Emily Zuzik, A Brave Rocker Releasing Her Latest "Torch & Trouble" Mar 13, 2020
    Show notes

Emily Zuzik's career in the performing arts is a study in diversification.

Her career journey in the music industry has enabled her to develop a unique personality and signature style in her productions and live performances. At varying times, she can call herself a singer, songwriter, guitarist, actress, and model - and she has had success at each of these related-but-distinct pursuits. All of which are thanks to her unparalleled and unique brand of performing.

Emily has released several records of her own music that range in style from a Cheryl Crow-Esque rootsy-rock vibe to a hip-hopping blend of Aimee Mann, Alanis Morissette, and Beck. Her vocals have been heard on NBC, WB Interactive and she has collaborated with Moby and sang with Blue Man Group.

Her soon-to-be-released album, Torch & Trouble, is a well-focused blend of earthy singer-songwriter centered Americana music, a true reflection of her uncommon and exceptional style in the music, and performance industry as a whole.

No matter the art or genre, it's Emily's unique personality and voice that brings it all together.

    Show Notes

Joining me on the show today is the melodious, mesmerizing and uniquely diverse singer/songwriter, Emily Zuzik. The LA-based artist graces our show with wonderful tunes and thoughts from her current album "Torch and Trouble".

Stay tuned on the show and find out more about Emily's collaborations and personal connections behind the production of "Torch and Trouble".

Although she currently resides and works from LA, Emily has had the pleasure of traveling and living in plenty of other states throughout the country. We discuss her thoughts and opinions from her experience living in different places and what she feels about Nashville as a growing city and hotspot for the upcoming performing arts.

Emily describes to us why she feels that producing older songs results in more passion and energy output in the studio.

She enjoys working with notable professions while producing her songs and never interferes or in any way gives suggestions to the team when they're all working on her masterpieces during production. She trusts that every professional has gained their reputation from their previous work and therefore deserve to be 100% reliable on their output.

Strap up your seatbelts, because you're in for a fabulous ride from Emily's world of the diverse and unique blend of music production, songwriting, and band performance. Quotes What I have found over the years is that lots of people can write songwriter folk and upbeat daddies, but not everybody does it with a hard-rocking component. So I really consider myself lucky to be able to wear both of these hats. There's something really fun about writing a song and then going into the studio the next day and cutting it. And there's energy in that too. But if you want a more polished thing, then it's helpful to really have old songs from the past down. Just as I did with "Torch and Trouble". There's always uncertainty in music, and right now, there's the coronavirus and the upcoming American presidential election. There's just stuff in the world that's frustrating and can induce anxiety and can make you go dark, and I am trying to put forward light and love and hope. I know there's a lot of other people who feel that way too. And so hopefully we'll get a groundswell and some things will be turning around into a more positive direction in 2020. Luna Keller, Singing And Songwriting On The Canary Islands, Simply Paradise! Mar 06, 2020
    Show notes

Living the dream! Luna Keller is from a musical family, thus music has always been a part of her from as long as she can remember.

His dad who is a musician and producer has been a pivotal part of her love and growth in the music profession. Music has always brought Luna and her family so much joy, and beautiful life moments, that she feels so lucky and blessed to be a talented singer and songwriter. The sky's the limit for Lunar and as she performs on small stages and travels the world, she knows for a fact that she's chosen her way, she loves it in ways she can't describe, and she is truly happy. Show Notes Today on the show, I'm joined for the first time, all the way from the Canary Islands, by the talented and captivating Luna Keller. Only 18 years old, Luna has already written over 400 songs. Stay tuned as we dig deep into the songwriting process, as Luna shares with us her thoughts, feelings, and emotions when she's writing songs, and why the whole process is very dear and special to her. With so much experience, talent and passion at such a tender age, Luna Keller's unique blend of songwriting, teamwork production and instrument playing is set to dazzle any music fan out of their seats! Luna started writing songs at a very young age. Her father who is a music producer has certainly played a huge role in paving her path towards her music career. Blessed with a unique insight into songwriting, Luna gives us a sneak peek of what it's like when she's writing songs and the euphoric feelings that tags along with it. Having lived in Ireland for a short time, Luna's singing and love of folk music was a result of the society and culture that she adopted whilst in Ireland. She has a strong belief and liking for teamwork and working together in the effort to produce creative and unique artistry when singing and songwriting. You're most definitely in for a real thrill in this week's episode dear listeners! With top hits from the album, including "Alice is in love with a Mad hatter" and "I don't know where I'm going". Quotes If you love without fear and do what you want and really get to be who you want to be, then that can not be beaten by anything. I'm a fan of teamwork. I think there are always new perspectives that other people can bring to your art that you would've never thought of. As a songwriter, you kind of get used to certain things that you do a certain way, and when you write with someone else, you get a new perspective on songwriting and it makes you grow as a songwriter and you create something that you wouldn't have created on your own. The takeaway is really just that you don't have to have it all figured out and it's okay to be on your way. And to work through things since you're not always going to be perfect. Songwriting for me is a very personal and emotional thing. My songs come from a very deep place and a very personal place, so depending on where I am emotional, I will be capable of digging in there and writing from that feeling. You learn from yourself and you learn from the progress. I think it's really important to not beat yourself up or get obsessive about this one song that you couldn't write or that you wanted to write. But instead to actually say, "okay, I'm learning, the next one will be better". And then when you write a song that's really good, you just, as you say, you get this euphoria like, yes, I want to share this with the world. This is amazing. And it's a process. It's got its ups and downs. In songwriting, you're always searching for something you haven't done before. Searching for a new perspective, a new way to tell a story, and when you find it, it's a wonderful gift. I'm so grateful that I get to summarize and to put my feelings into songs. I think there is a big difference between an instrument that has been programmed and an instrument that has been played. Songs played by human beings, I think I have a much more organic feel, and that's my kind of music. Marc Jordan, Celebrates "Both Sides" Of Music, Smooth Jazz Can't Get Any Smoother! Feb 28, 2020
    Show notes

Having had his songs been on 35 Million CDs and recorded 16 of his own Albums, our guest today, Marc Jordan is a true music legend and inspiration to all aspiring artists in the singing and songwriting niche.

Married to Fellow musician and actress Amy Sky, Jordan's Music Career shot for the sky when he signed for Warner Music in LA and began writing songs for and alongside some of the greats, including Diana Ross, Chicago, Kenny Loggins, Brette Milder, and Rod Stewart.

Jordan has already been the recipient of several music awards including the ASCAP, JUNO and Smooth awards. Despite having already accomplished so much in the industry, the drive and passion that Jordan has for music and songwriting, according to him, is deeper and more profound than it's ever been. He's just released his latest album "Both Sides" in April of 2019, and alongside his wife Amy, the two are currently working on releasing another album set for 2020.

    Show Notes

I had the pleasure of hosting Marc Jordan on the dHarmic Evolution today, stay tuned in the show as we discuss the life and career of Jordan, alongside some of his top hits including, the #1 smash world wide "Rhythm of My Heart" sung by Rod Stewart.

As he ventured into the music industry, Jordan noticed that the careers of so many people were catching fire with his songs. Warner Chappell noticed and approached and signed Jordan to a publishing deal after noticing how talented he was with his writing, and from then on Jordan would just write as if he would be the one to perform the songs. Later on, the songs would be pitched to other artists who would add their tune and style.

Jordan gives us a look into his personal life and career life. Get to find out the joys and challenges of working in the music industry from Jordan's memories and experiences. We explore issues related to his touring, songwriting, performing and changes that have been ushered in by technology in the music industry.

    Quotes

It's hard to do cover songs because people are always comparing them to the original. So you've got to make it your own without destroying people's memories (04:57)

So I just wrote as if I was going to record everything myself. That was the only way I could make the songs true. And the people that recorded the songs brought themselves to the show. (16:40)

When I realized that the concerts weren't about me, that they were about the people sitting in the audience, is when I stopped began to enjoy concerts more, because I got so much in return. (40:22)

Music is so important. It's our first language and it's the language of our hearts and it's the language of a revolution as well. It's important politically and it's important emotionally. And we must never lose sight of that. And we must never compromise our artists because to do that there would be no art in the world. And if there was no art in this world, especially in music, then what is this world? (01:01:37)

Alan Stein, Meeting Kobe Bryant at 3:30 AM For Fundamentals, Mastering The Basics Create's Champions Feb 07, 2020
    Show notes

"Why do you think I'm the best player in the world? Because I never get bored with the basics" –Kobe Bryant-

Today on the dHarmic Evolution Podcast we'll be diving into the life-changing and phenomenal strategies of Alan Stein Jr.

Alan is a dynamic and engaging storyteller, keynote speaker and author who has spent 15 years as a performance coach working with the top and highest performing basketball players – Including Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Kobe Bryant - Alan specializes in teaching his audience the art of utilizing similar practices in business and life that athletes use to perform at a world-class level.

Alan's methods and tactics have proven to be a success in improving individual and organizational leadership, performance and accountability. For this, Alan has gained a positive reputation of inspiring and empowering everyone that he works with into immediate action, improving their mindset, habits, and productivity.

Alan is passionate about delivering true change in the spheres of leadership development, mental grit, and team unity, all these while still proving that the foundation and basis behind success in the court has a similar effect when applied in any industry.

Alan's career and key decisive moment

While still playing basketball at Elon University, Alan gravitated towards performance training, strength, and conditioning. This paved the path to his 2-decade career as a basketball performance coach, where he had the chance of working with some of the top players and coaches of the sport.

About a decade ago, while he was still working at the NBA's Player Association top 100 Camp, Alan was emotionally moved and inspired by former NBA Player and renowned speaker Walter Bond's speech to the young high school NBA Prospects. And, ever since that day, a seed was planted in Alan; the ability to positively influence the lives of others, especially through the spoken word. He knew then, that inspiration through speaking was something he would definitely explore.

    Quotes

[7:00] In order to get good at your specific craft, you should step outside it and draw inspiration and learn from other crafts. As a professional speaker, two of the things that I draw the most inspiration from, are hip hop and stand-up comedy. Although both are very different from corporate speaking, they both rely on the spoken words to paint a picture, shift your emotions, think, act and do differently.

[12:16] "Why do you think I'm the best player in the world? Because I never get bored with the basics" – Kobe Bryant.

[12:54] "Just because something is basic, it doesn't mean it's easy. If it was easy, then everyone would be doing it"

[13:21] "The very first step to being a high performer, whether it's in music, basketball or business, it's to admit that the basics work. And having the humility to acknowledge that implementing the basics every single day, is definitely not easy"

[16:33] "In order for your business to thrive or for you to become good at your craft, you have to work relentlessly on becoming your best self. And in order to do that, you have to make sure your bucket is always full (with daily practices and routines). To achieve true mastery is when you're able to teach others these skills"

[18:11] "Being open and constantly searching for new ways to do things, will keep you sharp and invigorated"

David Burkus, Teaching Us How To Leverage What We Aready Have! Jan 31, 2020
    Show notes

The number one source for new jobs and opportunities come from weak and dormant ties. Because these ties are not strangers to us and have diverse information and new potential introductions. – David Burkus Hello everyone and welcome back to the dHarmic Evolution show! Taking a ride on the show with us today is David Burkus. A skilled researcher and inspiring communicator, David is a former associate professor of leadership and innovation at Oral Roberts University. He has delivered keynote speeches and workshops for Fortune 500 companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Stryker, and governmental and military leaders at the US Naval Academy and Naval Postgraduate School. His TED talk has been viewed over two million times. An established writer, David has a number of books - and best sellers- under his belt, including; Friend of a Friend, Under New Management and The Myths of Creativity David's Background While still in high school, David had his mind fixated on pursuing a career in writing. Writing, being such a divergent industry, left David entangled in a quagmire of what kind of writing niche to take on. Driven by passion, David set for his undergraduate studies in English - Creative writing. Having lunged into different genres of writing while in College, David found himself connected and relating to Social Science non-fiction. He felt drawn to the works of Malcom Gladwell in particular. He loved just how Gladwell's kind would use their talented storytelling and writing skills to address different issues and make an impact on the world. This inspired David to head for graduate studies in Organizational Psychology. In January 2010, while taking his graduate studies, David, fuelled by his ambition towards social science non-fiction writing and his beliefs in networking, started a Podcast Show. Although he was faced by numerous Podcasting hurdles at the time, David remained focused and was able to leverage his show into getting interviews with top guests in his field of study (all of whom responded due to the unfamiliar, yet interesting Podcast media form). David snowballed from the connections and networks he built while podcasting and was able to transition and build his career in the writing and publishing niche without much difficulty.

[8:00] I've never studied chronotypes, but I do know that reactive work, should be done in the afternoons. [11:22] The book is a souvenir of the idea, and what you sell is an implementation of the idea. [11:27] Marketing is just trying to get as many people as you can to go from not knowing you exist, to knowing you exist, and once they know you exist, trying to be continuously helpful. [22:50] The number one source for new jobs and opportunities, come from weak and dormant ties. Because these ties are not strangers to us and have diverse information and new potential introductions. [25:00] The people that you're connected to on social media should either be people you know in the 'Real-world' or people that you intend to move into un in-person relationship.

Savannah Morris, One Of The 8 Nashville Natives, A Beautiful Energetic Sound Jan 24, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to the dHarmic Evolution Podcast, and joining us from the music city of Nashville, Tennessee is a local born, raised and made, Savannah Morris, with her own distinctive sound, and an energy that is hard to duplicate, take a listen to where she has been, and more importantly, where she is heading!

Born in a musical family, Savannah feels the path towards her career in music was made the moment she took her first breath. Growing up around a supportive and inspirational environment of parents who were not just musically talented but local celebrities, went a long way in weaving the fate of Savannah and her brother as music proteges.

As one of the 8 Nashville Natives, Savannah feels blessed both career-wise and socially by networking and linking with a lot of the Native locals in the music and entertainment industry, all of whom have supported and helped her evolve and get better with her music.

Recalling her daily 'SHEPF' routine, which was Savannah and her brother's daily after-school drill of having snacks, doing homework, exercise, and later on playing the piano and fiddle. Savannah admits that it all annoyed her, but nostalgically reminiscent, this routine was a key factor leading to her disciplined and passionate drive towards success in her music career.

Growing up in a musical family has its pros. Savannah is a testament to this as she narrates the invaluable opportunities and chances she got from performing alongside her parents, gaining not just the much-needed confidence which was a "must-have" for her lifelong career in music, but she also got to meet great individuals and celebrities like Morgan Freeman.

    Quotes from Savannah

You're blessed to be an artist, you're blessed to be doing music as a career, and although a lot of artists fail to see this as they're blinded by their goals of becoming big and famous. It's truly a blessing to do something you love, as you never work a day in your life – Savannah Morris

Road Rage, how it can entrap you, and how to get rid of it! Jan 17, 2020
    Show notes

It's undoubtedly growing and becoming a norm in our road and social culture. Today's show is going to be a bit personal, as I share my 3 personal experiences, takeaways and lessons learned from road rage. My first engagement with road rage goes way back when I was only 7. This was back in the 60s and even though the term road rage hadn't been coined yet, there were still a number of incidences happening. I remember traveling with my mom to see her mother (my grandmother) and as we turned down the street that my grandmother lived on, down the end of the crowded street, we saw a woman trying to back out of a driveway. As she did this, another car further down the street was speeding towards the woman. I could clearly tell that there was going to be a big calamity about to unfold before our eyes. My mom, however, in an attempt to stop the whole incident from happening decided to speed up our car, tearing down the street, and eventually positioning us between the woman trying to back out of the driveway and the incoming speeding car, in doing so, my mom blocked the incoming car. The man from the speeding car immediately sprung out of his vehicle and mad with rage, he began a series of yelling and screaming. That marked my first experience with road rage, and from it, I learned two important lessons, righteousness and bravery. Anyone in my mom's position could have opted to mind their own business and let fate take its course. But not my mom though a petite 110-pound lady. She decided to put not just herself, but her 7-year-old son in harm's way for the sake of this total stranger's safety.

My second experience with road rage happened in 1980. I was working for an electrical contractor based in Essex County, New Jersey. It was Christmas Eve and my partner Paul and I was working on a certain contract in Newark, New Jersey (Newark was a pretty unsafe place to be back in the day). It was noon, and Paul and I had gone to grab some food as we get ready to call it a day. On our return to the truck, we found a small car that had just double-parked us. The car window was opened, so I jumped in, released the handbrake and we pushed the car across the street and out of the way. Out truck was now free. As we returned to our truck, the owner of the car we just re-parked showed up and started tearing into us with all manner of yelling and screaming. Paul tried cooling him down, assuring him that his car was fine. But Paul's methods didn't seem to work, as the guy looked like he was ready to take the confrontation to the next level and go all physical on us. Paul noticing what was about to happen, disappeared to the back of our track and showed up moments later with a conduit bender. All this time, I'm standing by the side. Mouth zipped and silent as a grave. They keep tearing into each other a bit more. I waited for a small break and decided to dive in, ''All right, let's go home.'' And I don't know if it was the Holy Spirit working through me, but that's all it took and the argument stopped. What I learned from this incident is that you shouldn't get into confrontations with strangers. Because first of all, you don't know what this person is capable of as far as doing something stupid and do you really want to bring that person into your life through a relationship filled lawyers, council, litigation or jail? My third personal experience involving road rage only happened about 3 – 4 weeks ago as I was driving west on Route 40, just out of Nashville. There was something on my mind that was really disturbing me. I was in the middle lane and had been driving for about 10 minutes when someone who was driving so aggressively cut right in front of me. This made me get so livid that I immediately switched to the fast lane, and to my surprise, I heard the sound of a screaming horn from my left side. I had just cut someone off! Just like that, I could have wrecked someone else's car, day and life, all because I got tripped up. I learned that road rage is mostly a factor of being unconsciously tripped up into a situation that you're fully aware of. It's all about self-awareness. We all have our personal issues that trouble our hearts and minds, and funny enough they always seem to pop up even in the most unexpected times. When this happens, we should cast away such thoughts and remain in the present moment, focus on nothing but the driving. And remember to keep the golden rule, if you ever find yourself in a road rage situation, defuse it immediately, drive away. Wave politely, and don't get into any sort of encounter with a complete stranger. Timestamps: [1:20] Love our show? Remember to subscribe and share it with your friends and family.
