Artist Spotlight - Digital Martyrs Oct 16, 2016
    Show notes

In this episode of PoPolitickin, we poltick with producer Off Balance of the Digital Martyrs crew.
    Bio-
The sound of Northern California’s hip-hop trio, the Digital Martyrs, is both newfangled and distinguishable, which had always left a breathless impression on fans at attendance. Their objective in the industry mirrors the intent of hip-hop acts of yesteryear, to provoke and to stimulate. From the antagonistic but affirmative undertones in the lyrics, to the soulful and gritty instrumentals behind them, the Digital Martyrs have stayed successfully relevant despite there obvious movement away from pop-ish, shiny-swag-filled, bubble gum raps. Their efforts are to diverse the hip-hop brand in their sound fusions with old American funk and soul, Brazilian Jazz, and, at times, reggae, and utilizing the rhyme schemes which is only over-shadowed by its abrupt, political nuance. It is the hip-hop that is “all honest,” and “against the grain.” – KUMSFM Geek Thug Radio’s DJ and Live Manikins’ MC, Justin Rubio aka Mr. Lingo. With the anticipation of their new self-entitled album, the soundscape they have created will sure to deliver consistent work to their growing following.
The Digital Martyrs distinct sound stems from a lifetime of musical influence, owning residual characteristics of artists they look to for inspiration, ranging from Immortal Technique to Brother Ali, Mos Def, to Sage Francis.

Artist Spotlight - Ryan Davis Aug 29, 2016
    Show notes

Welcome to another edition of Po Politickin. In this episode, we politick with comedian Ryan Davis.
    Artist Bio...
Ryan is a comedian out of Concord, NC whose versatile style of comedy has allowed him open for mainstream acts such as Jay Pharoah of SNL, urban acts like Michael Blackson of Next Friday, and eccentric acts like Tom Green of The Tom Green Show. By winning many comedy competitions, starting a successful monthly comedy showcase, and gaining the respect of comedians that have been doing it 20+ years; Ryan proved that the amount of stand-up comedy success that he saw in such a short period of time was not a fluke. Due to his success as a viral internet star, Ryan no longer is an opening act. Though he is known more for his online videos, Ryan isn't like the other internet comedians. He is a duel threat that is the first of his kind.

    Artist Spotlight - Rahccy Jul 21, 2016
    Show notes

Welcome to another edition of Po Politickin. In this episode, we politick with Los Angeles rapper Rahccy.
    Bio..
Rooted in the Los Angeles' community of Watts, Rahccy is that flower determined to bloom between the cracks of concrete. Her childhood home stands on the very corner where the historical and brutal riots tore apart the city in 1965. Alchemizing an inimitable brand of hip hop, neo soul and gospel and delivering gold, one can hear the pathos of street survival in every lingering beat. With "Miss Jill On 108th" Rahccy's old soul sentiment beams bright as she pays homage to the many older, faceless women in the community who are encountered only briefly but leave a lasting spell. Rahccy holds the torch for those who can't.
Singing in church since the age of eight, Rahccy's talent garnered her initial recognition in high school when she teamed up with fellow student Rob "Galli" Salazar and won their high school competition "Bringin' Down the House" performing at the legendary House Of Blues in Los Angeles. The duo's bond continued and they were featured in a short documentary called "South Of Stars" by KPCC, which still garners views online. After surviving a near fatal car crash in 2015, her life shifted dramatically as she healed and returned back to the studio with a vengeance.
Cites her producer Dwayne "Muffla" Simon, "With a string of multi-platinum hits from my work with LL Cool J to name just a few, I thought my music days were over. The music scene has changed so much and no one was lighting a fire for me. Then I heard Rahccy and I knew I had to come out of retirement. She has that rare quality that artist possess when they are bigger than themselves. Rahccy has that 'it' quality that legends are made of. As a producer, I'm more than excited because I know she is going to blaze hip hop with her passion."

Artist Spotlight - Alpha Faktion Jul 13, 2016
    Show notes

Welcome to another edition of Po Politickin. In this episode, we politick with underground rap trio Alpha Faktion.
    Bio...
Underground rap trio Alpha Faktion have been hustling and building anticipation the past year for their next project, Creative Control. And today, all that hard work is clearly paying off with a banger of a lead single, “Creative Control,” produced by living rap legend Nottz.
For the uninitiated, the proudly independent group is made up of rapper/producer Azwun, rapper Kraze, and DJ Enyoutee, who had previous success as solo acts. They opted to join forces, however, and have been killing it together ever since. That much is evident throughout “Creative Control,” a neck-breaking anthem for any artist taking their career into their own hands.
Azwun and Kraze make their indie stance well-known throughout their verses, delivering bars like “I broke away from these chains/ man, these industry slaves/ They tried to manage, couldn’t handle the weight/ The wait’s over, motherf*cker/ Keep yo’ hands out the plate”; and “You look confused and I’m not surprised by the ignorance/ Force-feedin’ by hypocrites, team leaders, and simpletons.”
“Creative Control” is a mission statement and one hell of a way to kick off the rollout for their upcoming album of the same name. In addition to Nottz, the project boasts collaborators such as Marley Marl, Marco Polo, Planet Asia, DJ Spinna, and more.
