LIVE EPISODE: Tragic fireball horror death smash Oct 04, 2019

Show notes

After a wobbly start where the wrong theme tune is played Adam and Adrian Hobart (standing in for Bob) play a bizarre game of Exquisite Corpse with the audience (look for the transcript on Facebook) Adrian gives us the lowdown on recording audio books – he has just been narrating Dead & Buried – which gives Adam an opening to do some shameless plugging.
**This episode was recorded live at Morecambe & Vice Crime Festival in front of a live audience. Please excuse any sound glitches.**

Cliffhanger Resolved, Morecambe & Vice and an email from Amber Rudd? Sep 20, 2019

Show notes

After briefly thinking that Amber Rudd has emailed them, Adam and Bob finish the list of true crime books they started last week. They ponder the high volume of female victims in crime fiction. And listeners are kindly invited to buy them a drink after they record the podcast live at the Morecambe & Vice Crime Writing Festival (www.morecambecrimefest.co.uk)

Sweaty boys, Barry Panasonic and a spot of Collaboration...! Sep 01, 2019

Show notes

Bob and Adam are back this week in a rather sweaty studio. All I can say is, thank god there's no smellovision on the pod. They discuss David Lagercrantz – the chap who took over Stieg Larsson's Millennium series – at least he was, until he threw the towel in. It's happy hour on the pun front with a visit from Barry Panasonic. And there's also a spot of collaboration, or was that colloboration?

Mint imperials, weather reports and Lee Child goes legit Aug 23, 2019

Show notes

After a week off, Adam and Bob struggle to stay on the topic of crime. In between talking about the weather and the merits of mint imperials, they read some listener emails and manage to address the rumour that Lee Child might be joining the Booker prize panel. Listeners of a sensitive disposition should be warned that this episode contains gratuitous sounds of tea slurping and sweet sucking.

Thrillers on stage, pubs on the South Bank and PD James’s odd anniversary Aug 09, 2019

Show notes

Looking for some vacation reading, Bob and Adam run-through a best of the year crime fiction list and an awards shortlist or two, but somehow the conversation keeps coming back to the tricky business of adapting thrillers for the stage. Adam gets technical explaining the difference between hardbacks and paperbacks, Bob’s account of his recent trip to London inevitably ends with a pub recommendation and PD James has an odd anniversary.

Geographical confusion, beach bums and book hooks Aug 02, 2019

Show notes

The boys are geographically confused today. They’re recording in… Well, they're not really sure, it could be Bedford or Milton Keynes or maybe one of a plethora of other landlocked locations. Adam is teaching the art of the book hook and self-publishing basics. Oh, and they're also pondering their next holidays and what to read on the beach.

Murderous ancestors and political boo boos Jul 26, 2019

Show notes

It's true crime week this week. And they're definitely not going to talk about political crimes… except when they do! Here's an important question, though. Why are so few women writing political thrillers? And when is Adam going to write the book about his murderous ancestor?
