PHLY Flyers Podcast | Why wouldn’t Kevin Hayes score against the Flyers in his return to Philly? | PHLY Sports Mar 05, 2024
    Show notes

The Philadelphia Flyers played a mostly-solid 1st period and were up 1-0 after 20 minutes on a Scott Laughton goal set up by Ryan Poehling. As has been the case lately, they gave it back in the 2nd, with Kevin Hayes scoring for the first time in 20 games to tie things up.

With Jordan Binnington channeling his first start from 2019, stopping 29/30 Flyers shots by the midway point of the 3rd, the Blues steal the game in a shootout.

Plus, with the report from 32 Thoughts today that the Flyers priorities may be making the playoffs and not furthering the rebuild, Bill, JP & Charlie discuss what could happen at Friday’s Trade Deadline.

PHLY Flyers Podcast | Tyson Foerster’s big night leads Flyers to win over Senators | PHLY Sports Mar 03, 2024
    Show notes

Tyson Foerster broke a 1-1 tie late in the second period with his 15th goal of the season, and followed it up with a goal off a penalty shot 45 seconds later to give the Flyers a 3-1 lead as the middle frame came to a close.

Philadelphia outshot Ottawa 19-4 in the first period, but came up short on 3 power play opportunities leaving the door opened for the Senators to get back in it, which they did with an early Vladimir Tarasenko goal in the second. The Flyers finally closed out the Senators, who won the first 2 games of the season series by a total score of 10-5.

Bill, JP, and Charlie break down the action, including some rumors about Flyers prospects, and where exactly Foerster stands in this year’s rookie scoring race, as well as where his numbers lineup historically in Philly.

PHLY Flyers Podcast | Flyers lose 6th straight Metropolitan Division game to Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals Mar 02, 2024
    Show notes

Despite jumping out to a 2-0 first period lead and looking poised to cruise to a victory, the next 40 minutes were among some of the worst the Flyers have played all year.

Defensive breakdowns, penalties, turnovers, a complete inability to send or receive a pass all killed Philly on Friday night in the nation’s capital. Alex Ovechkin opened up the Caps’ scoring to cut the Flyers lead to 2-1, and it was all Washington from there, as they scored 5 straight to go up 5-2 on Philadelphia.

Along the way Bobby Brink and Olle Lycksell got benched, Sean Couturier saw himself moved back into the top-9, and John Tortorella was not the least bit happy pretty much whenever the camera cut to him. Bill, JP, and Charlie break down the action, including reactions to Danny Briere speaking to the media after the first period.

PHLY Flyers Podcast | John Tortorella’s Flyers remain in playoffs despite injuries and slumps Feb 28, 2024
    Show notes

Cam Atkinson has finally been scratched after 11 games without a point. Sean Couturier is down on the 4th line. Joel Farabee and Owen Tippett aren’t as productive as they were a month ago.

And still, with less than 2 weeks until the trade deadline, the Flyers are holding tight to the Metro division’s 3rd seed.

Charlie & Bill break down all the recent goings on, and try to get to the bottom of the Wells Fargo Center power outage.

PHLY Flyers Podcast | Bobby Brink and the Flyers turn out the lights on Tampa Feb 28, 2024
    Show notes

In one of the weirdest games of the season, which saw a temporary power outage in the first, and Lightning coach Jon Cooper pull his goaltender midway through the third period, Philadelphia picked up 2 points against a team that has been a thorn in their side for multiple seasons.

Bobby Brink is back from an 11-game stint in the AHL, and he got the scoring going with a goal early in the first, and Tyson Foerster, Cam York and Travis Sanheim all extended scoring streaks.

Bill, JP, and Charlie break down the action, including exactly what goes on when the lights are off in the press box.

PHLY Flyers Podcast | Mailbag Monday: The Flyers can’t possibly play Cal Petersen again, RIGHT?! Feb 26, 2024
    Show notes

It’s Monday, you know what that means… IT’S MAIL TIME!

After dropping Sunday’s game to Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins 7-6, a lot of today’s mailbag is focused on the goalie position both this year and beyond? Can John Tortorella ever put Petersen back in the net in Philadelphia? Will Alexei Kolosov be the answer behind Sam Ersson? Should Danny Briere trade for a goalie?

It’s a netminder-focused episode, with questions for Bill & Kelly also covering Cam Atkinson, Morgan Frost, Nic Deslauriers, Captain Couturier and much more!

PHLY Flyers Podcast | Can Scott Laughton’s Flyers complete 3rd period comeback in Pittsburgh? Feb 26, 2024
    Show notes

In a wacky back-and-forth game, the Flyers had a shot to rebound after Saturday’s loss to the Rangers but unfortunately, Cal Petersen was in net for the orange and black, making the task THAT MUCH more difficult. Already missing Travis Konecny, Philly lost Jamie Drysdale to an apparent left shoulder injury, and Tyson Foerster also left after taking a shot to the knee-area, but came back shortly after. Charlie & Bill break down the action, as well as how the injuries could impact the Flyers’ Trade Deadline strategy.

PHLY Flyers Postgame: Can the Flyers end Igor Shesterkin and the New York Rangers’ hot streak? Feb 24, 2024
    Show notes

We got a 3 PM start time in South Philly for Flyers vs. Rangers on Saturday afternoon, and neither team looked like they needed a wakeup call, especially after an epic heavyweight tilt between Nic Deslauriers and rookie Matt Rempe a few minutes into the game.

The Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period, as Sam Ersson and Igor Shesterkin were locked in a goalie battle during this Metropolitan Division matchup.

Can the Flyers stage a 3rd period comeback and end the Rangers 9-game win streak?

Bill & Charlie break down the action, including the lineup without Travis Konecny.

PHLY Flyers Podcast | Can the Philadelphia Flyers get back on track against Connor Bedard? Feb 22, 2024
    Show notes

After losing in overtime in Toronto and dropping a big game in regulation at MetLife to the Devils, Philadelphia needs to beat a tanking Blackhawks team, despite the return of rookie phenom Connor Bedard to Chicago’s lineup last week. With only a 5-point lead on NJ in the standings, and about 2 weeks until the trade deadline, the Flyers need to reestablish themselves if they want to hold on to their playoff spot. Bill, JP & Charlie break down the action, as well as the latest news and rumors swirling the team.
