 semanas e nada.
M - Bolas!
P - Pois. Se fosse só a demora era uma coisa, mas cada vez que o Tiago fala com o homem, parece que ele encontra lá mais um defeito, que é como quem diz, mais uns euros para o bolso dele.
M - Espera aí, vocês não foram ao Paulo ali na rua da Ribeira?
P - Não, estava de férias. E como tínhamos recebido um panfleto com um desconto para o mecânico na avenida, fomos lá.

Our lesson this week brings us back to colloquial, vernacular European Portuguese. This is your typical conversation with a somewhat dodgy auto-mechanic. A little more free-style dialog than usual because neither I or Marlon took part in it.
T - Então Sr. Ernesto, já sabe o que é que se passa com o carro?
E - Sabe, eu já troquei ali algumas peças. Mas aquilo ainda não está bom. Ainda tenho que ver o que é que se passa ali.
T - Então mas essas peças são muito caras?
E - Sabe, uma das peças que já mudei que estava mesmo avariada é o medidor da massa de ar. E sabe, as peças para o seu carro não são as mais baratas, porque para o seu carro tem que ser tudo de origem.
T - Pois, quer dizer que ainda não é hoje que levo o carro.
E - Nem pouco mais ou menos. Sabe, eu ainda tenho que o ligar à maquina, a ver mesmo o que é que se passa.
T - Ó amigo, veja lá que eu preciso do carro para a semana que vem.
E - Deixe estar, eu amanhã já lhe ligo e digo alguma coisa.

I'm happy to say that my husband, Marlon, and I, have decided to put together a free audio course for those interested in starting off with the Portuguese language. It will be free and on a weekly basis. It will be available from iTunes as well.
This will not be a Portuguese audio course like the usually boring audio courses you've come across. I will aim to make it fun and interesting, full of tidbits and interesting idiosyncrasies of the Portuguese language.
Every week, Marlon will also include a tip to help you learn a language more efficiently.
This is lesson 1 and we talk about what you might say when frequenting a typical Portuguese coffee shop. We also mention a fascinating study on how exercise can boost your memory.
