#18 Caroline Paul on Shame, Inadequacy and Living a Life of Adventure Nov 16, 2020
    Show notes

Caroline Paul, is a writer who previously had a 13 and a half year career as a firefighter. She is the author of several books including her memoir “Fighting Fire” and “You Are Mighty: A Guide to Changing the World” which came out just as teens around the country were taking a stand against gun violence in 2018.
In this episode, Caroline, who saw herself as a scared little kid, shares how adventure became a key part of her soul. She talks to me about how growing up with her identical twin, Alexandra Paul, an accomplished writer and activist, truly helped shape her character. Caroline is an incredible spirit who opens up to me about feeling lost in her second act as a writer.

In this episode, Ashlee and I talk about how growing up in an all girls school helped shape who she was — including why it never crossed her mind to play small. #15 Alexa von Tobel on the Emotional Test of Success Oct 19, 2020
    Show notes

Alexa von Tobel, this week's guest, has a quintessential highlight reel. She is the founder and former CEO of LearnVest and the New York Times- Bestselling Author of "Financially Fearless." She launched Learnvest in 2008, in the middle of the financial crisis, and sold the company in 2015 for $375 million!
In this episode, Alexa shares how her journey at Learnvest — from start up to exit — was a physical, mental, and emotional test. Alexa and I talk about the process of elimination as a way to figure out what we want to do in life. In this episode, Alexa also shares why Learnvest’s acquisition was the hardest week of her life and the personal work she’s doing today to transform and take herself to the next level.

#14 Sarah Bessey on the Scarcity Mindset and Having an Expectant Heart Oct 12, 2020
    Show notes

Sarah Bessey is the author of the best-selling and critically-acclaimed books “Jesus Feminist” and “Out of Sorts: Making Peace with an Evolving Faith.” She’s a sought-after speaker at conferences, churches, and universities around the world.
I love this conversation because Sarah is so brutally honest about her journey as a writer. She literally lived to tell the horrors of rejection from book agents and peers — essentially telling her that she wasn’t going to get a book deal! In this episode, we talk about all of that, plus what it means to have expectations versus being expectant. Bonus: I also get a little personal about my faith and my own struggles about labels.

#12 Rebecca Minkoff on Seizing Opportunities and the Not-So-Glossy Moments of Building a Brand Sep 28, 2020
    Show notes

Do you feel like you envisioned an incredible year, and all of a sudden, something hits you out of nowhere like a ton of bricks? Hello 2020! Well, that feeling of a gut punch right when stuff is getting good is part of what you’ll hear in my conversation with this week’s guest, designer Rebecca Minkoff. Her namesake global fashion brand is best known for its accessible luxury handbags accessories and apparel. Rebecca is also behind the Female Founder Collective, an organization dedicated to empowering female-owned and led companies.
In this episode, Rebecca gives us a glimpse of her 15-year journey as a creative leader and entrepreneur, including the not so glossy moments and challenges she had to overcome. Rebecca shares why she doesn’t believe in luck and why we should look out and act on those, in her own words “opportunity tentacles.”

#11 Khristi Adams on the Wisdom of Young Black Women and Acknowledging Shortcomings Sep 21, 2020
    Show notes

Khristi Lauren Adams had a realization that young women of color, particularly Black girls, always had to share the space and that their voices are very rarely the center of stories we read and hear about. This week, you'll hear my conversation with Khristi, author of the “Parable of The Brown Girl” — recommended as one of the books by Black authors to read by top media outlets like Vogue, Essence and PopSugar. Khristi is a speaker, an ordained Minister and is the co-director of Diversity and Inclusion at the Hill School in Philadelphia.
In this episode, I talked to Khristi about how wanting to do something unconventional led her to become a pastor and the obligation and responsibility she felt towards elevating the stories of young women of color. Plus, how a Jennifer Aniston movie influenced her to pick her major in college!

#10 Bob Goff on Not Waiting For Permission and the Importance of Being Teachable Sep 14, 2020
    Show notes

Bob Goff is the New York Times bestselling author of “Love Does” and just one of the wonderful humans I’ve come to know. He is a recovering lawyer who founded a nonprofit also named Love Does, a human rights organization operating in countries including Uganda, Nepal, Somalia, and Iraq. Bob is also a speaker and the host of the popular podcast, “Dream Big”.
In this episode, Bob, with much humor and positivity drops a ton of knowledge and truth. We talk about the importance of being teachable, getting real with ambiguity, not beating yourself up when you feel like you’re not the smartest person in the room, and why we shouldn’t link our purpose with people’s validation and approval.

#9 Jaime Schmidt on Imposter’s Syndrome and Supporting Underserved Creatives Sep 08, 2020
    Show notes

In 2010, Jaime Schmidt founded personal care company Schmidt’s Naturals in Portland, Oregon — right in her very own kitchen. She scaled her company and 7 years later, sold it to legacy brand Unilever.
But, if you’ve been listening to our podcast, you know we won't be focusing on that highlight reel. In this episode, Jaime talks to me about the things that didn’t go well in her journey, including a lot of self doubt that she battled before making a 9-figure exit! She’ll also share with us her life post-Schmidt’s — which now involves supporting underrepresented founders through her investment fund, Color.
