The Heard it on the Sidelines podcast with Shotgun Spratling returns with a special guest coming off a career performance in what he describes as the best basketball atmosphere he’s ever played in.

In this episode of the Heard It on the Sidelines podcast, a part of the Peristyle Podcast family of shows, we head to the hardwood to talk about USC basketball’s big 67-64 rivalry win over UCLA Saturday night that helped the Trojans improve to 21-4 (10-4) and move into second place in the Pac-12 standings.

The star of that victory, fifth-year junior guard Drew Peterson, joins us to talk about what will be forever known in USC lore as the Drew Peterson Game. We talk with the Pac-12 Player of the Week about his career-high 27-point, 12-rebound, five-block, four-assist performance and the reaction he’s received around campus since the game. Peterson also discusses how he turned around a slump to catch fire when his team needed him the most and what it’s going to take for the Trojans to play with the same fire the rest of the season as they did against the Bruins.

Tunnel Vision host Ryan Abraham is back in studio with Shotgun Spratling and Gerard Martinez joining remotely for an emergency Tunnel Vision episode, talking about the breaking news that USC has landed the top-ranked transfer prospect in the NCAA Transfer Portal, former Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams. The guys talk about why Williams decided to reunite with USC head coach Lincoln Riley in Los Angeles and how important of an addition he will be to the roster going forward.

The reported deadline to register for classes in the spring semester passed on Friday and as of our recording time on Monday there has still been no word on whether Williams has enrolled at USC or not. Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on why he thinks Williams will (eventually) end up a Trojan and why it makes sense for him and the team for Williams to wear the Cardinal and Gold.

The latest on USC's transfers and Caleb Williams Jan 27, 2022

Peristyle Podcast hosts Keely Eure and Ryan Abraham are back in studio together for the very last time, at least the last time with Keely as a member of the USCFootball.com team. Next week Keely will be taking on her new role as a team reporter for USC football and basketball and we wish her the very best! But in the meantime we have her on the show one last time trying to make sense of all of the Caleb Williams drama that is getting crazier by the hour. The former Oklahoma quarterback has about 48 hours from the time of our recording to enroll at USC and take part in spring football, after that he would have to wait until the summer to enroll (or potentially enroll somewhere else that has a later enrollment cutoff date). Will Williams pick the Trojans or end up at another program? We shall see (and hopefully soon).

Keely and Ryan also discuss all of the roster turnover we have seen since the end of last season, with 31 players no longer on the team and 20 new additions including 11 players from the NCAA Transfer Portal. Many of the holes on the roster have been addressed, but that quarterback spot is the one that as of this recording is still in need of an answer. Plus as always they answer all of the listener questions over email, voicemail and text messages.
