A Space Poddity 9.5: ...And the Spiders From Mars Sep 25, 2019

Show notes

"Now I've been told, that you've been bold, with Eric , Marc and Steve!"

Dear listeners, we left you on a cliffhanger last week. Steven barely broke Marc out of the mental hospital, Marc barely got his mind back, the team discussed the year of 1972 and did a track by track analysis of Bowie's "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust".

Well they are back to continue the conversation with:

- All of the Bowie era bonus tracks and B-Sides

- The film: "Velvet Goldmine"

- A sampling of notable covers of the Ziggy songs

- Mott the Hoople

- and the nice little bow that we tie this gift up with: a track by track dive into Lou Reed's "Transformer" and discuss the important relationship between the two artists.

-And then we roll the dice to see what crazy album we fall in to next!

A Space Poddity 9: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust...(Part 1) Sep 18, 2019

Show notes

This week on Pod Like a Hole: A Space Poddity, the band is back together and diving deep into the all-time classic The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. In addition to giving the album the full track by track treatment, we discuss current events of 2019 and past events of 1972.

Eric gets to dig his mandibles into an album with an actual storyline, Steve thinks he might know what he's talking about despite popular opinion saying otherwise, and Marc is just happy to be eating solid foods again. This one covers quite a bit of ground, so strap in for a ride to Saul Starman's office.

But wait, there's more. Come back next week for the thrilling conclusion where we finish our discussion of Bowie's Ziggy era, fight some Decepticons with Lou Reed's Transformer, and we Mott the Hoople, if you get my drift.

A Space Poddity 8 : Tin Machine Sep 04, 2019

Show notes

You know. When we started this podcast, your cohosts Marc, Eric and Steve, set out with a simple purpose. To connect to people through their love of music via a jovial conversation, laying out the spoils of our various takes on the deep dive in discographies. They've been holding hands and traversing through the history of music in this season 2: David Bowie. All was going well. Best.Laid.Plans.

Cut to Shady Pines Mental Institue:

A nurse walks into a room. It is shadowed by the afternoon sun hitting the blinds just so. Three patients in the room don't notice. Their poor minds are gone. A serious trauma twisted their neurons into their emotions and blocked any further chance at experiencing the world in the same way. Marc is curled on the floor, hitting his head onto a wood block, repeatedly. Eric crying as he drops his spoonful of jello again, not getting a single bite into his mouth. Steven, humming madness as he tries to connect a lego to a duplo. The doctor approaches the nurse, sighs and shrugs, "What's all this then?" To which the nurse replied, "Tin Machine, doc. Those sweet boys never recovered from Tin Machine. It broke their minds."

Enjoy the maddening adventure in to the colossal assault on our dignity. Tin Machine.
