JD Beach - Racing is Life Aug 27, 2025

Pipe Dreams Podcast is back for Episode 31 with JD Beach taking us through a compelling ride—from being gifted a motorcycle before he was born by his racer father, to battling for championships across road and dirt tracks. Born in Snoqualmie, Washington and now based in Philpot, Kentucky, JD has carved out a rare level of success—winning the 2008 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, claiming the AMA Pro Supersport East title in 2010 with a Moto2 wildcard in 2011 and going on to become a MotoAmerica Supersport Champion in 2015 and 2018.

From skipping traditional school to launching into racing at a young age, JD shares how racing was his only priority as a kid. After his parents divorced, he spent ages 10–13 mostly living on his own, eventually moving in with the Gillim family in Owensboro, Kentucky, which gave him the stability he needed to thrive.

He reflects on his personal life such as his relationship with his mother and memories of playing Xbox with Casey Stoner overseas. We also explore JD’s ongoing journey—his current resurgence aboard the Real Steal Honda CBR1000RR-R in Stock 1000 and his drive to complete the elusive Grand Slam—victories across the full breadth of American motorcycle disciplines, just one dirt-mile race away.

At just 17, he’s already a two-time MotoAmerica national champion, and he’s doing it the more traditional way—earning factory support and building a path toward the world stage with Factory Yamaha behind him.

Blake opens up about growing up in Lynchburg, Virginia, starting on two wheels at just 3 years old, and how the people around him helped shape a racer ready to succeed in a class full of champions. He shares why he shifted to home schooling to better focus on his racing career, while still making time for the normal teenage moments—proms, Friday nights with friends, and staying grounded outside the paddock.

We talk about his breakout Twins Cup championship in 2022, defending the title in 2023, and what it means to be carrying the weight of America’s hopes on the international stage. Blake also reflects on wishing he had taken things more seriously earlier on, recognizing that many of his European rivals have been training like GP professionals since childhood.

Peter Hickman - Fearless Mar 19, 2025

Growing up around motorcycles with a father who was a racer himself, Hickman’s journey into professional racing seemed almost inevitable. He made his British Superbike Championship debut in 2004 and quickly became known for his speed, skill, and adaptability across various disciplines of racing.

Hickman cemented his name in road racing history with his record-breaking performances at the Isle of Man TT, where he holds the fastest lap ever recorded at an average speed of 136.358 mph. With multiple TT wins, standout performances at the North West 200 and Macau Grand Prix, and success in the British Superbike Championship, he has proven himself as one of the most versatile and fearless riders on the grid. Beyond racing, Hickman has taken on new challenges, including owning his own team and putting together a competitive program with Triumph ahead of the Daytona 200.

In this conversation, Hickman shares his thoughts on what it takes to push the limits on some of the most dangerous tracks in the world, the mindset required for road racing, and the challenges of balancing BSB with real-road competition. He also discusses the growth of his PHR Performance shop back home, where he helps develop and tune high-performance motorcycles in addition to the foundation of his own 8-Ten Racing team in partnership with fellow BSB / Road-Racer, Davey Todd.
