A Love Letter to Possibility Jan 19, 2022
    Show notes

Fan Mail: Tell Wendy how you're saying yes to yourself!

This week, on the Love Letters, Life, and Other Conversations podcast, Jane and Wendy talk about possibility and perspective.
Inspired by Rosamund & Benjamin Zander’s book,“The Art of Possibility,” they discuss:
    - How the stories we tell ourselves about what’s going on in our lives can affect our mindset and experiences. They explore the idea of changing the narrative and empowering a new story that infuses meaning and quality into your life.
    - Turning challenges into opportunities by questioning our circumstances and viewing the situation through an alternative lens instead of simply following the status quo.
    - The freedom of seeing the world as a place full of possibility and abundance, instead of a place of scarcity.

    Wendy’s Takeaways:

    • Being able to articulate that although we haven't arrived at a place where everything is "perfect," we can still acknowledge the good that's a part of our day-to-day life.
    • The joy of the idea that anything is possible while recognizing that possibility is an art, which means it requires practice.
    • The little girl in the book’s default outlook was “perfect.” It is what you make it.

    Jane’s Takeaways:

    • The concept that whatever the problem, whatever the story, whatever the framework, it's all been invented already. And we as individuals have everything we need at our disposal to reinvent it.
    • Taking an alternative approach to problem-solving and reframing with a picket fence rather than a circle.
    • Conversation cements both new ideas and new habits.

    What is a love letter?

It is a letter, a text, a poem, a direct message, a drawing, a voice message, a watercolor, a recipe, a cup of tea, a smile, a home-baked meal delivered. It's anything that connects us and makes us feel all those messy emotions, that without life would be pretty beige.

A Word as a Love Letter to the Year Ahead Jan 12, 2022
    Show notes

Fan Mail: Tell Wendy how you're saying yes to yourself!

This week on the Love Letters, Life, and Other Conversations Podcast Jane and Wendy discuss how choosing a word to guide your year is like a love letter to the months ahead.

Wendy and Jane share the words that they have chosen for 2022. They talk about how setting a word for the year gives an intention to attach to decisions and actions as you move through the year. They also talk about how these words can have a lasting impact even after the year has passed.

    Wendy’s Takeaway

    • The how is not our responsibility. It is our responsibility to be open to what the universe is putting on our hearts.
    • Give yourself permission to be the best version of yourself. Everyone wins when you are the best version of yourself.

    Jane’s Takeaway

    • Grace and kindness from my lips is a phrase I’m going to strive for.

A Jack Gilbert Poem as a Love Letter Jan 05, 2022
    Show notes

Fan Mail: Tell Wendy how you're saying yes to yourself!

This week on the Love Letters, Life, and Other Conversations Podcast Jane and Wendy discuss the poem A Brief for the Defense by American Poet Jack Gilbert as a love letter.

Wendy and Jane talk about the act of allowing for delight and richness in life, and that our joy does not take the joy away from someone else.

    They talk about;

    • How one person's experience of joy may not at all be the same as another.
    • That if we focus on injustice and are allowed only to be happy when no one is suffering, we will have a world of only suffering.
    • That injustice is not to be disregarded, but that gratitude and joy are to be given their place as well, and how in turn this actually gives us the opportunity to do something about the injustices we see.
    • Not to let other people steal your joy

    Wendy’s Takeaway

    • ‘We must risk delight.'

    Jane’s Takeaway

    • ‘We can do without pleasure.’ but, there must be a choice because some of us can’t. She will take away to really look into the difference between pleasure and delight.

Love Letters to Ourselves Dec 29, 2021
    Show notes

Fan Mail: Tell Wendy how you're saying yes to yourself!

This week on the Love Letters, Life, and Other Conversations Podcast Jane and Wendy share how we can give a Love Letters to Ourselves.

Wendy and Jane are no longer waiting for someone to give them permission to live their lives as they want them to be. They have each written a love letter to themselves in the form of a motto to live by. Jane’s love letter to herself is “I’m never going back to the beige, I’m only available for extraordinary” and Wendy’s love letter to herself is “I’m only available for what delights me!’

    They talk about;

    • How what we are seeking lies in giving ourselves permission and how that act shows others it is possible for them also.
    • What extraordinary experiences are and how to recognize them.
    • That being happy is not selfish, it is a gift to yourself and others.

    Wendy’s Takeaways

    • Jane's commitment to the extraordinary and how she does not keep it to herself but includes her circle of friends in that commitment.
    • Being open to another perspective
    • How using your intuition and trusting yourself is all that you need

    Jane’s Takeaways

    • Bravery - be brave and tell someone exactly what you are thinking because that bravery leads to extraordinary conversations.
    • Raw vulnerability lets us connect in a way that something extraordinary good can happen.
    • That the extraordinary can be the most ordinary thing…like digging in the garden.

A Song as a Love Letter to Chateau Bosgouet Dec 22, 2021
    Show notes

Fan Mail: Tell Wendy how you're saying yes to yourself!

This week on the Love Letters, Life, and Other Conversations Podcast Jane and Wendy share and talk about A Song as a Love Letter to Chateau Bosgouet.

Jane shares a story of how Charlotte of Viv et Margot, a now dear friend, persistently encouraged her to join in the practice of doing Instagram Lives and a resulting contest that arose from that experience. The contest was to submit a love letter to win a Chateau Life Residency at Chateau Bosgouet. Contestants could submit anything that they considered a love letter, be it a poem, a letter, a watercolor, or a song. The winning love letter was a beautiful song written by Pearley Jones.

    They talk about;

    • How Charlotte’s persistence opened Jane up to something she would not have dreamed of doing, and that it led to so many people being able to connect with her, and she with them.
    • The beauty of being able to dream big without having experienced the thing of your dreams
    • The importance of not letting your ‘dreams become a maybe’

    Wendy’s Takeaways

    • How when you do something that scares you great things follow; there are great things on the other side of scary.
    • Even though the deadline was looming and so many others had already submitted their entries, Pearley Jones took her chance and sent in her submission.

    Jane’s Takeaways

    • Nuance; understanding what lies between the lines.
    • Intuition; following your own and when someone just ‘gets’ it.
    • Vulnerability; that being open to the scary leads to a braver you.

    Jeff's Birthday Love Letter Dec 15, 2021
    Show notes

Fan Mail: Tell Wendy how you're saying yes to yourself!

This week on Love Letters, Life, and Other Conversations Podcast Jane and Wendy share and talk about a Birthday love letter to Wendy’s dear friend Jeff.

While an incredible cook, Wendy’s dear friend Jeff had proclaimed he was not able to make cookies. This led to Wendy making cookies for him each year on his birthday. This particular Birthday love letter came the year that Jeff retired and moved to France - too far to send his birthday cookies. Wendy’s solution to the distance between them was to send the dry ingredients to France for Jeff to bake his favorite cookies himself. Enclosed in the package was a handwritten recipe from her as a love letter, plus a little bonus love letter from her daughter Amelia; Jeff’s god-daughter.

    They talk about;

    • How recipes are a love letter evoking memories of moments and traditions shared.
    • The treasure that a gift is when there is genuine thought and care for the recipient’s experience of it.
    • How the food surrounding birthdays is such an integral part of the celebration, often because the birthday celebrant chooses a favorite dish or menu and that is part of the gift of their day.

    Wendy’s Takeaways

    • A birthday or any gift does not need to be expensive but it needs to be thoughtful
    • Gifts are not finite. They are not just a gift to the recipient, but one for the giver and then when the gift is treasured, it's a gift that gives again and again.

    Jane’s Takeaways

    • The recipe shows pure friendship and love.
    • How the love of a child can change someone’s heart.
    • Thoughtfulness creates a moment that lasts

Anna's Love Letter to her Teacher Susie Dec 08, 2021
    Show notes

Fan Mail: Tell Wendy how you're saying yes to yourself!

Join Jane and Wendy as they have an authentic unedited conversation about a Love Letter from Anna to her teacher Susie.

Anna’s love letter to Susie illustrates the power a teacher has to make a lasting impact. ‘She was more than a teacher to all of us’

For forty years Susie encouraged her students to embrace their life experiences, planting the seeds in their hearts to reach for their dreams.

Later in life, Anna had the opportunity to share with Susie that ‘This life I’m living was inspired by you’, and then Anna was able to return the favor to her teacher and help Susie live out one of her own dreams.

    They talk about;

    • How the duality of an invitation offered and accepted is a gift to both parties.
    • How shared stories make for an incredible connection.
    • The way that a deep connection can happen when one person holds up a mirror for another reflecting their own spirit.

    Wendy’s Takeaways

    • The concept of the student becoming the teacher as she followed her intuition.
    • Trusting yourself to have a courageous conversation and see where it goes.

    Jane’s Takeaways

    • The idea that a person can ‘be a love letter’, constantly being rewritten.
    • How Anna expressed that being asked to share a love letter gave Anna permission to explore.
    • That a conversation about a love letter can allow someone to heal from something that they haven’t quite acknowledged.
